we'll have to wait and see if the NDP suffer for it. There are some MPs in more rural ridings who may suffer the consequences of this one.

The NDP now sits at 12% in the polls, a loss of another 2 percentage points. And this even before the final gun registry vote results were known. There's no way of knowing for sure if this is gun registry politicking fallout but I'd say it is, simply due to timing. My guess is the NDP will soon poll lower than the Green Party.

And if that stays, it would send the Conservatives deep into opposition. They need both a strong NDP and Green to split the left.

AS I have said before, I think ALL parties may feel it in the voting polls. You can't say for sure that every Tory members across this country had support from their supporters including Quebec. You can't say that ALL Tories supporters stand with their members if that supporters is out job, loss their home and family and don't like the deficit that still growing. IS anyone saying that these Tories supporters are HAPPY to pay more to EI premiums starting in Jan/11? Harper got what 37% of the votes and I would think more people will be voting this time that didn't before and I don't think they will be supporting the spend and spend Tories. I like to know what their personal debt is?

Not if rural NDP voters switch to the Conservatives rather than the Liberals, which is very possible. For example, Reform/Alliance picked up many Western seats from the NDP in the 90s IIRC.

TBH, I don't even really understand why a gun registry would be such a vote-determining issue for people, on either side. One way or the other, it's just a matter of extra paperwork for people who buy guns, right?

This is probably hopelessly out-of-touch with people who actually, you know, have to use guns, which I'll freely acknowledge. I'm genuinely curious though. Is this an issue on par with, I dunno, the HST in terms of its importance? Or more than that?

With some people, it's more.

At the moment, in BC, no. But the gun registry is a festering wound out here.

You can't say all Tories, but I think it's a reasonable assumption that far more Tory supporters support scrapping the registry than the other parties. For the NDP it's a dangerous issue because they do hold a number of rural ridings, and by all accounts, those folks are pissed.

How do you think it would play in ridings held by NDP MPs such as Ashton, who did vote against the registry in the end? What if the NDP played a role in potential reforms of the registry?

From what I've seen in the past, reforms to governments programs often result in an even larger bureaucracy. I cringe at the thought.

As for the NDP, the party has cast its lot and is already paying for it in the polls. Nothing they bring forward can redeem those MPs who had previously voted against the gun registry then changed their position. Not all rural NDP MPs will lose their seats over their change of heart, but some will.

and some conservatives will lose their urban and Quebec seats for the same reason...if the registry was such a big deal the conservatives would have won a majority in the last election...it's only a big issue in small minds, the majority don't care we worry about important matters like the ECONOMY, or the financial incompetence of the government...

What kind of shape would the economy be in if your hero, Jack Layton was at the helm?

 and what pathetic shape our economy is in with dear glorious leader at the helm!...isn't this the same Harper financial genius that told us just before the recession that we would not have a deficit! that Canada would have a surplus! how was it he was the only financial genius that didn't see the recession coming?....

Thanks for repeating the useless talking points from the Toronto Star. Canada is in much better shape than many if not all G8 countries. I'm as ticked off as anyone at the amount of money spent on the summit, but I also know that it would have been a similar price tag had the Liberals been in government. Security comes with a price these days. Could you imagine what the opposition would be saying if the Conservatives cut back on security and something happened to a delegate from a foreign country?

Maybe the Conservatives need to balance the budget by doing what the Liberals did with EI.

You can criticize PM Harper all you wish, but please tell me how the great socialist, Obama, is doing any better for his country's economy?

pointing out dear glorious leader is fiscally incompetent is useless talking points, really? that reveals something about your knowledge of finance.... Canada is better shape that other G8 countries because of Canada's banking regulations which had absolutely positively nothing to do with dear glorious leader it was in place decades earlier...it also has to do with the previous minister of finance Paul Martin leaving the country in better shape than he found it after the last nightmare financial wizard Brian "kickback" Mulroney...

the best thing the conservatives can do for the countries finances is go back to their farms and leave financial matters to better educated people...

obama is a socialist?:lol: ...Obama is handed a country in finacial ruin by borderline theocratic dictatorial autocrat and you want him to turn it around in two years? dear glorious leader another theocratic dictatorial autocrat fucked up our healthy economy in two years..see a trend forming here??? Our economy is still much stronger than almost all European countries, which similar to Canada, had to weather the global recession. Canada is in much better shape.

Get the facts buddy. Lay off the Toronto Star, Heather Mallick rhetoric. I like your response to Paul Martin misusing EI funds improperly; cheap personal attack. You'd be crying if Harper did what martin did with the EI funds.

As for "kickback" Mulroney, I too was disappointed with his filthy involvement with the sponsorship scandal.

How exactly have the Conservatives done anything? Just about every economic policy over the last two years has been forced on them by the Opposition.

And the G8 summit was a joke. When even the French were laughing at how much we paid, you know something went wrong.

You can criticize PM Harper all you wish, but please tell me how the great socialist, Obama, is doing any better for his country's economy?

We're not out of the woods yet, as new (lack of) growth figures have shown.

Beyond that, what saved our hind-ends was sane banking rules which made the exposure of our own banking system to the credit crunch much smaller. And those rules have in general been part of a strategy that's been played out over decades, so there's no way in hell you can say the current Tory government is responsible, save in the minimalistic way that they didn't dismantle that regime.

It all depends on who he polled in the riding.

Heather who?...here are the facts BUDDY, I've never read or seen a copy of the Toronto Star in my entire life...

conservatives can't help themselves it's in their nature..

stupid no, uneducated and unsophisticated absolutely...hard work has nothing to do with having a brain and using it...you seem to sterotype farmers as smarter than urban dwellers, farmers not accepting democratic process of the vote against the bill is very telling...

You do nothing but repeat Toronto Star talking points on this forum...pretty much word for word.

I think I was mistaken....about the sponsorship scandal..... not Mulroney....Chretien, a Liberal, I guess it's in their nature...eh.

Many farmers have agricultural degrees, so saying they are uneducated is another useless assumption on your part. Refer back to your copy of the Star so that you know what to type next.

and where did I mention anything about urban dwellers? Why do you need to make things up? is it in your nature?

oh ya of course I forgot that little known fact...it's absolutely impossible for two or more people to have the same thoughts...

very few, and the farmers that I knew with a degree left the farm...and for those that didn't that degree in animal husbandry is just so helpful in the real world...

I can read between the lines very well, we urban elites are gifted that way... B) Edited by wyly
