Lets look at the oilsands in a different way.

He was a travelling preacher, do you think he delivered his fundamentalist Christian message as a mime act? Your comment on 'not much on the afterlife' is a giggle, one of the tenets of Douglas-style fundamentalism is the fear of Hell and the certainty of your presence there unless you toe the line. Tell me, why do NDP fundamentalists always attempt to blow off the history of their icon and replace it with modern interpretations that are at best fables?. I don't deny that Douglas was an important character in the development of social structures, why do you deny his actual biography? Sure, They are patently ridiculous. Duh. I reckon many go because it gives them a sense of community, of belonging, a link that can share without fear with others.. Tribalism, the pack mentality are basic instincts. Churches also provide a convenient set of anwers for some very difficult questions. You can stop worrying and wondering about the point of it all if you accept the basic premises 'God created the heavens and the Earth' or 'Jesus is Lord' or original sin and so on. There are many other constructs that do a similar thing, but churches have long recognized this need for many and have tailored themselves to meet it. -
One of the best things about the 'ethical oil' is that it has given the left a new person to hate: Ezra Levant. He is the new Conrad Black, his name and very existence invoke throbbing veins in the forehead. A big problem for them with Ezra though is that he is hard to caricature and demonize without being overtly anti-Semitic. It;s a real bind.

I don't judge Tommy too harshly for being a fire and brimstone, outspoken evangelical Christian either. His belief and often preached faith that God created everything in seven days a few thousand years ago is just as valid now as it was then. -

Nice shift of the goalposts. Not. So the folks I mentioned are not left or right, but north and south? -

The economic structure of Hitlers economy was somewhere in the middle politically. He more or less controlled the means of production especially once the war started, but the factories were privately owned and profit making enterprises. -

Hey, China needs coal and Alberta has a lot of it. Maybe when they build the Kitimat pipeline they could put ina very long conveyor belt too. -
The NDP does not whip its members? Ask Bev Desjarlais about that, or ask the Dippers who had a sudden change of heart on their vote on the long gun registry.

Don't change a thing about how you operate the party or policies, it has ensured your place in Opposition for decades.

Well no. Giving people some enforced days off is not an indication they are unnecessary. It is a clear message that the govt is unable to manage their own workforce. If the staff were unnecessary, management should have laid them off and made the savings permanent. Regardless of need, Bob Rae simply did not and does not have the gumption to take that action, then or now.

I wasn't commenting on that, I was commenting on the implication that dictators are all right wing. Many of the worst of the worst are appear to be lefties. Ah yes, fascism, with Herr Hitler leading the way. Wasn't he the chap who led the National Socialist Party to a democratic victory in Germany? -
The other captain said he was simply doing his duty as an officer by staying aboard the sinking ship and directing the evacuation. Then he corrected himself and, in a verbak kick ti the groin of the captain that ran away said " I am not a hero and simply acted as any normal man would". Note that the second and third in command of the ship were in the same lifeboat as the captain. I guess all three fell into the same lifeboat, what a coincidence! I applaud the cruise operator for hiring person with disabilities. This is noted as being a calamity that will cost billions. The ship itself is insured for about $500 million. Civil suits will not be cheap, and if the ship breaks up or sinks the environmental bill will be astronomical considering the hit to Italian tourism. There will also be a big hit on cruise revenues overall as passengers reconsider their travel plans.

"the NDP will continue to be seen as a more viable alternative to the CPC all across Canada". ??? Only if you also believe in Tinkerbelle. The NDP have increased their support outside Quebec only marginally, and a reincarnated Hitler could have done that given the steady collapse of the Liberals and the attendant seats up for grabs. Did you think you were signiong on at rabble.ca and somehow found yourself here instead? Everybody outside the NDP is surely rooting for Dewar: a charismatic, energetic guy who does not speak one of the official languages. Perfect.

Sounds pretty easy for NORAD to track Santa Claus, what with all that radar and satellite technology. What I want to know is who is keeping an eye on the Easter Bunny?

Scettino was in a photo today in handcuffs and being escorted to a courtroom by the cops. That generally means legal trouble, and he is being held in custody as he is seen as a flight risk. Maybe they are worried he might swim away again.

Now you have me confused. Are Mao, Castro, Pol Pot,Chavez, Stalin etc etc etc not from the left? -
The captain has claimed that when the ship listed heavily he fell into the water and could not physically get back on deck. The trial will tell the true story. It is also claimed that the reason they hit the rocks off the town of Giglio was that one of the officers is from this tiny town and the Captain thought it would be fun to run the ship closer to give his shipmate a better look. "Hey, I can see my house" SMASH

Boomer Seniors: 65 and sex, drugs and rock and roll

That is a chilling statistic. The CPP may be solvent, but end-of-life healthcare system for an avalanche of sick old people is not. Are you self sufficient enough to pay for your own health care needs, because you might very well have to, nobody else will have the cash? -
Are we selling our sovereignty to China?
fellowtraveller replied to Scotty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The China trade is peanuts. What has really hurt our lumber industry is that our main customer-USA- stopped building houses several years ago. The endless lobbying, NAFTA challenges and court action by US lumber companies prior to that did not help either. -

Not quite. It is equally or more efficient to upograde the bitumen to crude in Alberta. I agree about the refining of the crude into finished products. -

The same is true of other large economies, examples include Japan, India, South Korea,Norway, FRance. They have different approaches and certainly different scales of economies, but there is a definite merging of national interests/national strategy with government and large business. -

In Alberta, the Socreds just morphed into the PCs. -
Personally, I'd love to see Rae run as Liberal leader against Harper in an election. He has so much baggage that 34 seats might look like the good old days. But before that, Bobby will have to pick a point to resign as interim leader. He has been evading the media in their relentless questions about his leadership aspirations. At the same time, he has taken a solemn oath not to run as leader while in the interim job. His only way out is to quit as interim.

And finding some bizarre website isn't enough. Here is your assignment: compare stats of convicted Catholic clergy with stats of convicted non-Catholic clergy, and post a percentage relative to the size of their representation in religion in Canada. Or just cut to the chase: your boys are profoundly, systematically sick, and the Church hierarchy is rotten to the core not just for their actions before the world wide revelations of misdeeds, but for the corporate coverup which is ongoing. We both know the survival of the Catholic Corporation is at stake and you are welcome to defend it in whatever way you see fit. Just don't expect others to have your level of 'faith'..
