whowhere Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Go ahead.....you can use a big chain saw on the 49th parallel. If you really need a friend, get a dog. Or be done with the matter a capitulate to the Euro Zone. That will give Canada and Canadians access to Europe (Canada's heritage) and a market of 450 million people. Canada has tremendous resources to aid Europe particularly Natural Gas which they are being held hostage by Russia. What makes Canada think it's better than all the Countries who adopted the Euro over their currencies. Canada will benefit immensely by making this move. Michael Hardner Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 I agree with Smallc. I think the system can be tuned and efficiencies can be improved, but the political will has to be there. Most of the gripes that I read on this board don't reflect the broad view of Canadians. Indeed, I would say that political apathy is a product of a system that has produced a well fed and generally happy populace. The majority of people don't feel they need to pay attention to politics. It's only the political junkies that we hear about on here, and they're always upset... Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

It's only the political junkies that we hear about on here, and they're always upset... That describes me to a tee! That said, I think you and Smallc have a valid point. It may well be that most people are so well taken care of that they have become apathetic. Yet that does not mean there are no problems at all. Quote
Molly Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 And excessive party partisanship is one of those things that desperately needs tuning, ASAP. There really does need to be a shift of authourity away from the parties and back to the individual representatives, and I'm all for almost anything that will accomplish that. I say, rather than lament the fact that the disinterested are staying out of the system, let's turn around and make it a positive. Let's start demanding higher levels of debate, less 'gotcha' and 'emotional violin' politics, and more facts and figures. The more we push towards political junkie style discussion, the better the debate will become. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

Passion in politics is indeed what we need, yet it does need to be tempered with a dose of reality, which is not something the French do. Quote

Free trade ought to be scrapped and Canada made subservient to the Uk parliament. Canada's parliament is good for nothing anyway.
