  1. Could be, we have to be sensitive to cultural differences you know. Australia did say no to Sharia Law, and were firm about it. I'm surprised at this one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No worries mate! If the Liberals get in, Muslim wishes will be granted on the basis of rights - it is their right to beat women according to Sharia!!
  2. No word on how Canadian families and families the world over have been able to fumble through that whole “family” thing lo these hundreds or thousands of years without the aid of the ha-yuge benevolent government child-bringer-upper social programs (and “early learning” centers—wink!). The Liberals have warned proudly proclaimed that they intend to model the state-run Soviet-style child-rearing and liberal indoctrination centers after Canada’s North-Korean-style healthcare system. Yes, that’s the North Korean-style healthcare system that the liberal-left invented and insist we live—and die—by today. They said it with a straight face. But I think this whole package of socialist plug ’n play childcare gets funding from the Ministry of Multiculturalism since it involves Canada, North Korea, and the former Soviet Union (the collapse of which still haunts the liberal-left in Canada). So we can eagerly await the appearance of the official Liberal Party (and taxpayer!) Sponsorship Logo () being applied to the state-run l’il liberal mini-me centers—and I would imagine your children will be required to wear one as well since if the liberal-left get re-elected, they will be brought to you by... the Canadian Liberal government.
  3. How true that kids benefit most from child rearing accomplished at home. Our kids had that benefit and there were no child tax credits then either. Our children did not want their mom away - they loved to come home and discuss a good or bad day; have cookies & muffins hot on a plate for them; their friends over; parents interacting with them at a park as family/friends outings. They did not feel they had less but said that less meant they had more to look forward towards. The Liberal government, the way I see it, will eventually have custody of the children and parents will only be sperm givers and incubators. They discourage people from raising their children in a home environment as have the feminists who made the stay at home moms feel inadequate and ashamed. It's a scary prospect but if one analyzes the way things are heading, don't be surprised if a separating couple will no longer have to deal with custody issues, government will step in & take full custody and parents will have visitation privileges. Sound far-fetched, well maybe for right now but down the road I can see it happening so be careful what you vote for.
  4. http://w3t.org/?u=ets By Sheila Copps OTTAWA -- As a one-time single mom who always worked outside the home, I have had personal experience with the trials and tribulations of Canada's patchwork child care system. Unlike most parents, I was wealthy enough to pay the full cost of care for my daughter, Danelle. As a government employee, I was also one of the lucky minority of parents whose children have access to workplace daycare. The beauty of the child care plan announced this week by Conservative Leader Stephen Harper is that it empowers parents to make choices that fit their needs. The $100 per month per preschool-age child may be just what a family needs to survive on a single-earner salary (with the other parent staying home to provide care). As for wealthier parents like myself, this additional income would be balanced at tax time. Prime Minister Paul Martin characterized the Tory plan as "maybe a kind of baby bonus." His own plan -- for which he announced billions in additional funding yesterday, would transfer $11 billion by 2015 to provincial governments for child care. The problem, in my view, is that there are no national standards. The last agreement actually saw some provinces rake in millions in cash without creating a single new daycare space. The Liberal plan is a cash cow for governments while families are cash poor. Just ask a pregnant woman whether she would prefer a truly national program or 13 different provincial and territorial programs? What if she has to move to a new province in the middle of her pregnancy? Why do politicians assume that writing a cheque to another level of government is a substitute for thoughtful policy that works for people? In child care, the Martin government has studiously avoided national standards, fearing a backlash from provinces that want money with no strings attached. Harper has wisely found a way to go over the heads of the provinces directly to the people. By doing so, he is reinforcing his confidence in Canadians' capacity to choose. Those who choose to stay home to care for their kids, or to make family or other arrangements, should not be penalized. Like father, government does not always know best.
  5. Normie, On trying to make some kind of stupid insinuation with this topic you're dying by the minute. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Normie chooses the negative side of things - should have checked to see how old his article in that link was. Nah, can't be bothered, not worth it.
