I'm pleased to see bureaucrats at Foreign Affairs exercising due diligence before paying invoices submitted for legal services. Anyone having had any dealings with lawyers knows that it's not always easy to decipher their statements requesting remittance.

They knew who he was and what it was for, they just stated it was more than the previous allowances. The guy is deputy intelligence in Washington, they know who he is. Frankly it exceeded maximum allowable expenses, and they still paid him. "Can't find a cheaper lawyer in Washington, that consulatations for $21,000? At $500/hour that is like 42 hours of consulation, I'm starting to think either Colvin spent a lot of time on the issue, or his lawyer is VERY well paid.

Toronto figures:

Th eir average* hourly rate

was $338.

■ Hourly rates ranged from

$78 to $750.

While we're on the subject of whistleblowers, does the name Allan Cutler ring a bell?

Guess your Liberals don't much like whistleblowers either huh?

Gosh, how come there are no replies when I bring up Allan Cutler's story?

really? Cutler stated he would not have come forward if it were not for Liberal Paul Martin's promise that sponsorship program 'whistleblowers' would be protected... notwithstanding subsequent Liberal government initiatives (Bill C-25 -> Bill C-11) that culminated in the first Canadian 'whistleblower' legislation, the "Public Servants Disclosure Protection Act"

as an aside, although you didn't link to your post's information source, it's really your prerogative to identify the article you quoted directly from (wikipedia) - your verbatim quote ends just before the following most interesting revelation...

Cutler ran as the Conservative Party of Canada candidate in the Ottawa South riding in the 2006 Federal election.

Paul Martin broke a lot of promises.

Incidentally, the real difference was that Cutler was a whistle blower. Colvin is not.

So Cutler ran as a Conservative, what's your point? You think he would run as a Liberal? After the way they treated him?

no... just pointing out the little ditty you some how managed to exclude from your verbatim wiki cut/paste. I note you completely ignore the other points about Cutler acknowledging Liberal Martin's promise as the factor that allowed him to come forward... that you also ignore the subsequent Liberal whistleblower legislation. Somehow in your zeal to presume to score points, you ignored... and continue to ignore... those points. Interesting.
