Pernell Roberts, who played Adam Cartwright, has died of cancer, the same cancer that took Micheal Landon. I remember Mr. Roberts. Sadly his career nose-dived after he left Bonanaza (strangely of his own choice).

Nope...the last major (USA) network western was "The Magnificent Seven" which aired on CBS for two seasons (1998 - 2000). CBS' Gunsmoke also ran in prime time until 1975, later than Bonanza (1973).
