Bob Inglis (R) Tea Party Casualty

Recommended Posts

Republican Bob Inglis seems to think that the Tea Party mania is more of a concern than others seem to think.

Can anyone suggest some kind of objective measure of a society's mental health vis-a-vis paranoia ?

Mother Jones Article

For me to go around saying that Barack Obama is a socialist is a violation of the Ninth Commandment. He is a liberal fellow. I'm conservative. We disagree...But I don't need to call him a socialist, and I hurt the country by doing so. The country has to come together to find a solution to these challenges or else we go over the cliff.

Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.)

Well said.

Bob Inglis is a sore loser. When you cast votes that don't represent your constituents, you're likely to lose elections. Apparently that's a big news flash for him.

That is a very telling article from a principled conservative on the folly of following the extreme right wing nutters.I probably disagree with Bob Inglis on a few things, but I could'nt help but feel for a guy who had to deal with constituents like that.It must have been exasporating having to deal with people who have so deluded themselves with nutjob conspiracy theories, yet having to pretend to take them seriously. If I was him,I would have done to those constituents what Barney Frank did to some of his more unhinged constituents last year at his town hall meeting...This particular moment screamed for that type of commentary...I'm afraid he was just too nice a guy..

He's also correct about the perjoratives of calling people Socialists,Marxists,etc...It's as as untrue as when people were calling Bush a Fascist. It was incorrect and unhelpful...I've noticed it happens here with a certain cadre of posters here whose grip on reality seems to be more than a bit tenuous...

Sadly, the Republican Party seems to be repeating the history of what happened to the old Whig Party before the Civil War.They seem to be going through a constant conservative litmus test to see who is "conservative enough",while the whole time, not seeing how this will marginalize themselves further. It's almost like a circuler firing squad...This may help for a little while,at least into the mid-term elections, but what about after that?

Are we going to start to hear that crazy Tea Party rhetoric all the time?I ask that because I think the Republicans will win back at least one of the Houses...How is that going to fix things? How is that even principled conservativism when it just sounds like looney right wing crapola? How long does it work until it just sounds like empty lies?...People can only be inflamed so much, the they just tune it out...

Another thing,I think Inglis' comments on the carnival barkers on the right like Limbaugh and Beck, playing to that crowd, and,Sarah Palin being some sort of focal point for 2012 look to be spot on...If the lunatic reactionaries are the ones who the Republicans are banking their collective fortunes on,they are in deeper trouble than they realize...

It's about 6 months old,but it still applies...

Let's await the ideologues being discussed to try to shoot the messenger, instead of hearing the message...

I'm impressed.
