  1. Ahh, the Quebecois spirit of compromise. Gotta love it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If I were living in Alberta like both of my children, and my grand-children, what's to keep them in Canada? A federal government that believes Canada starts at the Ontario?Manitoba border, and ends at the Quebec/ New Brunswick border. Most of the Provinces need not exist since Ottawa ignores us anyway> As for elections, they are decided by Ontario, so the rest of us might as well not even vote. We need a major shakeup in this country, and in order for all Canadian's to be equal, we need to have equal representation from each province and territory. The way it stands now Ontario holds more seats that all of Altantic Canada put together, and the same goes for the Western Provinces. We need equal representation in Parliament, an Equal and elected Senate, or abolish it, and we need to make the judiciary accountable to the people who pay their salaries, namely the people of Canada. On second thought maybe we should just abolish Parliament, The Senate, the Governor General and all of their provincial counterparts and just elect the judiciary. This would solve all of our problems with the present system, and it would make the judiciary accountable. After all Paul Martin has already stated that, as far as he's concerned the Supreme Court is the FINAL SAY in this country, so let's make them accountable for their decisions. It definitely will make them less pompous and arrogant.
  2. Now who payed for this poll to be conducted? Polls are like statistics, they are usually worded in a way to get the most favourable response favouring whoever paid for the poll to be conducted. In this case I would suspect that the poll was paid for by either the Liberal's or the NDP themselves. The Liberal's will use any method to put the PC's in a bad light because they know they are the only Party that can unseat them from power. As for the NDP, they have shown what they are made of, and stand for. They stand for thievery and corruption just as does The Bloc, because it was those two Parties that kept Martin and the Liberal's from being defeated on a non-confidence vote. Layton has lost whatever credibility he had.
  3. No my defence was all media outlets make 'wrong' editorial calls about stories all of the time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The truth is that the CBC owes it well being to our tax dollars and if they know what's good for them they had better not publish anything anti Liberal, including this inappropriate appointment. The fact is that now this appointment is tainted with the stick of not only separatist links but alos links to former FLQ members, including Paul Rose. Therefore this appointment should be repealed, since it doesn't seem to even have the support of the people of Quebec. It is quite common for the CBC to slam every other political Party but, they seem to take a kid-glove approach with any story involving inappropriate actions by the Liberal Party of Canada or any of it's members. Are they biased? I think so!
  4. Who are you kidding? All our Armed Forces together couldn't protect P.E.I. from invasion from New Brunswick. Our military is a pathetic skeleton of it's former self, thanks to successive governments, especially Liberal governments dominated by PM's from Quebec. Why are we worried about a lousy island off the north-western coast of Greenland, which we also don't own, when we have far more pressing problem to worry about like homelessness, and our own children going to bed without enough food in their stomach's. More than 15 years ago the Canadian Government made a committment to eliminate child poverty by year 2000, and here it is 2005 and the probelm is just getting worse. This is a national disgrace for a country as rich as Canada. $Billions are wasted every day on frivilous endeavors and our government is worried about an island that doesn't matter anyway. It is simply a way for government to divert attention away from their own corruption and incompetence.
  5. I heard a speculation on the news that the Liberal's may be setting themselves up for defeat before tha Gomery Report is released, and then blame the PC's for not allowing the report ot be made public first. I beleive that the Liberal's want to hang onto power by any means, and I would put nothing past them. I support the Liberal Leader provincially, but I have made it quite plain that my vote will certainly not be cast for a Liberal federally.
  6. Actually you are quite wrong in your opinion about Christians being accepting of SSM. Anglican have not accepted the concept, only a few parishes have done so. In fact they and the Anglican Church in the US that elected an openly gay Bishop has been asked not to attend the World Church Conference. The mass of all faith's is not accepting at all, including most Christian denominations, Buddists, Islam, Jews, Hindu. In fact our External Affairs Minister has warned Gay and Lesbian couples from Canada to use caution when travelling, because homosexuality in many countries is against the law, punishable by arrest, imprisonment, lashing, or even the death penalty in certain countries. So you are dead wrong in your assertions that churches in Canada will soon accept the gay lifestyle choice. The Supreme Court and the Parliament of Canada can pass all the laws they want, but when people are brought up to believe that Marriage is the union of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others, no law is going to change that mindset. Although there is pleasure in the act of sex, the real reason for the act is to reproduce the species, and that is not possible for two people of the same gender, whether it be wild animal or human. The truth is that no amount of sex between two members of the same gender is ever going to produce an offspring. According to Census figures the United Church has lost 8% of their members since 1999. In my city the United Church who married a gay couple a few years ago, lost over 90% of their congregation and they wound up selling the building. They now meet in a small room in a former paper-bag factory, and all of them are either gay or supporters of the gay lifestyle choice.. So much for being accepted by the United Church.
