scribblet Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 An you know that how, there is no indication that the Tories would call an election this year, possibly next spring. Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
madmax Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 An you know that how, there is no indication that the Tories would call an election this year, possibly next spring. I recall talking to a CPC MP during the Labour Day Weekend. He was completely dumbfounded and in total disbelief that the government could fall. He didn't believe it and said that the government will find a way to survive. I didn't believe his words, but they have proven to be accurate so far. Thus, it didn't appear to me as if the CPC had any intention of pulling the same stunt as last year. However, I did expect the government to fall, and still believe that fall is this FALL Quote
Sir Bandelot Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 I would guess Sir Bandelot is a NDPer. Naa I would be a liberal, but I hate Ignatieff. I would be an NDP'er, but I hate Layton. I would be a CPC'er... etc Quote
jdobbin Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 An you know that how, there is no indication that the Tories would call an election this year, possibly next spring. I know that because Harper doesn't believe in fixed term elections. He'll only do what is Consitutionally mandated but he will call an election earlier or later than his fixed date because the law doesn't stop him from doing it. Even now, he would love to call an election but knows it would look bad given he has stated that we shouldn't be having one. However, it is easy to see that he would call one if the Liberals had decided to support the government in the fall. That is how he rolls. Quote
jdobbin Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Thus, it didn't appear to me as if the CPC had any intention of pulling the same stunt as last year. But then I'm sure this MP wasn't consulted on the last election or on proroguing Parliament either. Quote
punked Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Posted October 2, 2009 But then I'm sure this MP wasn't consulted on the last election or on proroguing Parliament either. Harper is almost as bad at talking to his caucus as iggy. You hear the rumour someone is going to cross the floor? Apparently in todays Calgary Herald. Something about Iggy not listening to the caucus. Quote

Shady Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 Even now, he would love to call an election but knows it would look bad given he has stated that we shouldn't be having one. In an earlier post, you made the excuse for the Liberal snap election of "might as well, Harper was going to call for one otherwise." Now you admit that he wouldn't have called for an election because as you state, correctly, he doesn't think there should be one at this time. You're either a compulsive liar, or very confused. Quote
jdobbin Posted October 2, 2009 Report Posted October 2, 2009 In an earlier post, you made the excuse for the Liberal snap election of "might as well, Harper was going to call for one otherwise." The Liberals can't call a snap election as an Opposition party. They can't. They can say they want an election because they lack confidence but they can't call one. The Tories can do this without relying on any other party and have done so. Now you admit that he wouldn't have called for an election because as you state, correctly, he doesn't think there should be one at this time. You're either a compulsive liar, or very confused. My feeling is that it is you who have been shown to be a compulsive liar and confused. Harper is saying now that an election is the wrong move but he doesn't want to lose a confidence vote. He will call a snap election when it pleases him. Or do you think that is impossible? Quote
