Nice try. Practical consideration in how the government respects a right is not a limit to that right.

And what you are trying to do is justifying removing the linguistic rights of Canadians, or render them meaningless. Won't work.

So if I walk into a government office in Vancouver insisting that they service me in Inuktitu, what rights do you opine I should have?

If English and French is the essence of Canada, it is because the formation of Canada went from east to west and from French to English. To me the essence of Canada is not about being able to receive public services in French in Vancouver but about making sure the French heritage is kept alive there like everywhere in Canada.

Why would some who speaks the common and universal language INSIST on being served in another language - unless they are a disruptive prick - and doing it out of de-constructive spite!

You mean why should anyone object to a Canadian getting government service in the Canadian language of his/her choice. unless the objector is an ignorant prick doing it out of spite?

Nice try at making it sound likes it's all language everywhere or only one language - pereferably one invented by you,

The right for Canadians to be served in English, French or a First Nation languages by the Government of Canada should be the governing principle, and the cases when the numbers are not sufficient to ensure this should be the exception. Not the other way around.

It is aactually tthat standard already. As for Chinese - sorry, but it is not a Canadian language.

You are suggesting Chinese-Canadians are not as Canadian as aboriginal Canadians or French Canadians?

They are very much so. Their language is not part of Canada's identity.

With an estimated 7-10% of the world's population beleived to be at least functional in English, I'd hardly call it universal.

English is the language of business and science, or at least widely accepted in these fields. What claims does French have?

The language of business and science is math and French are very strong in (fundamental) math.

French is still present in business...less so in science....but you're right, English has taken it's place. That doesn't cahnge the reality that Canada was founded by two large language groups that still exist today.

Also Canada can be much more than a business or a scientific experiment.

Canada is much more than that. People get so tied up with worrying about money that they forget all of the things that this country stands for and the dream of a nation that stretched from the Atlantic to the Pacific. I think it's time that more people realize where we cam from and where we are in relation to the rest of the world. Every single one of us is extremely lucky to live in Canada....I am thankful for it every day.

To me, Canada is still like a gold mine where too much Canadians behave like exclusive exploiters.

They may need to forget that because gold mines are dangerous places to live when no sharing agreement is there to curb greed.

There is a sharing agreement....the people with more gold don't seem to like it though.

I myself have read research findings available in other languages, sometimes even available in a few languages, yet not yet available in English.

I also remember reading an article a few years ago mentioning that a scientists is more likely to publish a positive finding in English, but not a negative one. So there's even the risk that scientific literatrue available in English is unbalanced.

And what about Canada's First Nations' and Inuit languages? Why are they not among Canada's official languages? Are they less equal than either English or French? It would seem to me that they would be more a part of this land's identity than either English or French.

I don't think there's much denying that the way our history books are currently written ('We' discovered the new world, 'we' are based on two founding nations, etc. is very ethnically biassed). A more accurate perspective would be that the Europeans were discovered off 'our' shores, and two foreign powers established a new nation on 'our' land.

As the alternative song goes:

'Oh Canada, our home on native land...'