  7. From my perspective, I believe our Supreme Court Justices should eb elected by the people, since they semm to be making the laws in this country it only stands to reason that they should be held accountable for those decisions by someone, and why not the people of Canada? After all it is us that are expected to live with these decisions in the long run. We have this unelected and aunaccountable body demanding that Parliament change laws, and not only change them but these judges instruct our elected parliamentarians how the law is to read, and that is not democracy, that is dictatorship, pure and simple. It is not bad enough that these unaccountable appointees are ordering our elected officials around, but our elected officails are jsut shrugging their shoulders and telling us that they have no choice but to follow the orders given. We may as well be living in Cuba, North Korea, China or some other totalitarian state, if this is how our coutry is going to be run. We need real reform in this country and it certainly isn't going to spring from the "Charter", since this is apparently where the judiciary had derived their power. We can change our government, but as long as we have an unelected and unaccountable judiciary continuing to make the rules, nothing is going to change. We need to scarp the "Charter, and strip power away from the judiciary, in order to effect change.
  8. As if she can or will represent the Crown. She was not even Canadian born, and comes from a French speaking country, so as far as I'm concerned she cannot represent the Crown of England, which is what the Governor General's job is supposed to be all about. It is supposed to be above the Parliament of Canada, not to be merely a ceremonial trapping of a bygone era, and should be held by someone loyal to the Crown of England. If it cannot be that, then it is time to do away with the position, and save the Canadian taxpayer $millions per year in wasted money. As someone else has pointed out in this thread, the post of G.G. has become just another expensive rubber stamp for government policy, just like our Senate. This post should be abolished as just another expensive trapping from a bygone era, or put it back to it's original prominance of being able to be above political interfereence. Right now all it has become is a position filled by a political hack who is willing to go along with government policy, just like our outdated Senate.
  9. I am from New Brunswick, and we certainly had our fill of McKenna when he was Premier. He virtually destroyed healthcare in our Province, increased every tax he could lay his hand's on, and then left, before we had a chance to kick his ass to the curb. That said, we now have a P.C. Premier in Bernard Lord, and we thought McKenna was bad, well he doesn't hold a candle to Bernie, who has suceeded in finsihing the job McKenna started. He has become so inventive that he now doesn't call them taxes anymore he call them fees, and has invented quite a few since he was elected to office, and then turned around an increased them. Thank God the people of this Province have gotten fed up with Bernie and are about to turf him to the curb at the first opportunity. To think people were actually stupid enough to talk in terms of Prime Minister for both McKenna and Bernard Lord. VERY SCARY!
  10. They just may as well add another loud mouth to their fold, who cares! I wouldn't vote for them regardless. They are too corrupt, and not trustworthy, besides that fact, ramming legislation down our throats that the majority of Canadian's do not want, specifically C-38.
  11. I had always voted NDP. but never again! If Jack Layton was double-crossed by his crooked friends in the Liberal it serves him right for supporting them. If Canadians are naive enough to believe that any revelations or finger-pointing with come from the Gomery report they are dumber than I thought. Gomery is going to present a benign report that points fingers at no politician who was behind the scenes giving the order as to where to spend the sponsorship money. Martin will then wave it around and say, See Gomery didn't find one LIberal culpable in the misappropriation of taxpayer's money. If anything it will attach blame to some scapegoat in the civil service, likely someone that had already pleaded guilty or was found guilty. This Inquiry was nothing but a whitewash. The other reason for not voting either Liberal or NDP is their stance on SSM.
