"I thought about it, about our 'hasbara', and nothing is working because our story is complicated and the world is used to a sound bite," she explained.

"I have reached the conclusion that we must use these tactics in courts worldwide, just like the Nazis – with all distinctions – used the courts to spread their message."

Some retired person said something.

Must be a slow news day.

But they said it about ISRAEL, so that makes it a red banner news day for naomiglover.

Of course she had nothing to say about the article, simply posted a link. Which means we have to guess why she posted it. So my guess is she's hoping people will see the headline and conclude that an Israeli judge is suggesting Israel should kill Palestinians the way the Nazis killed Jews.

That is if you have trouble reading.

I have posted more than a link. I have also posted in the title description that she is referring to the Israeli PR war.

Ummm. Yeah. You selectively quoted a couple of lines from the article, which supports what I said: you had nothing to say about the article.

So it leaves it to the poster to guess what point you are hoping to make. And I made my guess, which I stand by.

Why do you need to guess when in the topic title, it specifically mentions 'PR war'?

But it also says Israeli judge. When it should actually say retired Israeli judge. I see you're also taking a page outta the Nazi PR handbook!

The irony here is naiomiglover's use of Hadassa Ben-Itto as part of her personal blood libel against Israel. This woman's main claim to fame other than being a judge is being an authority on the Protocols of the Elders of Zionism...a document that naiomi knows all too well.

As usual, your statements are out of context and hateful.
  • Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone."
  • Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds.
  • Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location?
  • The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

How is it out of context?

I made up the quote and she didn't say: I have reached the conclusion that we must use these tactics in courts worldwide, just like the Nazis – with all distinctions – used the courts to spread their message."

At least you concede the hateful nature of your post (though I do not favor prosecutions for hate crimes).

The quote, as best I can parse it is:

"We must learn from the Nazi tactics," "I thought about it, about our 'hasbara', and nothing is working because our story is complicated and the world is used to a sound bite," "I have reached the conclusion that we must use these tactics in courts worldwide, just like the Nazis – with all distinctions – used the courts to spread their message."
What she is saying is that Nazi-like simplification is needed. She is not advocating Nazi policies.

I agree, however, don't you think there is some inherent danger in reducing a very complicated problem to simplistic sloganeering and a simplified message?

Reducing complicated issues to few-second sound-bites is what modern politics and media warfare is all about.

Yes...

That does'nt make it a good thing...

Agreed. But you know the saying, if you can't beam em, join em. Israel's PR strategy of trying to provide long, drawn out, explanations founded in esoteric notions of morality or history or the dire realities of warfare and security clearly hasn't been working for them. The defenses of Israel provided by Israeli spokespeople/ambassadors/politicians often seem too intellectual to appeal to laymen.

The Palestinian refrain "we are freedom fighters resisting the evil occupiers who bulldoze our homes and kill our children" seems to be much more effective despite its lack of truth.

Well..It's 6 one half dozen of the other...

Israel has evbery right to exist and defend itself. When it came into being,it stated it wanted to get along with it's Arab neighbours. The Arab neighbours went a different route by trying to kill the Jewish state. Those Arab enemies were embarassingly vanquished, and have a willing(if entirely unliked) partener(and rallying point) in the Palestinian Question.

The Israeli's have'nt done themselves any favours with some of their treatment of the Palestinians, but I don't see they've had a choice because no matter how they try to make peace,it's never good enough for the other side...

Why is that so hard to understand?

Why do we have reduce(see dumb down) a serious issue into a bumper sticker slogan?

I dunno, ask naomi, she doesn't seem to understand it.

People's attention spans are increasingly reduced due to changes in the nature of the media they are exposed to. Internet, instant gratification, all that jazz. Shrug. For those that are interested in deeper explanations they are always out there, but to reach the masses, it seems slogans are most effective.

Well that's sad because the problem is too complex to ever find a resolution from a couple of headlines and a bumper sticker...Just ain't gonna happen that way....

The people who only see the bumper stickers and know nothing else about the issue aren't the ones involved in coming up with solutions or conducting negotiations.

True...But it's a way to whip up sentiment and quasi-nationalist feelings. It's also a good way to sell a bad deal that looks good on the surface...
