So who then determines in kind value for service and how do you tax it?

Let the market determine the value and you could tax it by simply allocating a portion of your work/time towards that end.

Or should we allow the other canadian currency? Do you want to pay your morgage in pelts?

You're really determined to throw up anything you can think of in the way of resistance to exploring other ideas aren't you?

And when the market says that swamps, although wonderful and great, have no value outside of their natural beauty; they can not be traded, leveraged or exploited...will you don a hair shirt and wail in the wildeness?

I like the idea of pelts though..what's urban racoon trading for on the open market?

What if the government has no need for what you can offer what is that worth?

Sorry but with the way things are it will never work.

I am very resistant against exporing marxist ideas yes. The only way for you system to work has been tried, its called communism and that was an utter failure. Since the markets were created in the 1600's by England, its the only system of commerce to survive because it is the most robust. All others have been doomed to failure. Capitalism works period. Your ideas have been proven in wrong in the last 400 years.

Everything in economics is based on consumable commodities, and what value can be determined by demand. Its caused by the nature of the human race.

Also immobvables...like real estate.

Real estate that cannot be sold or exploited are like rainbows, beuatiful but worthless.

We are a society of consumers. We are not happy unless we are in a state of perpetual consumerism. It's our form of material prayer. It generates happiness in most...once the credit card bottoms out so do the spirits..consummerism is a brittle religion as we now see. Producers produce and consumers consume - It seems that the producers are not respected and are being drained dry..there are limits to how much one can eat or consume..we have no limits and that is the problem. A developer that views land as product is not a real producer..he is also a consumer - a farmer is a producer - and a dreamer that entertains and delights the senses of consumers is a producer of sorts...both the farmer and the artist are discouraged while the cut throat opportunist is exaulted and wrongly respected...there are limits..and we are reaching them quickly. So a world with out rainbows is exceptable?

What is being consumed changes over time, we have seen it over and over. To think that people will continue to buy what they do today does not fit with history, we have ssen the rise and fall of industries, because what the world has demanded for commodities has changed.

Most people certainly seem to have bought into the idea their self-esteem and happiness has more to do with their ability to consume than anything else.

Value is also determined by scarcity which is often caused by humans in nature.

Sure capitalism works but its running hard into many of the same brick walls of reality that communism did and it probably can't see very many of them before it does for much the same reasons. The problem you and Morris seem to be having is making the link between the growth of human economies and shrinking of natural ecosystems. You have to want to I guess. If everyone just puts it off until they have to it'll probably be too late. Maybe its of some consolation to you that communists have been unable to make the link either but it doesn't surprise me in the least they haven't.

Price is what will correct it, if you can't afford it you can't cansume it, and will either do without, or find a cheaper alternative.

You can not keep making something out of nothing forever. The same as the communists attempted to make something into nothing in a vain attempt to create equality. We have reached the end of the illusion. Speaking candidly to a banker many years ago I stated "you have nothing and are as poor as I" - He did not disagree. Money is a religion - this belief system can not be abandoned. People must believe in money again - and the only real currency is humanity. We must belief in our selves and all doubt of success must be immediately abandoned - the power of the human heart - spirit and mind must not fail us now. These amazing human attributes were granted by God - to stop believing in God is to stop believing in ourselves - It is a contract - honour it or face poverty.
