  1. I would go further by saying it should only be used in hospitals. Because as noted, people often stop taking antibiotics when they feel better, which allows remnants of the infection within them to often survive and develop immunity to the drugs used against it.
  2. Do you know anything about 'the situation that now exists in Europe"? Have you ever been there?
  3. They might well have. Don't you think visible Jews get harrassed? What about fat people?
  4. So you're basically saying you want Communism here, where doing extra work, taking a chance on opening a new business, getting an education, doesn't matter at all because your money will just be taken away to give to those who couldn't bother. No thank yewww, comrade! Seen how that works out!
  5. From what I've read anyone who says bad things about the West.
  6. As far as I've seen drone strikes are usually in the desert somewhere, and have limited colateral damage. The only places we're bombing is the heart of ISIL, which is already in the middle of a war zone.
  7. He's countering your desperate need to exaggerate its importance.
  8. So you're saying no muslims were mugged prior to Paris?
  9. So what? What are you saying, we should be patient? We should wait five centuries or so? Not happening, bud. Not unless you agree they should all be cordoned off from today's world until they reform.
  10. And we should take into account that while it's nice to be generous, we should not be so generous that we harm ourselves as a society. It's very nice to give police and firefighters $100k pay cheques and terrific benefits, but it means we have to make do with less police and firefighting, less ambulances and paramedics than we'd get if we took the same money but paid them a more reasonable $70k, for example. Many Ontario jurisdictions struggle to meet the response times for police and ambulances despite sky high budgets. The same goes for teachers. It's nice to be generous, but teachers are approaching that $100k threshold too, in jobs which are so secure they're almost impossible to lose no matter how badly you perform them. That costs us in terms of having fewer teachers and more crowded classrooms.
  11. That would mean we'd have to be a lot more to garbagemen. Their jobs are, statistically, far more dangerous than police or firefighting. The most dangerous jobs are 1 loggers 2 fishermen 3 pilots 4 roofers 5 steelworkers 6 garbage collectors 7 power line workers 8 truck drivers 9 farmers 10 construction workers Police and firefighting simply are not that dangerous compared to other jobs, regardless of the aura which surrounds them. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/the-hot-button/and-the-top-10-most-dangerous-jobs-are/article16352517/
  12. I'm not a religious scholar but I would say the ones people are paying attention to and living their lives by came from the Koran and the ones people are pretty much ignoring came from the Bible.
  13. I don't live in Uganda. Their problems are their problems. They aren't exporting them to my section of the world.
  14. What you are referring to as western civilization took centuries of reform to come about. Religious reform was an intrinsic part of that, and there is no sign the Islamic world is interested in reforming the hateful messages in their religious books.
  15. It hardly matters. They all come from the same community. The question is why would Canada want to increase the size of that community here.
  16. As I said earlier in the thread, people are attacked every day for a variety of reasons. The media is simply waiting to pounce on any sign of prejudicial treatment of Muslims right now. The woman was robbed and her attackers said nasty things to her. That's unfortunate but hardly shocking. People who mug people are rarely polite.
  17. No, it can be readily solved with enough bombs. I don't get you people thinking it can't. If you kill enough asshats it solves the problem of too much asshattery every time. Education is neither our function nor do we have that ability. Nor is there any evidence that education divorces someone from fanatical beliefs in religion.
  18. Are you really going to demonstrate the absurdity of your position by equating the two?
  19. We stopped taking the bible seriously a long time ago. Their holy books are still their guides to life and society.
  20. You forgot the biggest problem. We have GROSSLY abused anti-biotics. Doctors have prescribed them for all kinds of things which they are ineffective against. We use them as broad spectrum protection for herds of animals. We use them in cleaning formulas for sprays and wipes. All of that should be made illegal. Use soap to clean your damned hands or kitchen counter, and make doctors only use them for infections which can't be combatted in other ways. We also need a crash program to develop new anti-bacterial agents but that won't help if we continue to spray these things around hither and yon wherever we feel they might be useful. If we have no antibiotics then common infections will start killing people, not just old and inform people but young and healthy people, and in much greater numbers.
  21. I have noticed you have a tendency to believe anything which says bad things about the West without much effort at validating it. It seems this group advocates for Iranian Khomeni style Islam and spends much of its time attacking liberal Muslims. http://blogs.new.spectator.co.uk/2015/03/the-islamophobe-of-the-year-event-reached-a-new-low-this-year/ The United Kingdom has a very robust set of laws and regulations protecting against racism of any sort. You can be arrested for hurling a racial epithet at someone, for example or posting something on your facebook page that is racist. It has its own human rights commissions, and this private group contributes nothing to their mission.
  22. Aren't the actions of virtually all politicians tightly bound up in what they think will be popular and gain them votes?
  23. The problem was we took on a job of culture change, and that is not something you finish up in a few years. The US spent decades changing Japan and South Korea. To say it was unwinnable is nonsense. Of course it was winnable, and easily winnable. What we lacked was the patience, because in this world of sound bytes and short attention spans we want instant fixes.
  24. When you say 'everyone' you mean people like you who have no military experience whatsoever, and very little idea of what is actually going on over there, right? Incompetent local government was how it was created. And it has not been expanding for some time now.
