bloodyminded Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 It strikes me as a completely unimportant issue. But also a legitimate complaint. I'm surprised to hear that people have a sentimental attachment to the line "True patriot love, In all thy sons command," because it's completely inane. What is that supposed to even mean? -k It's just a reversal of conventional syntax. The country "commands" (ie probably connoting "inspires") true love the for country in its inhabitants. It's hackneyed poetry, basically. Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings
Born Free Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 Who gives a shit? If this is supposed to be some kind of symbolic gesture to try and attract women voters it is a sad and pathetic attempt. How about reversing the changes they made to pay equity, and paying women equally for equal work? The throne speach was nothing but fluff. The budget better have a lot more substance to it after saying they needed a 2 month holiday from accountability in Parliament to prepare it. Freakin incompetance. Relax. Harper was merely recalibrating the words to Oh Canada... Quote
Wilber Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 (edited) Yes....just another "meaningless passing reference to some God". Not really, the Monarch is the head of the Church of England. "Being by Gods Ordinance, according to Our just Title, Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governer of the Church within these Our Dominions" is part of the Monarchs title. Edited March 6, 2010 by Wilber Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

"Being by Gods Ordinance, according to Our just Title, Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governer of the Church with in these Our Dominions" is part of the Monarchs title. Fine by me...but all this talk of "God" is criticized for "rednecks", but not those oh so sophisticated monarchists. Just sayin'..... Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
cybercoma Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Maybe they should go back to the original lyrics for The Maple Leaf Forever too. Quote
