http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/the-b-c-pipeline-project-you-ve-never-heard-of-and-why-it-may-succeed-1.4646892 As the federal government killed Northern Gateway with their tanker ban in order to protect the "Great Bear Rainforest", a name created by San Fransisco environmentalists while sipping wine in 1997, a Northern Gateway 2.0 pipeline is underway that will bypass the BC coast and instead go through Alaska. I guess the people in Hyder, Alaska will get the jobs instead of the people in Kitimat, BC.

Gender inequality talk is starting to annoy people
-1=e^ipi replied to Argus's topic in Sex and Gender Issues
Yes. 2:1 ratio of female to male students in universities. Clearly, everything is fine. Giant puzzle as to why the ratio is so female favoured. It's almost like the gender that is pushed and encouraged the most in schools to excel academically, the gender that has the most gender-specific academic programs to help that gender excel, and the gender that has the most access to university scholarships is doing better. Nah, that couldn't possibly be, we live in a patriarchy after all. -

Actually, it is the opposite. http://www.pnas.org/content/112/17/5360 -
Gender inequality talk is starting to annoy people

Question: Suppose that there are no on average nature-based differences in preferences or behaviour between men and women. Does that mean that all the transgender people that go on different hormones and tell us that those hormones affect their behaviour and preferences are liars? Why do gender-preference-deniers hate transgendered people? -
With respect to that... He is Armenian. Does that count as white? What about Turk, Iranian or Northern Indian. Because sometimes I see these ethnicities referred to as white and other times I see them referred to as "people of colour". Same with Elliot Rodger. He is half asian, but is referred to as white by the media. Yet often I see the media refer to half asian people as "people of colour". Barrack Obama is also half white, but is never referred to as white. It is all very confusing. In any case, this terrorist attack doesn't seem to have much to do with race. Rather, it is related to the incel ideology.

No, he hated women too. Especially the women who rejected him.

I wouldn't say there have been no discussions. I made a status update on this. "Awful terrorist attack in Toronto by an idiot who felt entitled to sex"

Awful terrorist attack in Toronto by an idiot who felt entitled to sex

This sense of entitlement is getting out of hand. These men (like his hero - never heard of him), are more than pathetic.
First time i ever heard of "Incel" - involuntary celibacy.
Of course, it was good fantacising about his arrest! Arrested by a female cop, and she blew his "d***" off, and her cool line: "Now, you're definitely celibate."

Bernier claims Scheer won due to Dairy Cartel

Bernier claims Scheer won due to Dairy Cartel

Almost the entire conservative party is bad with respect to climate change. Harper, Bernier and Scheer. Scheer and Harper will pretend to believe in climate change while being against all mitigation policies except extremely vague "work with industry" claims which means nothing. Bernier has claimed he has doubts about climate change, but at least he is honest about that. The most economically efficient way to reduce emissions is through a tax on CO2 emissions. But the economically-illiterate conservative party is against that and make the ridiculous claim that CO2 emission taxes have zero impact of CO2 emissions. -

QueenMandy, let's just establish a few things since you go on and on about the electability of Scheer. 1. Scheer is Harper 2.0. He ran on a platform that the conservatives need to change absolutely nothing with respect to policy during the leadership race. If Harper lost to Scheer, why would it make sense to choose Harper 2.0? Scheer can only win if Trudeau does things that make him unpopular (which he is currently doing). 2. Scheer is a social conservative. He doesn't want gay people to marry and doesn't want women to be allowed to have abortions. The is extremely alienating to a lot of voters and makes him less electable. Maxime Bernier, on the other hand, isn't a social conservative and instead supports freedom. With respect to social issues, Scheer is the far-right extremist. 3. I'm not an conservative and no way I'm voting for Scheer (or Trudeau). I'd vote for Bernier but not Scheer. You on the other hand would vote for either. The people who think that Scheer is more electable than Bernier are generally those in the conservative party who are stuck inside their bubble. -

