Topaz Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Now that Mayor Miller isn't running for the mayor in the next election who do you think should run or who could be elected. I've seen report of Tory trying his hand for this job! Do people in TO really want him as mayor? Dancer? Quote
Wild Bill Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 Now that Mayor Miller isn't running for the mayor in the next election who do you think should run or who could be elected. I've seen report of Tory trying his hand for this job! Do people in TO really want him as mayor? Dancer? Well, Tory came very close when he ran against Miller last time! And now polls show that Miller's way is overwhelmingly unpopular with folks in Toronto. I would think it obvious he would have a good chance! And now polls show that Miller's way is overwhelmingly unpopular with folks in Toronto.I would think it obvious he would have a good chance! I think he's got a good chance, however, he's never won a political race in his life. The Star reported today that George Smitherman, the deputy premier of the province who has also been eyeing a run for mayoral duties, is going to be shuffled out of cabinet in the next week or two in a move that certainly cements him as a candidate as well. Tory has a shot but Toronto electing a Tory over a Liberal? It'll be close, that's for sure. I even see a third, further left wing candidate rising up through the middle to take out both. It'll be interesting, that's for sure. Quote
Shady Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 I think he's got a good chance, however, he's never won a political race in his life. I think that to be a member of the provincial government, and leader of his party, he had to have at least won a couple political races. Quote

Great hatchet man. When Harris couldn't close down 2 of our 3 hospitals, Smitherman went ahead and did it, thus undermining the Elected Liberal MPP who campaigned on saving the hospitals when the Tories were in power. Should be a good person to dismantled the public system and get more contract employees and less public employees. Will be good at parades too... Quote
KeyStone Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 George Smitherman and Karen Stintz are the two that are frequently mentioned. After Tory's sound defeat last election, he may want to take a break from politics for a few years. Quote

Anyone that can get in there and cut spending will be great. We need to take back the City council that has been under NDP control since 1992. Taxes have gone up by a lot since then. Contract employees are better and cost much less. The unions have too much control in Toronto and that needs to cut down drastically. I don't think we need to pay garbage men $40 per hour. Toronto needs to put out bids on a 5 year cycle. 5 year contracts for almost every service out there. Let the private companies handle the benefits. The city shouldn't be in that business. We could save millions. Quote "You are scum for insinuating that isn't the case you snake." -William Ashley Canadian Immigration Reform Blog
