Higgly
Just finished watching Harper trying to save face by paying tribute to the Black America thang. The Obama administration is starting to send messages. Harper has been a Bush man. Hard to see how Ignatieff can claim to be anything better. We shall see what we shall see... President Obama is making his first state visit to Canada! Why? Because he knows where his countries interest are. We are his countries main trading partner and military ally outside of Britian. We are hooked economically also. Although the left will have a breakdown over this ,we have so much in common culturally too! We share a common border and Harper and Iggy will show well for us ! I just hope Jack Layton and his crew are on their best behaviour.I think Obama and Harper will hit it off famously.
kimmy
Harper frozen out Nonsense. You can't have it both ways Yes We Can! Just finished watching Harper trying to save face by paying tribute to the Black America thang. The Obama administration is starting to send messages. All of the messages coming from Washington have so far been extremely positive. Obama has had his people reassuring Canadians that all that "NAFTA talk" is nothing to worry about and that they're really glad that we're their BFF. Harper has been a Bush man. Hard to see how Ignatieff can claim to be anything better. What are you saying? Is Obama going to create some kind of personal antipathy with Harper because he was Dubya's buddy? Is Obama going to be hostile to Ignatieff because some people think he likes Dubya? Wait, did Americans just elect a junior high cheerleader to be President?! We shall see what we shall see... We shall see a President elected to fix the economy do his best to maintain a strong relationship with one of America's most vital trading partners. We shall not see a President who vowed to strengthen America's international relations proceed to pick a fight over something as petty as "you were GW Bush's buddy, so you're not my friend!" If there's friction in Canada-US relations, it'll be because Obama's buddies in Congress want a fight on trade, not because Harper was buddies with Bush. -k
bush_cheney2004
I suspect that the Obama Administration will orchestrate a Muher Arar apology at the outset, but it will be tricky to pull off given today's FBI "revelation". It's a small bone to toss Canada's way as a token of "change". In the background, the US feds will still keep an eye on his terrorist activities! Drea
President Obama is making his first state visit to Canada! Why? Because he knows where his countries interest are. First time I've ever seen right winger admit that. Thanks. Most rightwingers think like Ann Coulter... That the US is so big that they don't "need" Canada. Nice to know it's recognized that they need us just as much as we need them. While the right and the left may have "breakdowns" because of the newly minted Black/sorta socialist President, the centrists are cheering. Today is a great day in the USA! Thank you US citizens, thank you for Obama, thank you for your hope and optimism. Cheers!

How long before the left in Canada are hanging the big bad American in effigy?
Drea
Don't know Muddy, and don't care. Like I said, centrists are cheering regardless of how "rightwing" Obama is in relation to Harper. He's left of Bush and that's all that counts in my opinion. I have nothing against Harper personally. He's just a guy doing his best to twist himself into a pretzel trying to please both the far right and the far left. Governing from the centre.... ignoring the panicky bleating from the fringes... is the best policy. Seems the Liberals are the smartest in this regard.
