And I thought the Engineers just had a strike earlier in the year and it lasted about 4 days before the company and Union cut a deal? But I think it was a different union? Quote

madmax Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 Wasn't that via? Thank you, it was.... Any idea which union or if it was the same? Better give them what they want or all movement of goods will come to a hault and the already suffering economy will continue to decay...BUT - if you have a billion bucks in the bank you out of plain arrogant ego can wait out the strkers while the common people starve....someone should suggest that the banksters go on strike.... There is no excuse for this - pay them what they deserve and keep those trains rolling. Rich fat guys take this stuff personally ..that they have to break the union out of sheer ego - that was Conrad Blacks great character flaw..always wanting to win..we need to take turns at winning. They are the money party. Once they are booted out of office they will have turned a tidy profit. Just like Italian Mafia developers, who simply take a great profit and then bail out handing over the action to another family within the family.. fellowtraveller Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Aren't conductors respecting the picket lines? Plenty of people out of work, maybe CN could train some of them to keep the system running. Chrysler or GM autoworkers perhaps? Quote The government should do something.

This is BS they are going to try and legislate them back to work. They aren't essential you can't just do that because it makes your government look bad. Quote

They aren't essential you can't just do that because it makes your government look bad. Legislating them back to work basically means they'll be sent directly to arbitration. Arbitration means they'll get contracts comparable to other unions with similar industries/skillsets/markets. It doesn't necessarily mean the unions get screwed. Often the government ends up on the losing side. That's why the garbage piled up so high this summer in Toronto. They were afraid of what would happen in arbitration. They already had a contract which CN refused to operate under for a year. Arbitration is fine when done in good faith, CN clearly is not ready for this or they would not have imposed new rules on the workers before a contract was settled. Quote
