Conservatives vs Progressive Conservatives
fellowtraveller replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
OP just cannot acknowledge how Harper won his majority, too scary. The question you are asking but afraid to say is: will the centrist PC party ruling Canuckistan today tear itself to bits with internal dissent? Dude. move on. -
Alberta Election 2012

Geez, somebody east of Lloydminster noticed that finally..... but they didn't catch that it started a couple of years before Redford. -

No, and Wildrose has not been derailed either. -

More common are the family members who work in small family businesses, then find out that although they are just regular hourly employees they are not eligible for EI either. -

Harper takes over 'energy projects' decisions
fellowtraveller replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
oh, I think he understands the poltical risks. He is also aware of the economic risk posed to Canada by not getting energy products to markets other than the USA. We already pay a hefty, hefty price in the form of discounted oil in part because we have only one customer for oil exports. It gets worse for gas exports , with massive amounts of new gas production on US soil, which hurts us badly. And finally, the US has professed a strong impetus and strategy to be energy self dependent in a decade. That leaves us with plenty o' oil and nowhere to send it. We have an urgent need to get on with it, not in ten years when the bewildered blubbering at the collapse of our economy by 'progessives' gets deafening, but now. Does that fit in with your comprehensive awareness of political and sconomic strategy in Canada? -

They don't get welfare in Alberta either. Here is where you make your case that they should. -

have you given up with your contention that Alberta has high rates of welfare recipients or shall I demolish that argument with stats? -
Alberta Election Prediction
fellowtraveller replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
and... yet another complete misread of what happened in the last two years in Alberta politics. There has been a wholesale change, confirmed last night , again. About the only thing remaining of the PC party of Klein is the name. I wouldn't expect the dumb fucks at the Globe and Mail to notice the seismic shift while it was happening, but they could at least notice now. -
Canada's surpluses and deficits
fellowtraveller replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Liberalsa 'slayed the deficit' with two tools: cutting transfer p[ayments to the provinces and by a fortuitous drop in interest rates on the national debt. That was a long time ago. I like the reference to the Tories 'created the crisis' that has deviled the worlds economies for close to five years. They are sneaky bastards all righty. -
Luongo would be perfect for the Leafs, a 33 year old goalie with a ten year contract that pays him $42 million in the next six years. They could give Vancouver Jake Gardiner and Kessel. Everuybody would be happy until the hockey season starts and the happy dust wears off.

It is worse than that, the Leafs will have gone more than half a century without getting to the final.

which province is thinking of shipping welfare recipients to work camps? Hint: not AB. -

Not for welfare.Of course, us rednecks have always spent plenty on commie programs like health and education. -

fellowtraveller replied to Boges's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sure he did, he solved one element the culture of entitlement to welfare in his province, which freed funds for those who needed them- needy people with dependents. If employable welfare recipients chose to move to a place where they could sucker somebody else, tough shit for them. A bus ticket is a cheap way to solve what is in fact not a shift of compassion, but a parasitic condition. if you are a resident of BC, thanks and good luck with the shiftless. At the same time they trimmed the welfare rolls, those remaining on them got a whole lot of daycare support and job training so they could ultinmately get decent jobs. A bunch more were moved onto AISH, which is where they belonged in the first place in a compassionate saociety that is fair to all. Now you can explain why employable single people in BC deserve welfare payments. I'll make some popcorn and enjoy the show. -

fellowtraveller replied to Boges's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
the Klein conservative solution was to make very simple rules for welfare eligibility: if you are single and employable, get a job because you will not get welfare. Period. It cut the unemployed youth bumming on the street drastically, because they inevitably get hungry enough to work . -
Yeah, I'd like to see something more than 4th place in their division for a change. Neither is Santos, no point in rushing him back.

Why is the PMO playing politics?
fellowtraveller replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't understand your most recent outrage. Is it not the govts duty to us as taxpayers to ensure that purportedly charitable organizations are actually charities? When faced with increased scrutiny of that aspect of their operations, this group has volunatarily folded their tent and gone 100% political. The only questions will be to determione if their activities are now taxable, and if their past actions were criminal.. -

The most surprising thing is that Elizabeth May gets first screen space and a byline on Rabble.ca. I thought that was reserved for the most hardcore NDPers. Is Liz about to cross the floor? -
The good news from last nights 12-2 beatdown is that there was no need for our closer to suck, since the starter and bullpen did it first. Gonna be a really long season until the pitching gets a lot better. You cannot throw fastball after fastball down the middle of the plate and expect not to get smashed. Yes, I mean you Morrow.

I mean you told us that for some reason you were paying well under market rent for your area, I have forgotten why he charged so little. I raise the issue because you use that personal anecdote to explain away any reason to own a home.

Alberta Election 2012
fellowtraveller replied to TheNewTeddy's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Wrong. Every abortion performed is a result of the determination of being medically necessary as determined by a patient and her physician. ProChoice groups and priests are not involved in the decision. Pretty funny stuff if were not so serious.Smith is being cute with her words, since she knows full well that any medical procedure, any at all, can be added or removed by the Alberta government without legislation. It is a regulatory order, not legislation. So Smith is both right and a sneaky liar when she states she won't legislate it, she will simply delist. She's also right that Wildrose won't fight it in court, why spend Party money when she can use the full resources of the AB govt? She won't defend the rights or wrongs of abortion, she'll fight on the basis of the provinces right to manage health care. It is a clever plan, I must admit. If the feds withhold a few million normally spent on abortions from transfer payments, what does she care, it is peanuts? And win or lose, it will take years for the issue to be resolved ion the courts. Getting abortion law to the courts is a big win for ProLife. Stopping abortions for poor people is a big win for Pro Life. And ProLife is a big part of WildRose support. It will be a debt paid by WildRose to the church groups, though not nearly the whole debt for getting her elected. -

fellowtraveller replied to Boges's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If you have to maintain a certain salary to keep a home, then you need to depend on a job, not on EI. Move. Get a cheaper house. You're not wasting govt money, you're wasting my money. -
Alberta Election 2012
fellowtraveller replied to TheNewTeddy's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Holding referendums is stated Wildrose policy. And they can delist abortions, and will. It doesn't matter if the feds or anybody takes them to court, it will take months and years to reverse. It is the way that the Proliefers(who just cannot get any traction in Canada) can get the issue front and center, and finally into a court in Canada. In the meantime, mission accomplished for them. They cannot get anywhere with abortions treated as medical issues, this is an opportunity to make it a judicial issue, finally. Oh, and Smith of course is a complete fucking hypocrite about referendums. Her policy calls for citizen referendums. The citizens of Edmonton has a referendum in 1995 and chose to close the municipal airport. She has promised to keep it open if elected. So much for promises.