  12. Funny how Quebec leads the race followed closely by Ontario. That is probably because Quebec seems never to be satisfied with they are given. Unlike the rest of Canada who sends their payroll taxes to Ottawa, Quebec makes damn sure that the feds never get their hands on this money. Included in these taxes are QPP (the equivalent to CPP), and Income Tax funds. The other Provinces are stupid enough to send this money to Ottawa and then go begging for whatever portion the feds choose to send back. In the cxase of Quebec they doin't send it in the first place and still demand back what they haven't given in the first place. Not too many years ago Quebec was one of the "Have Provinces," but ever since theri threat to leave Canada and many corporate head offices packed up and left LaBelle Province, they have become a "Have-Not Province." I think it is time that instead of the feds paying them money and moving federal offices into Quebec, it is time they moved those offices to Provinces that want to remain part of Canada. As for Ontario, they have made the rest of Canada feel irrelavent because of their ability to control the federal agenda through the sheer numbers of MP's compared to the rest of Canada. The only cure for that is to change the structure of Parliament, and way we elect politicians in Canada. We need to go to a system where each Province & Territory has exactly the same numbers of MP's, say five (5) from each Province, abolish the appointed Senate and either don't replace it, or replace it with an elected representatives. The present way we have is not fair since it is completely irrelevent how the people of Atlantic Canada or Western Canada vote because the whole election is decided by one Province. The Province's joined Canada as equal partners in Confederation, but somehow that concept fell off the rails.
  13. I think it is high time that we stop this corporate push to control the world by making the whole globe into their private marketplace. Free trade deals have done nothing to spread democracy. In fact Canada itself has lost much of our own democracy by allowing our government's to sign onto and adopt the corporate agenda. We have lost untold numbers of jobs to third world countries that continue to remain virtual dictatorships, including countries like China and North Korea, yet these corporate types still persue their agenda of converting the whole world into their private revenue generator. Canada is certainly not better off, we instead losing our own independence to corporations, and their puppet governments. The bottom line is that these countries are not going to chnage the way they treat their own people, regardless of how many jobs get outsourced to them. THey instead end up working long hours in sweatshops for little compensation and the U.N. just chooses to thurn a blind eye, and pretend that everything is just rosy.
  14. Get real, if a similar allegation was dug up about a Liberal MP the conservatives would have been howling for blood - their entire political strategy is based on convincing the public the Liberals are corrupt and the Conservatives are not. This is why the Grewal story is relevant: it contradicts the public image the the Conservatives are trying to manufacture. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> THe truth here is that the Liberal's have been proven to be corrupt with testimony after testimony. If anyone really expects that Gomery is going to point fingers at a Liberal Minister or former Minister that is simply not going to happen, because the mandate itslf handed out by Martin to Gomery under I believe section (J) is not going to allow that to happen. That inquiry was simply a white-wash, just that Martin had no idea that the revalations would be quite so damning. Irregardless of that all that came out at Gomery was allagations and denials, no real facts were presented and Gomery is allowed to make a report on facts only! I have no doubt that when the Gomery report is released, Martin will wave it in the air and say, Quote from an article in Canadian Free Press: "See Gomery couldn't convict anyone in the Liberal Party." Martin will then expect that this scandal will just go away, and die a quiet death. Never mind the fact that $millions of taxpayer's dollars were misappropriated by Liberal MP"s and Liberal appointed bureaucrats. The bottom line is they are still just a bunch of thieves and liars, from the PM on down.
  15. Are you really naive enough to believe it isn't already here, especially with the revalations that our own federal government has been contracting private-for-profit healthcare services for Member's of Parlaiment, the RCMP, and our Military, while at the same time acting as if he (Martin) is the saviour of Medicare in Canada? What a joke on all Canadians, and many of us were stupid enough to believe that Martin really cares about the health of individual Canadians, so you marched our like good littel puppets and made your mark beside the Liberal candidate's name in your particular riding.I was alive before Medicare, and I do remember my requiring expensive medication for asthema when I was a child, but the big difference between tehn and now is that most people were employed in full-time jobs, that provided healthcare, and prescription coverage to their employees. Our successive governments have allowed multinational corporations for ship much of our full-time work off-shore, and substitute a workplace where medical coverage is no longer the norm for employees, because many are working two and three part-time or term positions which provides no benefits, and low wages. The signage of the FTA, and NAFTA has all but sdealed our destiny as not much better than third world status. The corporate agenda seems not to be to escalate wages and benefits of third world countries up to Western standards, but instead to bring wages and benefits down to the lowest common denominator, to allow them to maximize profits. Keep us all grateful just to have a job at all. That's the corporate way.
