Are you going to forbid her from watching television, too? And from going to the movies? And from listening to pop music stars?

And forbid her from being around her peers?

If you think Cosmo is the reason kids have eating disorders, you have a lot to learn before you have a daughter; and I'm not saying that to insult you, just as a statement of fact.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think of Playboy?

We strictly monitor what our children watch and read and take in. That's our jobs as parents, to guide them and protect them from evil. Active parenting isn't just plopping kids down in front of the TV while going to smoke pot. Any good parent limits what they can and cannot watch.

Then my parents sucked. A parents job isn't to protect there kids from evil it's to teach them how to deal with it, because once that kid turns 18 they're on their own and if they haven't learned to deal with it then they're screwed.

Say that again, louder, and say it often!

Just because your kids get bigger, it doesn't mean they magically become more knowledgeable. Keeping information from them and thus preventing them from learning is the exact opposite of 'good parenting'.

It seems to me that the strippers and the pornography industry probably have a pretty good idea what men find sexually appealing, and for the most part it seems like what men generally find interesting is *not* represented by the sort of androgynous stick-thin models that fashion-shows seem to employ.

I remain puzzled as to who they're trying to reach and what they're actually selling. It seems to me like there's a huge disconnect between the "fashion world" and the real marketplace.

the fashion industry isn't selling body image: it's selling clothes. Skinny models are chosen to showcase the clothes without the distraction of breasts and hips. Think of runway models as human coathangers and it all becomes clear.
