Born Free Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 There are no expiry dates on Conservative transgressions. On the other hand, Liberal sins are explained away as necessary evils to fix problems presumably created by past non-Liberal governments. Perhaps you believe that the Liberals are running the government now. They arent. The Harpers are. This also isnt about our once respected Prime Minister Mulroney who distinguished himself by demonstrating that he was rather capable of being just as corrupt as Chretien was. What I dont understand is that when we see something so intuitively obvious to the casual observer such as Peter MacKay lying to Parliament ...it is seen by some as something to admire or perhaps ignore. I dont give a damn what political stripe you wear but when you hold a pile of crap under your nose try not to convince others that it smells like a Cadbury chocolate bar. Our leaders need to have their feet held to the fire at all times. Even if its a leader within the party of your political preference. Quote
Born Free Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) Hardly their own doing. It was the Liberals who changed the process which started having prisoners turned over to the Afghans. ....Morris..Morris...Morris... This isnt about the Liberals anymore. You had your chance to villify them when the policy was established. This is now about the Harper gang claiming that there was never any evidence of torture or any allegations of torture when in fact there was. The boo boo I refer to is lying about it when the Harper troops and Hillier got caught in the headlights and then felt compelled to obfuscate and even out and out lie about it. Hillier reminds me of Shultz on Hogans Heros. I see nothing! I hear nothing! I know nothing! Not good. Edited February 5, 2010 by Born Free Quote

Not good. at one time I thought all they to do to make this a non issue is tell the truth from day one...but now I realize they couldn't for to admit they knew prisoners were being turned over for torture is a war crime...so they had to lie and cover it up, what they should have done is not hand over the detainees... Born Free Posted February 5, 2010 Report Posted February 5, 2010 (edited) No I am the show me kind unwilling to wrap the tinfoil tighter in lieu of tactile proof. I’ll try to connect as many dots for you as I can Morris without making this an essay... General Hillier was responsible to see to it that his detainees (even those transferred to other groups) were treated in accordance with Geneva Conventions – It was not to keep his eyes firmly shut and in essence then declare that he did not see or hear of any torture….especially when he knew the reputation of the Afghan folks. The CO who waits for bad things to happen instead of taking action to see that bad things do not happen is sure to have lots of bad things happen. Hillier didn’t do what he was supposed to do. We all know that MacKay personally knew of possible prisoner torture by the Afghans when he was Foreign Minister. He heard it from the International Red Cross folks. It should have been a red flag for his generals especially when he eventually became Defense Minister. It was reported back in November 2009 that some of Colvins 2006 emails to MacKay’s office have been seen by news people and they clearly outline Colvins concerns over prisoner treatment. General Natynczyk’s testimony is rather interesting…I have taken it from another news article… Chief of Defence Staff Walter Natynczyk today, who said not only was it known Afghan police abused prisoners but that one in particular had been handed over by Canadian troops. Natynczyk said new information arrived on his desk today after telling a parliamentary defence committee Tuesday that a prisoner beaten by Afghan police had not been in Canadian custody before he was handed over in May 2006. "The moment I saw this report this morning I realized that the information I provided yesterday was incorrect and I am responsible for that," said the general, adding the report also noted that prisoner abuse by Afghan police was known. This means that the Harper government’s declaration that there were no credible reports of Canadian detainees being abused once they were handed over to Afghan authorities was a complete fabrication. We all know now that the Harper gang of political thugs then declared that Colvin was duped and that he was not credible…. Then later he was threatened by government officials if he testified as well as threatening his career even when they knew they couldnt. Nice. Edited February 5, 2010 by Born Free Quote
bloodyminded Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 (edited) So...Harper supporters agree that the Liberals knew about the torture; which makes the Liberals hypocrites; but (magically)there's no torture going on..... I'm just trying to get this straight, listening to the "prove it!" brigade rhetorically hanging themselves..... Oleg Bach Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Whether high right or extreme left - our powerful and elite class look upon the miltary as blue collar trash and slaves to be literally duped to death - The powers that be love killing - and it makes them feel relevant and extremely important - the sad part is that these freaks who actually send troops to die are just as satisfied by the killing of their own as well as the supposed enemy.
