Born Free Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 While I'm pretty happy to see Mulroney cut up like that I'd be more interested in seeing him in jail. This really has nothing to do with the present government (the reform formed out of disgust for Mulroney's CPC) so I'm confused why people are trying to make this score points. Let's all just be happy that a crook has finally been found to be a crook. BINGO! Quote
Born Free Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 What exactly is a constitutional wrangling? Can you be more specific? ...are you being deliberately obtuse... OR do you really have a blind spot? Quote
Born Free Posted June 1, 2010 Report Posted June 1, 2010 We can get our money back from Mulroney if it can be proven he committed perjury under oath, as to what the money was really for and that he lobbied for Schreiber while still a minister of the government. BTW, I hear that after Schreiber does his time in Germany, he's coming back and taking Mulroney to a civil court so this is really over. I think the first term Mulroney had a PM, he found out that his ministers were charging lobbyists before they would make any deal with them. Of course, this isn't legal and Mulroney had to promise changes when he went into the next election. So it looks like Mulroney was charging Schreiber, but wasn't really doing anything for him. Proof was offered to suggest that Mulroney lied about what his role was for taking the cash. The UN story was a crock of shit. Quote
eyeball Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Loading his gun at who? I'm pretty sure that Mulroney isn't running for office anymore! That said Brian Mulroney was one of Stephen Harper's biggest advisors. Go figure. Quote I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical criminal
Wild Bill Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 That said Brian Mulroney was one of Stephen Harper's biggest advisors. Go figure. Cite, please? Harper may have wanted to appear as if the rift between Alliance and Mulroney of the PCs had been healed but I seriously doubt that he would have accepted him as a "closest adviser"! Harper actively and cheerfully worked hard to destroy Mulroney's party! Mulroney was Satan Incarnate to Reform! Go on! Find something to substantiate your claim! Convince me! Molly Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Far be it from me to say anything to defend the ethics of Mr. Harper, but this timeline is sort of interesting: http://stevejanke.com/archives/251723.php Quote "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!" — L. eyeball Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Cite, please? The new Conservative Party of Canada lost the federal election in 2004 when the Liberals successfully painted Harper and his MPs as scary extremists. In response, Harper has now remade himself as a Conservative moderate. Today he's even taking advice from Mulroney, and some of the former PM's key associates have joined him on the campaign trail. Link At one point on the campaign trail, Harper told reporters that he had been in contact fairly regularly with Brian Mulroney and valued his advice. For most of those covering the campaign, this was news. No one had even thought the two were on speaking terms. Link I can't find the article but I recall Lawrence Martin or Geoffrey Simpson or someone describing Harper getting advice from Mulroney on a daily basis during the 2006 election. I've pointed this connection out in exchanges before with heavy-duty reform-minded partisans - usually in the wake of some holier-than-thou comment about corruption and leftists in general. Predictably the connection between the two men is shrugged off. I'm reminded of the high-falutin' talk we hear about getting the government off the people's backs from people who think nothing at all about voting for a government that can't wait to crack down harder and tougher on them. Why is corruption such an issue with so many people who just as quickly shrug it off? I'm afraid I'll never get it. Oleg Bach Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Used car salesmen have more credibility than "Brian" MULRONEY CHILD: "Dad I'm going out, can I get a few bucks?" BRIAN: "You know where it is..in the piano seat, in the big brown envelope...don't take any more than a thousand." Brian should have got a complementary 30 days - just to embarass the shameless prick. Quote

eyeball Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 (edited) I can't help but think about all the mileage the Conservatives are trying to milk out of having eliminated OAS payments to a few aging convicts. Interestingly the amount being saved works out to about what Mulroney received. I guess there's more than one way to balance the budget if not justice. As I had said, I could believe that Harper paid lip service to the idea of Brian as a mentor simply to solidify support from those PC members still grumpy about the merger. I just can't believe it was sincere! I was there with Reform during those years and heard Harper talk many times. The idea of embracing Mulroney so warmly is just too pat! It goes against everything I had experienced for all those years. I'm sorry, it's just too much of a stretch! I'd need much more before I could ever buy the idea. Jerry J. Fortin Posted June 3, 2010 Author Report Posted June 3, 2010 So you can get all in a huff over the lack of sincerity in our politicians while voting for one who is insincere. Gotchya. Harper and his government have been covering Brians legal bills for some time now. This will get ugly. Quote
