  1. If I may assume the following is in defence of the American position in this particular thread..... .......then all I can say to reply is two words......Hiroshima, Nagasaki. Truly something for the USA to be proud of.
  2. Yes, the idea of a simple memorial to those dead on 9/11 is a fine sentiment. Pity the way it's been honored in this thread.
  3. So this entire thread is started off by a poll that says many Canadians believe USA foreign policy was a motivational force behind the 9/11 attacks. And this is called an insult to America from Canada. An opinion poll. At least it's not the Canadian government coming out and blaming the USA for all our problems. But on the other hand....... I guess it was okay for the USA to immediately point the finger of blame at Canada during the big power outage a few years ago, despite evidence to the contrary. I guess the thinking was that it MUST be Canada's fault, 'cause we be a backwards little liberal country that cain't know nothin' 'bout how 'lectricity works. Yup. But it was later proven that the domino effect began at a power facility in Michigan. But hey, it's politically expedient to blame Canada. And the 9/11 attackers must have come in to the USA through Canada. MUST be true, 'cause Canada's a backwards little liberal country that likes letting terrorist-types traipse freely across its borders without any serious security measures being taken. But then it came to light that some of these terrorists had been in the USA for years, and had actually taken flight training in the USA. But hey, it's politically expedient to blame Canada. The whole softwood lumber dispute was justified because the Canadian government was subsidizing our lumber industry. Except it was proven time and again that it just wasn't so. But hey, it's politically expedient to blame Canada. Why let the truth get in the way of of making a little political currency??? Whenever it suits the purpose of the US government to blame Canada, the fingers all start pointing north, so get over it. It happens on both sides of the border, and will continue to happen long after we're all gone.
  4. Not everyone has the courage and/or idiocy (which of these options you choose depends upon your belief in those who would inspire such individuals) to kill themselves whilst killing others. Maybe they've simply run out of people willing to die for their cause and this long delay is because of the time it is taking to find/train more. LIAM's points are all well made. There have, after all, been several attacks since 9/11, but they have been in other countries. The threat continues, but it is simply not quite the bogey-man that Bush and company would have us believe. Still, when dealing with a rabid dog, I suppose it is best to assume that the dog will try to bite you.
  5. I thought it was Howard...... Our Father, who art in Heaven, Howard be thy name......
  6. When Bush is gone perhaps???
  7. I cannot believe this thing is still going. I initially started the idea as a "Please shut up" to a now-banned member's insistence that anyone who criticized anything about the USA was a "USA hater". And now, it simply keeps going on and on and on...... Laughable, really.
  8. Okay, so the headline uses the word "Blame", yet the text says...... Before passing judgement on anyone, I would be interested to hear EXACTLY how the question was phrased. I mean, if people were asked "What factors do you feel contributed to the 9/11 attacks; choose 1 of the following..... 1) American foreign policy 2) The north American auto industry 3) The environment ......then it's pretty much a question loaded to lead to a specific end. Yes, I deliberately made the alternatives ludicrous, but that was simply to illustrate the point that a poll can be designed to deliberately come up with a specific result. Secondly, I would be interested to know who exactly hired the polling firm to conduct this so called "research". Until we know the answer to these questions, the poll itself is meaningless. Sorry to throw a damper on the more passionate arguments this thread has generated.
  9. Nonsense, I criticize him deservedly. This is the ONLY topic that I've been attacking his character on, and truth be told it was just a reaction to all of the ad hom posts I'd been seeing from the right. The whiners are most guilty of what they complain of. Interesting. But criticism can take many forms, and can usually be done without personal insults. In fact thay are generally more effective WITHOUT insults. Well thanks goodness we have the CBC to show the ugly side of Harper, and you to help them along. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=5901 Here you called him a "transparent manipulator". Not an attack on his character??? http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=6019 "Out of touch with reality". Not a character attack, but damn close to it. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=6158 Here you mention his "idiotic comments". Clearly implying that you think he is an idiot. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=6247 Here he was "complicit" in the creation of an oil-slick. Hard to figure out how when he was thousands of miles away and had no communication with the culprits responsible. But I guess he was "complicit" in the same way that a war protester is "resposible" for the deaths of troops. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=6197 In this thread you imply that he is ignorant, and in another post in the same thread you call him an imbecile. Keep in mind that this was all the result of a very quick search in which I looked only at threads you started, and never scanned beyond the first page of each thread, many of which had several pages. Suffice to say it is hardly a complete look at your anti-Harper postings, simply a smattering. In light of what I have provided above, it seems pretty personal to me. Harper ain't my favorite political character by far, but I can manage to make my feelings about him known without the schoolyard insults.
