Ultimately, they lost because the NDP vote collapsed.
-
Don't expect that to be a position which will resonate within the new government of Canada, as controlled from Quebec.

Rempel is too young and inexperienced.

I think his significant advantage is he's done well in the cabinet posts he's been placed in, and developed good working relationships with the opposition. That in itself would seem to suggest his inclnations do not run in the same direction as Harper's. I think what he needs to do first is make it clear to caucus as well as to any potential recruits that a Kenney government would not be a micromanaging one, that other cabinet ministers would have real power and that both they and caucus members would have a degree of freedom to speak their own minds. Though obviously there needs to be a central message and it wouldn't help the party if individuals start saying things too contrary to that message.

Predict how Canada will look like in 4 years

If you murder someone for kicks, or because you were angry, that's second degree murder. If you murder them for sexual purposes that's first degree. -

And you seem hell bent on doing everything in your power to prevent any social disapproval from falling on cultural beliefs which see women as disposable chattel. -

Motive is also a primary component in what charges are laid. -

We have ALWAYS used motive to govern how our laws are applied. -

It's sad that purported feminists will stretch truth to the breaking point to defend those with cultural and religious motives for murdering women. -

Just more heavily in debt. -
When did the Left become so paranoid it began to see ulterior motives in every single thing everyone else did or said?

What is my view of Trudeau? And how have I represented it as being the same as 'wide swathes of Canadians"? My point is merely that you are heavily partisan and yet are criticizing those who are heavily partisan.

Most don't vote for them anyway. Diefenbaker won a majority with heavy support from Quebec, though.

Left wing voters would only vote for the "Conservative" party if it had no onservative policies, in which case Right wing voters would drop them like they did the dreadful PCs. The Conservatives don't need a liberal leader. They need a conservative with a lot more communication skills and a friendlier attitude than Harper had. Right now, Jason Kenney is the clear front runner there.

A liberal, in other words.

Fractured was probably the wrong word to use. Heavily accented will do. Anglos are used to hearing heavily accented English. From what I've seen and read Francophones are not nearly so forgiving of their beloved language.

Trudeau's Coming Battle with the Conservative Senate
Scotty replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm not sure what you're talking about. Do you? It looks like you're reading into things that people on the right are calling for the Senate to overturn or block Trudeau legislation. Do you have the slightest shred of evidence to support that? -
Trudeau's Coming Battle with the Conservative Senate
Scotty replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Is it normal for the opposition to pass a bill over the wishes of the government? No. Is it legal. Yes. Is it legal for the Senate to do what it did? Yes. So what's your problem? -
Things to look forward to as a result of the election
Scotty replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Trudeau will most certainly have to raise taxes in order to pay for his promises. In fact, one of his promises is a carbon tax or some variant, which is a tax in itself, of course. -

Scotty replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
More importantly, it was assumed those in lower brackets were already likely to vote Liberal or NDP. The tax break was designed to win votes from the middle class. Anyone who doesn't understand that 100% of the reason behind this was to secure votes is simply being dishonest with themselves. -

Scotty replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why would you ask that? You've already decided the 'top 3 or 4 in every department' have to go, even without any evidence any individual, let alone all of them, have done anything wrong. Collective punishment for an alleged bias which has not yet been demonstrated! Talk about brutally autocratic! -
The downfall of respected political discourse In Canada (and here)
Scotty replied to Scotty's topic in Media and Broadcasting
Having skimmed it, I don't believe that's true. The great mass of posts which were anti-niqab spoke about how it represented the misogyny of a certain political/social belief system, about how it deprives the women who wear it of personhood, about the disrespect it showed to Canada, etc. etc. The namecalling, no matter what opinion was expressed, was heavy, and I believe you were an enthusiastic part of that name calling. -
