I really believe if we brought one of the "terrible" warlords from Afganhistan here and sent Mr. Harper back, we would have exactly the same actions. Limiting people's freedoms is what both of these types promote.

Stephen Harper Greets the Other Amigos Wearing Khakis
margrace replied to Higgly's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes people who would love to take away our freedoms, people who would love to control the great unwashed. You can identify them when they start using words like communist and hippy when answering posts. -
All the people of Afganhistan want is the right to be free, to have democracy right? And who is stopping it, the people with the power, the power to hold meetings in which they are not allowed. What is the difference, except in the degree of violence. You can preach Hitler all you want but not allowing free assembly and the right to free information when the people meeting are the ones who control the economy is no different that Afghanistan, Iraq or Hitler for that matter. I heard Mr. Harpers sarcastic remark about a hundred demonstrators. One of the groups demonstrating was the Council of Canadians, how you and your friends would like to shut them up.

After reading your posts on here M. Dancer I find you are the equivilant of the very people you want our troops to fight against in Afghanistan. With the ideas expressed on here by you and your friends we would be the same as the poor Afganies. Your idea of democracy is your way or nothing.
-
We have to keep our troops in Afghanistan to teach them democracy. Perhaps we should practise what we preach, Democracy belongs to everyone and allowing this type of thing to go on is not democratic. We learn by example and how can that example teach anything but violence. A few hypocrites on here aye.

Boy you sure come up with some convoluted arguments. What exactly are you trying to prove?

The anatomy of a pig and human anatomy are supposedly very close. So it is feasible that we could get the same diseases. My son in law just had a new valve put in his heart, a pigs valve. Since so many of you do not have any idea of farming practices you probably would not have grown up with the tradition of Pork being only eaten in the winter, no refrigeration, and when we got the January thaws the pork was salted. The middle east is very hot, why would they promote something that could make them very sick?

The Quebec police are admitting this morning that these were their men, It seems to me that whenever I have seen videos of violence in public protests that there are people dressed as these were and doing violent things. If faces are covered such as this it is very easy to blame me. I support some of the groups who were protesting. I have little faith in our supposed guardians of our safety especially after some of the things that have happened over the last several years. The shooting unarmed protesters, Dudley George, the incident at UBC, Chretien was involved in that all prove that if we don't kotow to the people with the power we are in danger.

Betsy I believe the reason these people did not eat pork was because there was no refrigeration. Not very safe.

Interesting when Harris was our premier he was referred to as Ontario slope shouldered premier by the western media. Harper reminded me a little of him when I saw him, I think he needs a little more advice. Mr. Bush certainly has better taste. -
Well I don't use such items, make all my stuff from scratch but I do agree with you. We should know where all the products we eat come from. The only things I might eat are some fruits not grown in Canada or the US and that is only occasionally

Legal papers are one thing but ordinary correspondance is another. My son wanted to edit his sisters letter and send it back. I put a stop to that one, she has a learning disability and it is wonderful to get the letter without complaining. -

Correcting someone else's spelling is a real put down, and underlines a superior attitude, this is exactly what Canadians object to. -

Ah pretty interesting statement, I hope that this is not a general feeling in the US. Don't underestimate Putin. -

Aren't you describing how the white culture in a lot of instances has always behaved. You are forgetting who were the original slave owners aren't you? -
It is still my contention that we should, for instance, pay more attention in all stores to where the goods come from. In buying tops or t shirts I find that one made in Canada or the US is my size, is much better quality and last longer. A medium size shirt, made in Canada is a good fit, an extra size shirt made in China may fit me or be too small. One of the other suggestions I heard was that one can buy in stores, and this time Wal-Mart one suggested and wear the cheap shirt a couple of times and throught it away. So haven't I heard a lot lately about our dumps being overfull and American Woman is right we should not be sending our garbage to the US. Maybe its time we took a little responsibility for our own actions.

U.S. healthcare expensive, inefficient
margrace replied to Catchme's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Of coarse you don't mind Canadian Patients. A new mother sent down from Albert for a delivery cost our system $30.000 a day, in Canada it would have been $10,500 a day. It was an emergency evidently that Calgary couldn't Handle. Since you obviously have a vested in interest why would you mind. -

American woman, I hope you do not think that of all Canadians. Yes we have a lot of water and yes we should share, but as any country will tell you including your own. It is the duty of this generation to protect the next. What we are trying to say is that we, as Canadian citizens, want to be sure we get a fair deal for our children and our future generations. We do not want any companies coming here and telling us that we cannot use our own resources. I think a lot of us need to know more about Africa and India and water. There are some pretty sad stories coming back to us of women having to walk many miles for water. -

Interesting reply, thumping bibles, how do you arrive at that idea. I believe the bible was written by men such as you. You have two agendas to control the masses and keep women down. You evidently have no use for the common man, read too much Ayn Rand haven't you. Everyone deserves proper health care whether you believe it or not. -

I only know of one person in our area who goes to the Mayo Clinic, he drove. He also owns factories in Europe and Canada. -
