Every liberal government tries to solve problems by raising

taxes. This always has an adverse affect on our economy, whether it be provincial or federal. Are we now at the point ,if the Liberals are re-elected,that

a necessary tax revolt should be implemented by Canadians?

The first step would be not to vote for a party that continually raises taxes and creates more problems economically and otherwise by doing so.

Benjamin Franklin, an American with interesting ideas, wrote in 1789: "In this world, nothing is certain but death and taxes." What a fateful year.

Tax revolt? Vote for the candidate that makes the most credible promise to cut taxes - then wait and see.

I don't remember any recent tax hikes by the Federal Liberals. Let's see.... I'll do a quick Google search here...

I took the first hit I found and there was a 3% reduction for middle income earners and a 7% reduction in corporate rates in 2000.

Well, you have to take into account a politician, let's say Dalton from Ontario, who said "I won't raise your taxes, but I won't lower them either".

Since he was elected, there has not been a day where a new scheme to collect money from the people of Ontario

has not been enforced or put out as a trial ballon.

If Canadians could not see the real Dalton in the public debate with the other leaders, then God help us in the federal election coming up.

Martin will continue to be PM, don't worry about that. I doubt he will be looking to raise taxes in the near future.

Dalton hasn't said he's going to raise taxes either, but has been looking into some other ways to raise money. He's going to find it hard to run a Liberal government with Mike Harris' tax rates.

But the Liberals will continue to 'play it safe'.

It's a good schtick. The Liberals may well get re-elected with it.

Here's the subtext - we pretend we don't take from you and you pretend you give all to us. End result? Canada's a wonderful country!

The Liberals make sure everything works well (despite all the silly noise the TV people make). You can get on with life and your family affairs. Canada is a wonderful country!

Never trouble trouble until trouble troubles you. Vote Liberal.

Welcome to modern Canada.

The liberals play it safe ,but sooner or later, and one can only hope, that Canadians will see through them.At one time,if a PM had said,",it's only a couple of million dollars not accounted for",there would have been enough public outcry he would have been arrested or forced to resign.

The Canada of today,it looks like,is ready to vote his sidekick back into another four years of the same less than reputable governance of Canada. Some flags that should be waving are inexplicably lying flat somewhere.

Most taxes are taken directly from ones check, its not an option. How do you propose a tax revolt be carried out?

My idea was to get a confederation of a few thousand or better, a few hundred thousand people and all commit fraud on our tax returns, claiming that we earnt $0. They can't throw a few hundred thousand people in jail and it would cost more than it was worth to press charges against all anyway, especially if there were a few good lawyers involved - and I'm sure there would be, good lawyers earn a lot and are probably sick of seeing the government take half of it.

I would do this on the basis that the government has failed in its missions, that the Canadian military and security forces are physically incapable of guaranteeing my safety from foreign foes in any way, that the healthcare and welfare systems are so badly run that I will not fund them any more without a management change (shareholders in a company can vote executives out of office) and so forth.

More seriously, I would like to see a law that required any tax increase beyond inflation or any new tax or service fee be approved by Parliament before being enacted.