  10. No kidding. That dog could well be planting "doggy mines" anywhere around the schoolyard. Imagine the horror as kids step in these foul-smelling bombs. That stuff is not easy to wash off the soles of shoes.
  11. I guess existence of service dogs is not as well known as that of seeing-eye dogs. But that aside...... Presumably, in an school environment, there would be plenty of people around to help if he drops something or falls down or needs help with a door. "Jump through all these hoops" Gotta love it. It would, after all, be the parent acquiring the note, which would take about a full hour out of her life to go get, and would not be something that the kid has to deal with. But she makes it sound like an ongoing process of red-tape-cutting. How about "Taking a very small hop through one slightly inconvenient hoop". I don't see asking for a doctor's note as being too much of a stretch. After all, any kid can walk into class with a dog, and claim it's a service dog. In Cooper's case, it would be obvious that it is such, but where do you draw the line re who does or does not need such an aide. Doctor's note, IMHO, is not asking too much.
  12. NATIVECHARM: A good point, and well articulated. I agree wholeheartedly. We need more police from every ethnic group, not only native, but a more visible native populace among the police forces would definitely be an asset in dealing with young natives. TATTOODTREECEE: LOL. I can see your point, though personally I have never related pink hair and piercings with gang activity. Tattoos perhaps, but I cannot recall any threatening person who was into the more outrageous type of hairstyles, shaven-heads aside. If I see someone wearing gang colours, I tread carefully, but otherwise I simply consider all the things you've listed as personal fashion statements. SHRELLO: As Trecee so astutely pointed out, many people confuse appearance with intent. Those type of people coming upon a group of teenagers dressed in skateboard-chic style would probably feel threatened. Too bad, really, but that is simply the world in which we live.
  13. I was worried about Harper before the election, but since getting in he has done no worse than anyone else, and better than many. GERRY seems to have a personal grudge and simply refuses to acknowledge anything good might come out of Harper. Close-minded is an understatement.
  14. And then again, they may be exactly what they say, a couple kids hawking cellphones. I have met a few guys here in Canada doing something similar with stereo speakers. Gotta admit, cellphones are a lot smaller, and so you could pack a bigger profit margin into a van.
  15. Yet another thread made up of complete and utter bilge. We've all seen, in equal measure, banned Liberals saying it's a Tory board, and banned Tories saying it's a Liberal board. Perhaps all you people who are getting banned should be looking inward rather than outward to find the reasons behind your bans.
  16. MOCKINGBIRD: Before I comment in this thread, I would be interested in knowing why you are not employed, and why you are in need of help from the welfare system. Do you have some sort of debilitating condition???
  17. The tribes of the 3 sons of Abraham have been fighting for millenia. You really think anything done in the past, or the next, 30 years or so is going to prevent further warfare amongst these sects??? I think not.
  18. "The end is nigh" This has been heard for centuries. No one has been right about it yet.
  19. Good Morning, T-BAG: The funny thing is I actually agree with a lot of his views. But I have little tolerance for spam, and less for trolls, hence my ongoing ridicule of thse pathetic posts. The fact that his attempts at verse are so inept simply adds fuel to the fire.
  20. Actually, I have been at odds with GH on several occasions, and have posted appropriately. The difference is that GERRY posts something, and then sticks around and responds to people in the thread. Whether you like him or not, at least he is playing by common forum rules. This guy is simply spamming us. Just to make sure my facts are straight on this, I did a search on KILKEE's (Mr. BREDIN's) posts here. Here is the breakdown. 24 posts are poems, 22 of which never had any sort of follow up from him, nor did he address any comments in the threads in which these poems were posted. 12 posts were actually comments, although of these, a few were single sentences, so hardly fodder for debate. It is also noteworthy that 6 of the 12 comment posts happened on 2 days, May 6, and May 16. The last time our good antagonist actually posted a comment rather than a poem was on July 10. 1 post stand in what I would call "Other" category. The comment consists of "Who is the head guy in Islam?", followed by a link entitled "Advance Your Education Now". But when you click on the link, it takes you to Mr BREDIN'S blogsite. This thread is now in it's 3rd page, with something around a half dozen posts by BREDIN. But NONE of these are addressing anyone else's comments. ALL are simply more poems. You do the math. He is obviously not here to participate in, let alone further the level of, debate. You can see that my motivation here is not partisan based so much as it is fueled by annoyance and disgust with someone who is obviously misusing the forums. Additionally, the man's poetry is just plain bad. It displays, at best, a primary school level of literary competence.
