bush_cheney2004 Posted September 8, 2008 Author Report Posted September 8, 2008 If you want the war to end & all U.S. soldiers to leave, why would you vote to actually INCREASE the # of troops there? Who says we want to leave....been in Japan, Korea, and Germany for over 50 years. You should see our big new shiny embassy in Baghdad! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Moonlight Graham Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Who says we want to leave....been in Japan, Korea, and Germany for over 50 years. You should see our big new shiny embassy in Baghdad! Embassy fine, if the Iraqis want it there. But no permanent military bases. But i guess an embassy would be a military base in disguise, right? While randomly searching just now i came across an article from foxnews.com from 2005 where McCain says he wants permanent military bases in Afghanistan: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,148311,00.html Dont know whether he's changed his tune since then, but perm. military bases would be so entirely stupid. Much of the reason Al-Qaeda & other militant muslims wish to attack the U.S. & allies is for its military presense in Muslim countries, which apparently is against Islam. When will we learn??? Americans don't like 767's illegally parking in tall buildings either, but so what? Since when do we give a damn what Al Qaeda wants? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Moonlight Graham Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 (edited) Americans don't like 767's illegally parking in tall buildings either, but so what? Since when do we give a damn what Al Qaeda wants? Its not just Al-Qaeda, its a substancial portion of the muslim population. Lucky for us most of them don't care enough to plot & train to fly planes into our buildings. edit: i wonder when we in the West will admit that maybe, maybe...maybe some this angst against us from the middle east is partly our own fault? That will be the day when "the war on terror" may actually come to an end (minus the odd crazy loon). That's right...and the rest who do care will be dragged kicking and screaming into at least the 20th century. edit: i wonder when we in the West will admit that maybe, maybe...maybe some this angst against us from the middle east is partly our own fault? That will be the day when "the war on terror" may actually come to an end (minus the odd crazy loon). Of course it's our own fault...we are "the West".....and that is not going to change. Ergo, there will be conflict...may the best "civilization" win. Wanna buy some Mohammed cartoons? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

That you concede to a war of civilizations between West & Middle-East, such as that which is occuring more feverishly everyday? I think we can do better than that. Please articulate what that might look like given the past, present, and future. And it's not just the Middle East.....history tells us that there is plenty of dead company for anyone who won't get with the program.