  16. Nothing would surprise me coming from Martin and team. It would even surprise me if Martin were to name a francophone, separatist from Quebec to the post of G.G.. We may as well have a separatist GG, and maybe that will destroy the myth that this once esteemed office actually does something besides rubber stamp decision made by our appointed, and unaccountable judiciary. After all most of the legislation of late has come from decisions made by this unelected body. It will also show quite clearly that The Senate is also just another useless group of appointed individual's who have outlived their usefullness. They too have become just another rubber stamp for a PM and a Parliament that takes their marching orders from the judiciary. When all is said and done we would be far better off to disband this whole lot and instead elect the judiciary to specific fixed terms in office. At the very least it would make them accountable to the people of Canada who are expected to pay their exorbitant salaries.
  17. Are you really that dumb to think that somehow Canada is immune to being attacked by radical terrorists, especially islamic radicals. These people have referred to all of Western society as infidals, and calls for their elimination. Do you really think that these people can tell the difference between American, Canadian or British citizens? THey don't, nor could they care less. Canada was named by El Quida as a target country, so we shouldn't be sitting smuggly by and thinking that this can't happen here.
  18. This just goes to show that Harper is following the teachings of his religious beliefs, and I would expect nothing less, and that is more than I can say for Martin who only in 1999 supported a motion to retain the traditional definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others. Now in 2004 seeing some political gain to be had and wanting to take the spotlight off of his involvement in the Sponsorship Fraud of which he was part, he does a flip-flop and now his Catholic upbringing goes out the window to appease a small vocal minority. His changing his tune is having repercussions right across Canada. I know that polls conducted by Liberal friendly polling companies, and the Ottawa spin doctors in the Press Corp, favour the Liberal's, and why wouldn't they, the Liberal's are theri bread and butter. CBC alone relies on billions of taxpayer's dollars every year to survive. If not for that steady stream of money coming from the taxpayer's of this country the CBC would disappear very quickly. The Ottawa Press Gallery is very quick to point out anyting that is in the least controversial regarding the CPC, but when it comes to Liberal Party scandals they seem to put a positive light on it. I think that Martin and the Liberal are going to find out when they go to the polls that the silent majority are very unhappy especially over Bill C-38, and both the Liberals and the NDP stand to lose considerable support, regardless of what the polls show. Just remember most of those polls are being paid for by the Liberal Party, adn there is a good cahnce that in a round about way, knowing how this government works, we the taxpayers are paying this bill.
  19. My God! Are we talking about Nazi Germany during the reign of Hitler or present day Canada? Hard to tell the difference.
  20. Let's hope not, ever!
  21. Now if this were say Egypt, she would have been executed long, long time ago. The problem of her release or the release of someone like Karl Toft simply would not happen. It also would not happen south of the border in the U.S.A. not even in states that do not have the death penalty. THey would have sentenced her to consecutive life terms. Life meaning natural life or 99 years. In Canada our justice system has lost all credibility. I do not condone the death penalty for serious crime, but when someone is sentenced to life, it should mean life, not a chance to be out in 15 years, that is not a life sentence. Jusat the same as sentencing someone to community time (House Arrest) is not incarceration, it is simply a way for government to cut the costs of running our justice system, but it certainly has not made society any safer, in fact just the opposite has happened. Canada's justice system has become a laughing stock, and it's time that some justice and punishment be put back into the system. Rehabilitation is for those that want it, and no amount of programs willcan rehabilitate a person, that has to come from within, and the fact that they simply do not want to spend their lives behind bars. Unfortunately in Canada we have done away with the concept of bars in many cases and the concept of being responsibe for stupid choices, we prefer to blame it on anyone but the person who committed the offence, usually that anyone is society.
