Topaz Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 Today,in the debates about trade with Jordan, a Tory member was hard at work signing his Xmas cards this year.I guess sitting there listening to your own member telling what is so good with trading with Jordan and why it should be passed. It also nice to know that Xmas spirit isn't dead, at least, for this member who voted against any EI help for others who won't have a Xmas! Quote

Topaz Posted November 20, 2009 Author Report Posted November 20, 2009 One can only surmise, they were out doing some christmas shopping... Or maybe they were in the eatery eating the the seal meat. Since coming to Ottawa a lot of the Tory members are really putting on the weight, the seal meat should help cut the fat. Quote

DrGreenthumb Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 Mike Duffy is hard at work flying around on the taxpayers dime to host Conservative party fundraisers. Anyone have the current estimate of Duffy's cost to taxpayers for flying around to 100 dollar a plate Tory fundraisers? Quote

DrGreenthumb Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 The NDP "backbencher" is not using the money to travel around and fundraise for the NDP, but nice try. Mike Duffy is billing taxpayers for his expenses that he incurs flying around to raise money hosting 100 dollar a plate dinners. Big Difference. That is really not much different from simply stealing the money directly from taxpayers and shovelling it into the Conservative's bank account. If Duffy wants to fly around the country and fundraise for the corrupt conservatives the Conservatives should pay for his services out of their own money. Quote

DrGreenthumb Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 (edited) I have a newspaper that says Duffy is flying out to MB to host a 100 dollar a plate Tory fundraising dinner, are you suggesting that he won't be billing the taxpayers for the flight? I think its pretty safe to assume that he will continue to bill the taxpayers for his fundraising trips. If you think he is not going to bill the taxpayers go ahead and prove me wrong. So far he has billed taxpayers for all his travels to Tory fundraisers so why would this be any different? Quote
M.Dancer Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 There is another thread in here that claims Duffy's has already billed taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses in the few months he has been a senator. Which of course is on par for an NDP backbencher I think its pretty safe to assume that he will continue to bill the taxpayers for his fundraising trips. Even safer to assume you will fail to back up that claim. If you think he is not going to bill the taxpayers go ahead and prove me wrong. I just did. the Burden of Proof lies with the positive claimant. So far he has billed taxpayers for all his travels to Tory fundraisers so why would this be any different? Duffy doesn't even deny he is billing for the expenses, his only response is to say that an NDP MP has spent about the same as he has. The MP however is billing for constituency business, not trips tp party fundraisers. Quote

ToadBrother Posted November 20, 2009 Report Posted November 20, 2009 That what the NDP chap said. Duffy countered of course asking if a Senator's job was less important than a backbenchers... In the grand scheme of things... yes. He doesn't have a riding that he needs to attend to. The whole point of travel budgets for MPs is so they can go home to deal with constituents. Duffy doesn't actually have constituents in any meaningful sense of the word. Quote
