wyly Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 "Harmful emissions"? Carbon Dioxide is food for plants. Grade 6 science. Look it up. CO2 is a toxin, at levels higher than 5% it can kill you in minutes...no science knowledge needed... Look it up... JerrySeinfeld Posted April 25, 2010 Author Report Posted April 25, 2010 "Good" is a value judgement...the planet doesn't play such foolish games. Exactly - the volcano was a natural occurence. So Sid and Nancy do gooder green just bought a new hybrid and then some icelandic volcano singlehandedly doubles the carbon footprint of a mid-sized industrial nation in a matter of minutes. And we have control? Not. The planet will be fine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOOc5yiIWkg&feature=related Quote

JerrySeinfeld Posted April 25, 2010 Author Report Posted April 25, 2010 (edited) The arrogance (to use your term) is in the belief that we as a species can do anything we want, and in particular that we can waste and pollute with no repercussion whatsoever. I don't see it as arrogant to choose a 4 hour voyage versus 4 days just because I want to go visit aunt Betty in Vermont. That's the problem with envirronmentalists - they think living a decent life is a sin. Guilt is their middle name. Again - self hating. How about this: relax. The world is doing fine. Wice to see we can always count on you to make a fool of yourself. The arrogance is not in choosing flying over driving (although driving is usually more enjoyable). It is in the "We are not responsible for what we do, so who cares if we harm our environment" attitude. And there is nothing self-hating in assuming responsbility for what we do and trying to do things better. On the contrary. BTW: Alife is not more (or less) decent from the angle of material confort because someone chooses to fly to Vermont instead of driving. Quote