  21. Actually, maybe this idea would have an impact. Our good (?) Mr Bredin has his own blog, address detailed in his signature. I checked it out VERY briefly (so I would not lose my breakfast) and found that the few poems I scanned had no replies. What if everyone here who is sickened by this nonsense start spamming his site with negative comments, just as he is spamming us with his vile verse???? Can't hurt to try. EDITED TO ADD: Crappy. To post a comment requires a login. Can't be bothered at the moment. We'll have to see just how much this guy gets my goat.
  22. Well, I do own a gun, but dammit, I do NOT know his address.
  23. Trying something new this time. Interspersed lined. An experiment in silliness.. Immigration and Terrorist Stuff (Another Reprise) By Pocket Rocket Why secret immigration hearings, do you suppose? To keep out silly goofballs who would disrupt proceedings! Is the justice system completely rigged by those? Only if your paranoid and toward bad verse you're leaning! Special interest crowd with their own hidden agenda, Or delusional right winger with overactive imagination! Published in their papers with their left-wing propaganda Or published on a website to torment a whole nation. Why is it so difficult to deport these terrorist types? But everyone's a terrorist to seomone with a tinfoil hat! Is it the Charter, their culture or their media hypes? None of the above, it's just some seriously twisted cat! Is it politicians who sold their souls to this or that crowd? Or a truly horrid poet of his own delusions proud! Claiming it’s secret stuff and has to be kept under a cloud "The sky is falling, the sky is falling" he shrieks out long and loud. Why can’t we just grab a terrorist and kick him out? I'm sure we could if there was concrete proof that's what he was! Though they all claim they’ll get tortured no doubt, Just like what you're doing with you're poetry, to us! Some claim they were born here though they’re adult male, You were born here after all, but adult you are not!!! Which gives them reason to stay here and get easy bail At least you're poetry seems to be penned by a teenage snot. Can we change Trudeau’s Charter or any of our laws? Another guy who screams for change, but does nothing to bring it!!! Caught in terrorist jaws as we listen to their applause? The only terror 'round these parts is this verse, I've reached my limit!!! Are we not aware that terrorism is a new form of war? And poetry like this is certainly a weapon of destruction!!! As they even bring their fights through the courtroom door. And get berated by a poet who can barely function!!! Where is our leadership or those who will explain? Why do you come here and ask this question of me??? Why some of us die in Afghanistan in great pain, Pick up your phone you may get a reply from your MP!!! Why can’t we seal ourselves off from this global mess? Because you can fence yourself in, but not the world out!!! No battlefield here but suicide bombers and distress All imagined by a tinfoil-hat wearing tory lout!!!!! Well, it may not be sensible, but it is fun. Next???
  24. The Death Penalty (Reprise) Pocket Rocket They banned capital punishment a long time ago, And that's quite a pity as all here should know, So you didn’t have to think if killers should live or die, Even poems whose verse is bad, sad and wry. Goody-two-shoe left-wingers did it because they could, Bad conservative poets all thought it was good, For now bad tory poets could all have their way, And with terrible verse they were all free to slay. Then they allowed these killers out in fifteen years, But that was not what frightened their peers, “Faint hope” clause they called it with crocodile tears, But the bad poets were the cause of all our fears. Lethal injections seems the honorable way to go, It’s painless so they say and they ought to know, Less painful than James' verses, as we are all aware, Just having to put up with him is really quite unfair. And make it retroactive for those who qualify, BREDIN tops the list of these, no need to wonder why, And our hug-a-thug politicians will eventually change, Or maybe we could put JAMES BREDIN on the firing range. We could have a guillotine and on close circuit TV, Hold up the severed heads for everyone to see, And yet this case there can be no good from that it's said, That's because JAMES BREDIN has already lost his head. With a special thanks to all those who have enjoyed my previous verses. Good Lord, the man is so myopic, he doesn't even realize he's being repeatedly slammed here. It's one thing not to respond to your detractors, but another to not even read them. Wotta maroon.
  25. Poetry In These Serious Times Pocket Rocket The rhyming Tory's returned to troll With poetry that's oh so droll With rhymes that do not make the grade He cannot call a spade a spade Instead it's rhetoric, tried and true All hid beneath a banner blue "I'm Conservative" is his claim But he should hang his head in shame All the old labels he abuses "communist, socialist" words that he uses Pointing a finger at courts and judges Just re-hashing tired old grudges At all things Liberal a finger he points And so his rants are out of joint For though he may still stand and glower Who is currently in power??? So take your bad verse elsewhere, James Before your posts each of us flames You've shown youself, revealed your soul You're nothing more than one more troll