  22. Yes she sould get exactly the same protection as anyone else, which is none, unless an actual crime is committed. If what she wants is granted we could be saddled with a huge bill for something that is only hypothetical. Nobody has made any attempt on her life yet, and until they do she should not be entitled to a personal police guard. If she is then we need one for every potential victim. Of course on the other side of that coin, if that type of preventitive protection had been available 12 years ago, Karla & Paul would not have killed three innocent young women.
  23. The same could to said for members of our Liberal Cabinet, and their supporters. Anyone who believes a word that comes from these liars and thieves deserves the government they choose. Martin and team will do or say anything to hold onto power, and it is the gullible who are asinine enough to believe them. Someday you will wake up and private, for-profit healthcare will be all that is available, and Martin will sit on his hands and say there was nothing he could do because the Supreme Court told him so. We are going to wind up with American style healthcare whether we like it or not, and Martin is not going to do one thing to stop it. Why would he? He probably has shares in one of those companies in his blind trust.
  24. Although the Government of New Brunswick refuses to admit since declaring New Brunswick as the "Officially Bilingual is the fact that bilingualism has now become duality, and it has created segregation based on language right across the Province. Another thing that it has caused is a mass exodus of Anglo New Brunswicker's to more Anglo friendly friendly Provinces like Ontario, Alberta and BC. Most provincial jobs and many private industry jobs in NB are now designated as "Bilingual Essential," which effectively means that if your "Mother-tongue" is not French , do not apply, since it is specified as Fluency in French required. We have a French Immersion Program throughout the Province, but even our former Acadian Education Minister stated; "The French Immersion Program in NB was not designed nor expected to produce fluently bilingual graduates." That being the case most graduates from these programs, upon graduation are classified as "Functionally Bilingual", a classification that is not sufficient to gain employment in most bilingual designated jobs. Most of our young Anglo graduates have left the Province and have no reason to return. Acadian's who gained employment in these bilingualally designated position because of their supposed ability to speak both languages fluently, and now demanding that provisions be made for them to be able to work exclusively in the French language. They are upset that client's and co-workers speak English and they resent the fact that they have to work in an English environment even though they were hired to work as bilingual employees. The Provincial Government of NB would have the rest of Canada believe that bilinguaism is a huge success, but the reality is quite different. An example of this just happened in Saint John, with a declared French population of 6.9%, demanded and received a French Medical Clinic be set up in the Samuel de Champlain Cultural Centre through the local Healthcare Corporation. With a grant fromHeritage Canada a grant of $360,000.00 was allotted for the hiring of a French speaking doctor and support staff. Ongoing financial support will come from the Saint John Regional Hospital and the Healthcare Corporation even though one of our ER's in the city had to be cut back drastically due to lack of staff to man it, and the existing hospital is staffed by bilingual personnel. Obviously they don't want an English speaking medical professional who is bilingual to look after their medical needs, they need to somehow be made to feel elite. I feel sorry for any Province or Territory who is tempted to go down this road called bilingualism, because that alone will not be enough to satisfy French speaking people. They do not want builingualism they want French only.
  25. This job is just a reward for service to the Liberal Party of Canada. I was not impressed by McKenna when he was Premier of the Province of New Brunswick, that province I call home. 99% of the problems with Medicare in New Brunswick were caused by McKenna's policy of slash and burn. He not only destroyed Medicare in NB, but every program he tinkered with he slased to the bone both financially, and personnel wise. The peole that were left wound up beurnt out from overwork and that was when our doctors started leaving for greener pastures. Conservatives need not take heart with the above because Bernard Lord made great promises when in opposition, but since taking power all we have gotten is more of the same, only he is making cut when there was nothing left to cut when he took office, but he cuts anyway, and raised every fee we had and added many more that we didn't have, but he keep trying to convince the people of NB, that he is doing a great job. I think when an election is called we will show Brenard just what we think of his dictatorial style of government by showing him where the swinging door is, and giving him a swift boot on the way out. To think The Conservative Party was touting him as good leadership material, when the truth is he isn't qualified to dump pick. Sorry if I insulted any dump picker's out there. I was going to say not qualified to be a dog catcher, but then they too would be insulted, by being compared to this incompetent.
