bloodyminded Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) Two friends ditch school and break into an abandoned warehouse. Breaking through a door, they come across a dead girl tied to a table. Well, turns out she's a zombie. How does a filmaker do something new with the overbloated zombie premise? Why, turn her into a sex slave, of course, and the movie into a meditation on female body objectification made absolutely literal. One of the two boys is less than comfortable with the idea, and balks; not enough to try to put a stop to it, mind you, but he won't rape the deadgirl. The other boy, becoming obssessed with the joys of owning a sexslave, virtually moves in to the place. Predictably, he can't keep his mouth shut; the type who would do this is not the type given to wise discretion. Predictably, other boys are invited to partake. Predictably, and of course one would never doubt this, things go horribly awry. A distasteful premise, but a surpisingly good movie, if you don't mind unpleasant visuals, and gazing into the abyss of exisential dread. In a way, it's full of heart, especially as the more recalcitrant teenager begins to form some compassion for deadgirl. But still, profoundly cynical, especially about young guys on the verge of manhood. At it's core, it's quite nihilistic. And the ending? Never mind, but it doesn't restore your faith. Michael Hardner Posted October 15, 2010 Report Posted October 15, 2010 This sounds like something that should never have been made. I cringe to think of this thing. Post-feminist zombie flick ? Strangest film idea I've heard in awhile. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

Shwa Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Meanwhile, in other news: Horror films lead to obscenity charges Last year, Montreal horror film makeup artist Rémy Couture was picked up by police, his house and computer searched, after Interpol levelled a complaint based on a couple of short films he made that can be classified, at the very least, as grotesque.Entitled “Inner Depravity,” they attempt to show the mind of a heinous, drug-taking serial killer whose psychopathic tendencies lead him to also have sex with his dead female victims. Art to some. Graphic obscenity to the Crown Prosecutors. I guess Inner Depravity must be a little more over the top than Dead Girl... Quote

At any rate, visually, there's nothing here terribly outrageous by contemporary horror standards. The numerous torture flicks are more distressing...to me personally, anyway. But yes, the subject matter is....not pleasant. Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings

You're welcome! There are a lot of largely-unheard-of flicks around which are really good. Of course, some of these low-budget, independent movies are...just awful, awful. But then, so is "Transformers," so..... Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings
