  1. I noticed Dion , in his litany of criticism of Alberta and Harper, did not have the time to critique his own performance or that of his government. Just an oversight, I'm sure. he might have at least offered an apology to canadians along the lines of : "we did nothing for 13 years and I was personally useless as Environment Minister. I'll try to do better when I'm coronated, oops, elected next time". In his silly shirt and hat, and rented boots, he looked utterly ridiculous in media promo. His handlers forgot to dress him in a string tie with a carved bone toggle to complete the costume. But.... they'll eat it up in Central Canada, which is the entire point of the Green Shift.
  2. Not true. Effective this year, lawyers involved are required to procure picture ID from both sides, and nearly all lawyers have done this as a matter of course for many years now. It has nothing to do with money laundering or terrorism, but tr4ather people falsely impersonating the owner and selling a property they do not own. There is not now and never has been anything illegal about the transaction you describe. There is n fraud in a proweprty increasing in value, and the courts have no opinion on somebody paying too much or little, unless some sort of mortgage fraud is involved. You have to prove that somebody did something illegal for the profit, and neither you or the baying hounds of the kangaroo court investigating Mulroney have done so. If you choose to bypass lawyers and register the sale directly with Land Titles, they have required photo ID for years. You are also required to provide photo ID when you open the bank account whre the cheques are drawn to make the transaction , so the funds are certainly not untraceable. Big Brother, pure and simple.
  3. Kids, the name for this mental conditon is 'transference'. It occurs when a person acts like an a**hole, has insufficient character to man up and acknowledge their error, and continues to look for an out. Most of us move past this as adults.

  5. Realtors are already required to report cash transactions over $10K, and the reality is that virtually no tranactions involve cash because virtually no real estae brokers will accept cash under any circumstances. If the client insists on a deposit in cash, most companies reqwuire the agent to issue a personal receipt, deposit the money in their own account, and issue a personal cheque. There will be many clients who rightfully refuse to provide the info to a realtor, in acknowledgement that real estate offices simply do not and will not have the level of security required to make sure that info is never compromised. This is a pure Big Brother play, and completely unnecessary. Drug dealers don't usually have anything in their names anyway, and it seems highly unlikely that 'terrorists ' would invest in Candian residential real estate.
  6. Funny how the very vocal opponents of C-10 howl about the lack of free expression and freedom of speech supposedly entrenched in the bill,, yet are nowhere to be seen or heard when Mark Steyn is in front of kangaroo courts HRCs for much the same issue.
  7. If a Canadian is sincere in reducing their energy footprint and saving the planet, there is one option and only one: move to somewhere with a much better climate. Any way you cut it, if you live in our climate you will consume a lot of energy just to stay warm and alive. So, true believers: start packing for Central America. You know it is the right thing to do.
  8. Since we are on the topic of Liberals and taxes, any word on when the Liberals intend to eliminate the GST as they solemnly promised in 1993? It has been a while.....
  9. Why does Ontario need so much new power, given that its manufacturing base is contracting at an unprecedented rate?
  10. True, but the real tragedy is having leadership that is clearly committed to changing nothing 0f substance. My observation - from close range on occasion- is that neither Indian Affairs or any group headed by phil Fontaine wants to change anything that jeopardizes jobs or the massive and ever growing funding adminstered by DIAND. The Apology will, unfortunately, be more lip service and I anticipate nothing of substance changing at all. My belief is that our national shame wll not even begin to be addressed until three things happen: first, a charismatic and committed leader emerges nationally to actually lead First Nations people. Ypu will know when he or she has arrived, as mainstream Canada will not like the message brought by that person. Second, When the federal government actually cedes control and forgoes the paternalistic approach which has failed us all for so long Third, when both sides target the #1 and critically urgent issue facing native people right now: the health care crisis in First Nations people.
  11. It is very hard to follow your 'logic' here. Fiorst off, Canda does not just invite 'professionals ' here. Some immigration is achieved by admitting people who qualify by dint of education, language skills, work skills and other metrics. Nothing wrong with that..... Ohters are admitted because they are needy. Nothing wrong with that ither, but because one person is admitted and may need helpd getting established in a productive lifestyle does not mean that every member of their extended family is automatically granted the same privilege. And note that admission to this or any nation is not a right but a privilege. That is not racist or discriminatory, it is simple common sense.
  12. Mr Dion, what are the intentions of the Liberal Party regarding the level of GST? After being elected, do you intend to keep it the same, increase it, or eliminate it as promised by Mr Chretien in 1993?
  13. 30 years of official bilingualism has ultimately been a failure. Only one inconsequential province, New Brunswick, has officially adopted it. Yeah, lets keep throwing billions at a program most speakers of either langauge don't give a s**t about. It's what we do.......
  14. Borg spewed: Importing? Trouble? Ethnic? Note this incident took place in Edmonton, where the largest chunk of random crime and gang violence is by a well known 'ethnic' group- First Nations. Would you send them back to wherever they came from Borgie? Did you know that land bridge over the Bering Sea is closed for repairs?
  15. Hah, funny that I live in Alberta and learn about this here, which is indicative of the interest people have in watching CBC. Extra CBC resources in Alberta are strictly so the CBC executives and the Friends of the CBC can pretend anybody here watches or listens to the network. A colossal and galling waste of our money on entertainment, and painfully self-aware, bad entertainment at that. The CBC has always billed itself as a unifying force for the country and is now the opposite of that.
  16. What the PM should have said to the Italians, and the Germans is:" you are a pack of gutless, worthless bastards who are failing both your NATO allies and the Afghani people by cowering in your bases in Afghanistan.".
  17. I watch BBC World News every day on the treadmill and there was no mention of this story this morning. You're just making stuff up again. I wonder too if Harper had just had enough of Bernier. It is rumoured that every Minister provides a signed, undated letter of resignation the day they are appointed. Maybe Harper just decided it was time to open his desk drawer and get it out.
  18. That is not why Brodie is leaving. He is going so that he is not subject to the new 5 year mandatory hiatus on lobbying after you leave federal employment which applies to all those employed as of July 1. 2008. If he stayed, his personal options and potential income would be severely limited. You can expect to see numerous DMs and ADms quitting before July 1 too. Damn that scoundrel Harper for introducing this legisaltion!
  19. I certainly hope so, if only to restore some balance.
  20. I can understand the OPs disappointment at the investigators failure to find a way to blame Harper.
  21. No, CSIS books should not be available to regular auditors or to an ombudsman. Secret is secret. The operations of Parliament should be more transparent though.
  22. Can't back up your assertions, so you get defensive and aggressive at the same time.....Typical. There is undoubtedly a large underground economy in Alberta and many other places and always will be. It takes no effort to find people who will work for less if paid in cash, particluarly in trades and construction. Two different prices : cash or cheque. But they don't work for less than minimum wage-far from it, what would be the pint? They work for less than the big money charged in legal transactions, not for tiny amounts of money. Try again, and work a little harder next time to coax some reality into your ideology..
  23. How many 'black market' labour workers are working for mimimum wage or less in Alberta? of course there is an underground economy, and the vast majoprity of it has nothing to do with cab drivers or illegal immigrants, there is always significant untaxed activity and always will be. But what does that have to do with minimum wages?
  24. How interesting, and amusing that you would feel obliged to preface your links, excerpts and comments with this uber -defensive sentence defending your source. Do you think the Toronto Star is something less than objective?
  25. I do have a problem with a crime that does have victims, innocent victims who are killed by people who refuse to take responsibility for their ignorance. A little fine and a suspension and attendance at some boring weekend gabfest does not discourage drinking and driving, somehting more is required. The Sheriff cannot keep anything unl;ess the person is convicted of the crime. That seems entirely reasonable to me. Who is the inocent party? Unless your car has been stolen by a drunk driver, you are responsible for what happens with the vehicle. Ask your insurance company if you are insured if driving while impaired. Ask your insurance company if your car is insured when operated by an unlicensed driver. The vehicle is under your control and your responsibility. Tough luck if you choose to throw it all away. It is up to you. A much larger deterrent is required than what is presently in place. It just does not work.
