punked Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Now Shady would you say this is a great map or the greatest map? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/03/d...a_n_250043.html Quote
Sir Bandelot Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Mike Lux, a respected progressive political strategist and former adviser to Bill Clinton, attributed the retained Democratic advantages partly to "changing demographics and overall trends" as well as the harm dealt by "Bush and all the crazies" in the GOP. Crazies is right. The birthers movement and the fearmongering, as well as historical forgetfullness by the crazies has driven away the more normal, moderate Republicans. You can only fool some of the people some of the time. Normal people that is... Quote
Pliny Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 I would say that the last paragraph is an indication this is non-news. "Democrats have had a nationwide lead in party identification in 68 of the past 70 years," he continued, pointing to data from Gallup and Pew. "But Republicans held the White House for 36 of those 70 years." The Huffington post is of course quite partisan and always trying to paint the left's position as rosy. It isn't. Obama is losing his popularity. Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.

Shady Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Well see what the map looks like after 2010! I think we all remember this map, don't we? PIC Quote

Sir Bandelot Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Well see what the map looks like after 2010! I think we all remember this map, don't we? PIC "Oh for the good old days". A lot can still happen before the next election. Seems to me as long as the GOP keeps playing the crazy card, and puts their "faith" in someone like Palin for example, real conservatives will not take them seriously. All it takes is for the Dems to come up with a strategy to appeal to rational conservative Republicans, and the whole house of cards will come down. Now I aint no Liberal there Pliny, so before yougo saying "You people.." let me say, I don't give a hoot who wins in the US, as long as they are competant. The GOP has to make some adjustments. Quote
Riverwind Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 The trouble with these kinds of polls is Democrat supporters are less likely to show up at the polls. This means these results do not necessarily predict the outcome of an election. Other polls, such as Rasmussen show the Republican fortunes are recovering as people grow wary of the dems attempts to rush through so many hugely expensive bills: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_con...essional_ballot Quote To fly a plane, you need both a left wing and a right wing.
Wilber Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Who knows what will happen at the polls but it sure makes FOX News more entertaining. Their idiot clips make up 30% of Jon Stewart's show these days. I'm waiting for an exploding head. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC
Shady Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Next thing you will be bringing Nixon's election Map out Shady. You can't be this dense. It's impossible. Bringing up an electoral map from 4 or 8 years ago isn't the same as bring up an electoral map from 30+ years ago. My point is that political winds change, and change fast. All you have to do is examine the Bush v Kerry map from a mere 4 years ago. Get a grip. Quote
Pliny Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 No, but he is crazy. I note you didn't say he is a "crazy lefty". Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
Cameron Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Is Lou Dobbs still going on about Mexicans and the "Attack on the Middle Class"? Quote Economic Left/Right: 3.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.26 I want to earn money and keep the majority of it.
Pliny Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Now I aint no Liberal there Pliny, so before yougo saying "You people.." let me say, I don't give a hoot who wins in the US, as long as they are competant. The GOP has to make some adjustments. You aren't a liberal? Does "competant" mean good at spelling? Sarah Palin didn't get to be Governor of Alaska through incompetence. She isn't the most politically astute politician, I agree. She got to where she is by exposing some raw nerves in Alaskan politics. What is a competent politician though? If they can get elected they are competent. That doesn't mean they have a clue about the role of government. It usually means they have secured an elite position and they must act to maintain it which usually involves appeasing special interest groups, a lot of public relations and photo ops and denigrating any rivals who threaten to usurp their "power". If any one could clean up the snake pit that is Washington, DC or Ottawa I would relish their appearance. Sarah Palin threatens change to the status quo and that is what is most unacceptable about her to both centrist Republicans and especially Democrats who enjoy everyone being on the same slippery slimy footing. She may not be competent enough to accomplish changing the extant "good old boy politics as usual" scenario and definitely would not be able to do it alone. Obama certainly is bringing about change. He's a very ambitious and destructive person, in my opinion. And I base that upon his opinion that he knows what is best for everyone. What is best for "everyone" is not up to a single individual. Sarah Palin's promise is not to tell you she has the best health care plan for everyone. How Wall Street should be run or how an automobile manufacturer should do business. I know you would like to see these things regulated but the fact of the matter is that they are heavily regulated and government fails abysmally at doing it's job of upholding justice. If the regulation they have now doesn't eliminate injustices what will more regulation do? Palin isn't going to tell you what the government is going to do for you but will try and get out of your way. Although she is a little too much for government for my liking it is a nice reversal from the encroachment of the State, something the left must villify at all cost if they wish to achieve their goal of "taking care of you". Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
