ironstone Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 In a nutshell, one Preadorshani Biazar,a caseworker for Ontario's Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee was arrested in 2007 and charged with the theft of $1.23 MILLION dollars from the mentally ill, homeless and even dead people she was suspposed to represent.Only a tiny portion of the money has been recovered, and she has liquidated the rest nicely out of reach of authorities. She has been at this for a period of 12 years and living the high life.Although her salary went from 50000 to 70000$ annually, she is referred to as"a relatively low earning provincial bureaucrat" complete with all the generous benefits typical of gov't positions. She may be sentenced later this year and given the fact that white collar crime is not considered a serious crime in Canada, she will likely get a slap on the wrist and be allowed to keep her ill gotten gains. Can anyone tell me why they oppose tougher sentencing again? If there were any justice in this country, she would spend the rest of her life behind bars, along with the seizure of all family assets. But that won't happen....she's probably laughing her head off. http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Governme...0881/story.html Quote Beware the Brookfield industrial complex...
noahbody Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I still shake my head at how Chuck Guite only served 1/6 of his sentence (7 months). I assume he's collecting a nice taxpayer-funded pension as well. If that doesn't sent the "crime does pay" message, I don't know what does. Quote
anon156 Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Well Canadian investigators cannot be that good the money was sen to Barbados where her previously unemployed husband moved their family and even opened a rock importing company by the name of carrock inc. they are the exclusive importers to a special type of contruction rock for the Caribbean, he even rents a pretty sweet place in Prior Park, St.James for around US$2000-$2500 per month. If the right person reads this and follows up on it further money laundering charges can be put on their heads...Barbados has a pretty solid system when it comes to these types of crimes. Quote
fellowtraveller Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 Sentences should and often are linked to the perps actions in returning the loot. That kind of crime should get a few years assuming she returns all she can and can prove she has retrieved all that is retrievable. If she has carefully squirrelled it all away and refuses togive it back, the promise of a few extra years might change her mind. Criminal charges should be brought on her supervisors too, no way that much cash should go missing for so long. At the very least, people should be fired and pensions taked back with proceeds going to those that were cheated. Years ago, one of the guys who emptied parking meters here was busted for longterm theft of coins. he would empty the meters every day, and fill up his lunchpail with quarters, loonies or toonies. He got about $2 million over a few years, an unbelievable amount consdiering how much of the total that must represent. His one arm must have been dragging on the ground from the weight. His supervisors had no clue, on several levels. He lived in an expensive house and had a few high end vehicles, nobody seemed to twig. he was caught by accident, somebody finally noticed when he was on leave the take jumped up dramatically, up to the same levels that other meter emptiers enjoyed. Duh. There was one change made, I could see the meter service guys from my office window, with a city parking area directly below. Right after he was busted, the van arrived as usual to pick up coins from the meters. It was like a horde of clowns at the circus pouring out of a VW beetle. Four guys got out, two to empty meters, two to watch them empty meters. Job creation, Canada style. Quote The government should do something.

Would have to be more than a few years...consider 3 year = 156 weeks = 780 working days 780/2,000,000 = $2,564 dollars a day or $1282 toonies... As someone who counts every dime as a prisoner, and who sorts and saves all change that comes home with me, I can tell you that $750 in toons weighs more than you want to drag... M.Dancer Posted September 23, 2010 Report Posted September 23, 2010 The true words of someone who has chiseled into more than one Ms. Pac Man machine in his lifetime.... No only one. It was an arcade shooting game at a pool hall owned by the Cotroni's. I made off with two pockets filled with dimes. I was 15. I was given a very stern talking to. I was told not to smoke drugs, to keep my nose clean, and if I needed work, I could ask Vic or Carlo (who ran the International Sprts Cafe) and they would find me something. I was also told that if I ever did it again they would beat the crap out of me. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
