Topaz Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 May put her therory on the next election and when and why Harper will be the one to call one. Not surprising since he is the ONLY one to call for the past elections that everyone said Canadians didn't want one, but voted anyway... well some of us did. May have some valued points and I have noticed that the Tory gang have been giving out money again this summer. After reading this article do you agree or not agreed with her? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/lawrence-martin/the-greens-funky-leader-sees-a-harper-election-plot/article1709159/ Quote
Smallc Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 If she said it, it's probably stupid. Quote
August1991 Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 (edited) If she said it, it's probably stupid. As any member of the NDP or CBC might say (from link above):Her party held a major convention last month – and it was like journalists were on strike. They couldn’t be found. The convention was in Toronto, right across the street from the CBC. But the alleged left-of-centre network, Ms. May pointed out Wednesday, couldn’t be bothered to send a reporter. Their journalists were not the only major media who were absent. IOW, the NDP (and the CBC) are the most vociferous opponents of May and the Greens. Come to think of it, the Bloc is mindful of her and them too. ---- May's point? Well, Lawrence Martin (Chretien's official biographer) wrote the piece so God knows what she really said, or even meant. But if I understand properly, according to May, Stephen Harper wants to use wedge issues to divide Canada and he wants to demoralize voters with negative tactics. IOW, it's OK for Liberals or Leftists to ridicule opponents... but no one can ridicule Liberals or Leftists. If anyone (ie. Stephen Harper) does, they are using wedge tactics to radicalize Canadian politics and divide Canadians. Elizabeth May is an upstanding moral Canadian who wants to unite us; Stephen Harper is an evil control-freak Bush-clone who chooses to divide us. Or something. Smallc Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 Federally, I can't stand the NDP. See the thread on the Liberals gutting healthcare to see why. Quote
August1991 Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 (edited) Federally, I can't stand the NDP. See the thread on the Liberals gutting healthcare to see why.Whatever.I am tired of CBC/Leftist/Liberal types who think controversy involves accusing Microsoft or other American corporations of wanting to steal our fresh water. As soon as the Liberals/NDP/Leftists/Green are a topic of controversy, it is a "control freak" PM who wants to create a "wedge issue" to divide/demoralize Canadians. ---- I have seen this debate tactic used too often in Quebec. If you oppose the PQ, you are not solidaire. Edited September 17, 2010 by August1991 Quote

Wait, your only comment about the NDP I found on that thread was a comment about punked's attitude, which isn't typical of all New Democrats. Quote

Sorry, I wasn't myself trying to make any comment on punked, whom I don't know well and often agree with AFAICT, or whatever his or her 'attitude' may be. Quote

It's typical of many of the partisan New Democrats that I know....of course, in fairness, it's typical of partisans of any stripe. Quote
Evening Star Posted September 17, 2010 Report Posted September 17, 2010 As for Mays' theory, it seems plausible enough, especially given the dumb shit Ignatieff has said (one reason why I remain a federal NDP voter BTW). Quote
Topaz Posted September 18, 2010 Author Report Posted September 18, 2010 Do anyone think that Harper will be the one to call for an election and use the gun registry, if fails to pass, as the tool to get more votes? Quote
Jack Weber Posted September 18, 2010 Report Posted September 18, 2010 Do anyone think that Harper will be the one to call for an election and use the gun registry, if fails to pass, as the tool to get more votes? I do think he will use it as an election issue, but I don't think it will be that effective. The people who will think it's a reason to vote for the Con's are probably voting for him anyway. Those that would not vote for the Con's,generally urban areas, are goig to be hardened against Mr.Harper for trying to do what he is doing.Unfortunately for Mr.Harper, the urban vote is what he requires for a majority, and this is'nt going to help him at all...