He's not chipping away at the Grits. Rather, Trudeau is alienating a lot of people and losing voters. -
Climate is the statistical distribution of weather. Thus it is easier to predict than weather itself. Similarly, if you flipped a fair coin 1 million then we can expect with extremely high probability that roughly 50% of the coin flips would be heads. However, we would have no ability to predict an individual coin flip (weather). Objects tend to emit electromagnetic radiation depending on how hot they are. I emit radiation, you emit radiation, the sun emits radiation, the earth emits radiation, etc. There are different types of electromagnetic radiation including x-rays, gamma rays, ultraviolet light, visible light, infrared radiation, microwaves and radiowaves; what distinguishes these types of radiation is the frequency (i.e. colour) of the radiation. The hotter something is, the more electromagnetic radiation it will emit (unless we are dealing with radioactive materials, which is another issue) and also the higher the frequency (i.e. more blue/violet and less red) the radiation will be. The Earth emits electromagnetic radiation, however because the Earth isn't very hot, this radiation is infrared and we can't see it. The sun, is much hotter than the Earth so it's radiation is primarily visible light, which we can see. Ever turn on an electric stove and notice that it starts to glow red as it gets hotter? This is the relevant effect. Different types of gasses have different properties. Some gases might be completely transparent to some types of radiation, but opaque to others. By opaque, I mean that the gas will have a high chance of absorbing a photon of light if the light tries to pass through the gas. The reason for these properties is due to the properties of the individual molecules in the gas, but to explain these properties you have to go into quantum mechanics. Greenhouse gases for Earth are those gases that are transparent to visible light yet opaque to infrared radiation. CO2 is a good example, because if you look at the properties of CO2, it is very transparent to visible light. CO2 tends to absorb infrared radiation around 15 μm very well. When you add more CO2 to the atmosphere, this will not really affect light traveling from the sun to the Earth, since that light tends to be visible; thus the light from the Sun will pass through the atmosphere and warm the surface. In order to cool-off from receiving all this energy from the Sun, the Earth must radiate energy out into space. The surface of the Earth emits infrared radiation which travels towards space. However, if we add more CO2, then there is a higher chance that this energy won't reach outer space and will instead be absorbed by the atmosphere. The atmosphere will then re-emit some of that absorbed energy back towards the Earth's surface. The net effect is that the Earth's surface warms.

Bernier claims Scheer won due to Dairy Cartel
-1=e^ipi replied to -1=e^ipi's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They lost leadership contests, not general elections. Leadership contests are more easily swayed by special interest groups (such as 10,000+ dairy farmers signing up) compared to general elections. -
Do the math. The impact of burning of fossil fuels & nuclear energy on global temperature is only ~0.01 C. It's small. The effect of greenhouse gases are much more important. That is a fairy tale from a book of fairy tales.

Martha Hall Findlay ran on a platform that included abolishing supply management in the 2013 liberal leadership race and came 3rd. Australia abolished supply management. New Zealand abolished supply management. It seems that all of these parties in other countries can run on platforms that include abolishing supply management and win. Why is Canada so different? -

It's what it represents. Should the government act in the best interests of it's citizens? Or should the government be bought out by special interest groups at the expense of the people? And also, with respect to the politicians that are stupid enough to believe that supply management is good due to the propaganda of the cartel, shouldn't our elected politicians who make issues that affect our economy not have a better better understanding of economics than they currently have? -
Maxime Bernier claims that Andrew Scheer won the leadership race with 50.95% of the vote due to 'fake conservative' people from the dairy cartel buying conservative memberships in order to block the elimination of the dairy cartel known as supply management. This is from a newly released chapter from Maxime Bernier's planned book for November. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-mp-maxime-bernier-says-scheer-won-tory-leadership-thanks-to-fake/ For those who don't know, the dairy cartel is an awful system that makes consumers, including poor people, suffer and pay twice as much for milk, eggs and poultry in order to create trade disputes with other countries and prevent long term resolutions to trade disputes such as the softwood lumber dispute with the United States. It also makes it difficult for farmers to enter the 'protected' industries as they have to cough up tens of thousands of in order to buy a quota just so that the government gives them permission to own a single milk cow. Here is a video of the arrogant Andrew Scheer showing he serves the dairy cartel at the expense of the Canadian people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4XP5_qzBuk#t=5m40s

Freedom to buy and sell eggs, sperm and surrogacy services.
-1=e^ipi replied to -1=e^ipi's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I'm mostly fine with that honestly. My main concern is public hygiene (Ex. if someone sits of a public bus naked). The first would destroy property rights. The second would destroy the ability to run a government and create anarchy. Are you really equating these to giving freely consenting adults the right to exchange sperm and eggs for money? -

I doubt it. There are some feminists that view legalizing this as 'exploiting women'. As a result Trudeau is personally conflicted and doesn't fully support getting the government out of our pants. -
Finally, some good news from the federal government. Hopefully they legalize it all (along with drugs and prostitution) to give people more freedom and get the government out of our pants (or skirts). http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-says-it-s-time-for-canada-to-debate-decriminalizing-fees-for-surrogate-moms-1.4605201 https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/trudeau-it-s-time-to-talk-about-lifting-ban-on-paying-sperm-egg-donors-1.3871380

The None of the Above Party currently has candidates for 40% of Ontario's ridings and will likely have even more as the Ontario election approaches. Here is their website: https://nota.ca/ The party's main goal is to improve democracy. Thoughts? Personally, I think this party is wonderful and unless there is a better small party in my riding, I will vote for them.
