Obama Turns His Back On the Press

At a ceremony to sign a bill promoting press freedom around the world on Monday, President Obama refused to take questions from reporters. “I’m not doing a press conference today,” he told Chip Reid of CBS News, “but we’ll be seeing you guys during the course of the week.”

So when the president hosted a “news conference” in the Rose Garden with the president of Mexico on Wednesday, Mr. Reid thought maybe this time Mr. Obama would take questions. Instead, Mr. Obama allowed only a single question

As the event ended and Mr. Obama swiveled to head back into the Oval Office, Mr. Reid tried again and shouted out a question about the elections.

Mr. Obama ignored him. Maybe he meant later in course of the week.

You may recall that on Monday President Obama refused take any questions from the press (irony alert!) immediately after signing the "Press Freedom Act" in the Oval Office. The president, who hasn't held a prime time press conference since last July

So if his goal was to avoid answering any tough questions about yesterday's elections, or the oil spill in the Gulf, or financial regulation, or Iran, or Afghanistan -- he succeeded.

As he and President Calderon turned to walk back toward the Oval Office I asked, loudly enough for him to hear, if he had any comment on the elections. No response.

I then shouted "Do you have any plans for a REAL press conference?" No response, not that I expected one.

Obama's turning out to be a world class jackass. He's now gone almost a year without holding an official prime time press conference. Much longer than President Bush ever went.

We know you aren't exactly the shining example of objectivity, what with you being a correspondent for Al-Jazeera and all. BTW, do they pay extra for constant slanted stories about Israel or is it just expected as a member in good standing?

I had a bad feeling about this guy since day one. Now it's looking more and more like a nightmare. His decisions on prisoners in Afghanistan and his actions regarding the BP Oil spill show just how ineffective and impotent a liberal president can be. Worse than useless

Obama continues to crap on the press.

'Today' interview: Obama shows press contempt

A year ago, I wrote about President Obama being thin-skinned about criticism from the media and having a not so barely suppressed contempt for the press.

And I caught holy heck from some readers and far too many of my colleagues who were still deep in a post-election swoon with this man they kept referring to as so "elegant and cool." Read that column titled "Time for Press to quit being used by Obama" here. It is the first of several columns and posts that I wrote on that theme.

Well, the president took thin skinned to a new level Tuesday morning in his interview with Matt Lauer on NBC's "Today" show. I do not know what the president and his advisers were trying to accomplish with this conversation that took place in Michigan before Obama spoke to a high school graduation in Kalamazoo. But I have never seen Obama look and sound more petty, petulant and tinny.
