And help you out of the squirm hole you have dug for yourself....Gosh No! I insist you keep labeling and pigeon holing those who disagree with you....cause calling people bible thumpers adds so much to the debate.

Bill, Bill, Bill... 'bible-thumping social conservatives' were your words else I would not have used/repeated that label, and it isn't PREjudging when it is a direct assessment of an action/policy they have taken/espoused- especially when they've been been called on it but continue to hold to it.

(It isn't even the first thing they've done that fits that stereotype.)

The difference is, the "left" wing isn't acting like stalinists. Only someone ignorant would call anyone a stalinist.

On the other hand, by refusing to put abortion back into the measure, the party is acting exactly like conservative bible thumpers.

I know exactly who Stalin was! And much of what he did! That's not my point.

I referred to the logic behind the argument. Your answer is that "Well, I am RIGHT about my label!"

That's your opinion, not a fact.

My point is how can you be so sure that it is an officially held policy and not a gaffe by some flunky? Your argument seems to be that it is a duly debated, officially held plank of the CPC. That seems to be to be a bit of a stretch, based on not liking them in the first place!

This ALWAYS happens with any gaffe by the CPC! They all get labeled and tagged as on homogenous group. Yet when a Liberal like Hedy Fry talks about burning crosses on lawns in BC it's excused as "Well, that's just Hedy! You can't pretend ALL Liberals are like her!"

From where I sit, just because you support any particular party does not give all its members immunity from being loopy...

If this was a gaffe, an omission if you will, on the part of someone just not thinking, then the CPC would've added it by now. Indeed, before the policy even came out, while it was in formulation, the Liberals asked whether or not abortion would be a part of the policy. Each time the response was no.

To assume it's a gaffe is to deny the reality behind the bible thumper assumption. The donation dynamic of political parties has changed. Money from big business has dried up due to regulations and money is now coming in small donations in $5-$10 increments. One of the largest donor bases for the CPC is the socially conservative evangelical christians and guess what's a big issue for them? Abortion! This was a deliberate play on part of the conservatives to attempt to woo women without forsaking their core base. So really, looking at the real political analysis, is it so wrong to assume that in terms of maternal health, that social conservative evangelical values are driving the agenda here?

Bang on nicky, and the same bible-thumping agenda drives this government's drug policyy as well. Ideology over scientific fact everytime for these socially regressive Cons.

Because they haven't corrected it. Have actively refused to correct it. Have tried every sort of defelection to avoid correcting it, and have had spokesperson after spokesperson appear to talk about how they don't want to talk about it.... but not a single one to correct any misunderstanding.

Maybe Hillary ought to look at all the locations in her own country where abortions are not permitted, not to mention asking her president why he just signed into law a bill wherin he has proimised abortion will get no funding from the government.

The point is how can Canada strike a maternal health policy with other G8 nations when none of them agree with the position put out by the government?
