Pliny Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) Do you have to become the enemy to think he is gone? Although the message of anti-bullying is a good one I, for one, won't be wearing anything pink today. Once again the do-gooders don't get their own message and become what they oppose. There are harassment laws and abuse laws, physical and emotional, that already cover the subject as it is defined. My favourite line, if you have been on this thread for any length of time is, that it is only necessary to understand that the sanctity of person and property be respected and not violated. Insecurity arises out of that concept not being held in the utmost regard. Hurling insults at someone I don't particularly find abusive and it can be argued that some people deserve to have insults hurled at them. I'm sure most of us can differentiate between those who may deserve treatment of this nature and those who do not. If one, however, knows that his physical self and his property is secure he should himself feel secure. So where is the failure? It is my opinion that basically, the law, to which we all agree, is not enforced, or respected and justice has lost sight of it's purpose. Insecurity arises out of this and I for one, do not feel secure in person and property from our own government. They feel entitled to my property and will incarcerate me if they don't get what they feel is their full entitlement. This is intimidating and bullying especially since they cannot clearly explain their laws so that they are understandable. In some cases, they refude to back their own advices. So, no! I won't be wearing pink today. It was a good idea in it's origination as a demonstration of support for a victim of bullying but the message of anti-bullying is lost when the mob mentality means you and your gang are the biggest bullies and you are not simply supporting that very idea of the sanctity of person and property. If an apt description of this movement were applied it would be, "We have met the enemy and he is us!" Michael Hardner Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Do you have to become the enemy to think he is gone? What's going on ? Don't Conservatives believe in doing things for themselves anymore ? What's all of this falling back on the system, justice process etc. ? Next thing you know Conservatives will be championing Feminism by demanding an end to the Burka ! Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner

I know this is sort of tongue in cheek for you and I am not a conservative but I'll answer what I think they might answer. Justice is actually one of the legitimate mandates of government. Even I think that. Conservatives though are not necessarily for small government as I am and do, I believe in varying degrees, think government should intervene in engineering society - however, less so than their Liberal cousins. They just might champion an end to the Burka. Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.

Pliny Posted April 14, 2010 Author Report Posted April 14, 2010 Harry Callaghan would be rolling in his grave, were he not too tough to die ! The perfect example of becoming the enemy and believing you are delivering justice. He existed as a hero for the sole reason justice was lacking. Don't you see his fellow officers and superiors as being inept? If they were effective Harry Callahan would have been a box office flop. kimmy Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 (edited) I thought pink was for breast cancer. Pink ribbons is breast cancer (quick ribbon code reminder: pink- breast cancer. red- AIDS. yellow- support the troops. US flag- remember 9/11 victims. rainbow- gay rights awareness. burgundy - brain aneurysm, headaches, hemangioma, vascular malformation, hospice care, multiple myeloma, William's syndrome, Thrombophilia, Antiphospholid Antibody Syndrome, and adults with disabilities.) Pink t-shirts, however, is indeed bullying awareness. My landlord's charming young son explained it for me a couple of weeks ago: at one school there was a boy who liked to wear pink shirts, and some kids bullied him because he was different. Other kids decided to start wearing pink shirts too, so then the bullies were the ones who were different. It has since gone national. -k Edited April 26, 2010 by kimmy Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