  6. Times do indeed change. But does Harper? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well when you tell me you read or the news media reports that Harper is preaching religion on a street corner or that he kneels to pray 10x daily - then I may sit up and listen. Until then, he is no different in his beliefs, than Chretien, Martin or 50% or more of the Liberal caucus. You have a needle stuck on a record in the same groove - move it along and you just may learn something positive.
  7. Might even get 30% <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Obviously you have not read Post #4 - those were Canadian stats about Canadians. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And the Pew Research Centre also collected stats about Canadians. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Which proves nothing.
  8. Might even get 30% <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Obviously you have not read Post #4 - those were Canadian stats about Canadians.
  9. How about Stephen Harper? See: http://cupe.ca/www/EqualityPride/4192 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> An old article dating back to 2002 and by a union - can't be bothered reading left wing crap. Ya gotta be kidding - times change.
  10. Private labs, x-ray clinics and other such institutions that exist across the country are private and services paid for by government. Think of physicians, almost all of whom are self-employed professionals operating what amounts to independent small businesses. Think of hospitals, for that matter, almost none of which are government-owned. Furthermore, any hospital that contracts out its laundry, housekeeping or cafeteria services is channelling public funds into private sector service delivery in the health care sector. Abortion clinics are private [Morganthaler] and services paid for by the federal government. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Where a hospital or clinic does not have its own X-RAY machine, it has to pay for private services. However, the NDP push is not to expand private services that can be or already are provided in the public system. We should be making our public service the best it can be. Public health-care is less expensive than paying for a profit-making venture, and therefore, we can get more, better health-care for our own money if we invest our public system rather than a parallel private one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But we already have a parallel system and have had for donkey's years - does Layton plan on closing them? Frankly, I do not believe Layton has a plan only a lot of talk.
  11. He'd do well in the US as well. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He'll do well in Canada.
  12. http://www.opinion-canada.ca/en/articles/article_101.html Sixty-one percent of Canadians believe that religious practice is an important factor in the moral and ethical lives of Canadians while 36% say it is not, according to a poll conducted by the Centre for Research and Information on Canada (CRIC). This is a significant change since April 1980, when this question was asked in an Environics Focus Canada poll. Then, 79% of Canadians said that religious practice was an important factor in the moral and ethical lives of Canadians, while 20% felt it was not. Regionally, the current CRIC survey revealed that Atlantic Canadians (76%) were most likely to think that religion was an important factor in the moral and ethical life of Canadians today. At the other end of the spectrum, Quebecers (44%) were much less likely than other Canadians to say it was important. The current survey also found that Atlantic Canadians were again notably more likely than other Canadians to report that religion was an important part of their lives (80%). British Columbians and Quebecers were the least likely to recognize its importance (58% and 59% respectively). Age was also a determining factor on this issue. Fifty-two percent of those aged 18-29 said that religion was an important part of their lives. This figure rose to 64% for Canadians aged 30-44, and to 68% among those aged 45-59. The figure reached 76% for Canadians over 60. When asked about teaching religion in schools, a majority (56%) felt that public schools should teach children about all the major religions of the world. Sixty-eight percent of Atlantic Canadians took this view. Support for it was lowest in OntarioManitoba where only 5041% think that public schools should teach children about all the major religions of the world. Nationally, 31% of Canadians took the view that public schools should not teach children about any religion at all. In Ontario, 38% – the highest percentage of Canadians in any region – shared this belief. Support for this option was lowest in Atlantic Canada (20%). Only 11% of Canadians said public schools should teach children only about the Christian religion because it is the faith espoused by the majority in the country. Support for this view was highest in Quebec (19%) and lowest in British Columbia (6%). The telephone survey of 1,500 adult Canadians was carried out by Environics Research Group between June 16 and 21, 2004. Surveys of this size have a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5%, 19 times out of 20.
  13. Won't that drive you homophobe (anti-gay) CPC types crazy when " Sven Rides Again".... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why? Who gives a toss if Svend is gay or not - what is important is that he is a thief and if he has a mental problem, then will he be able to represent his constituents without having another stressful event? Furthermore, there are probably gay people who belong to the CPC party or do you know for a fact that there aren't or weren't any? Let's see Brison ran for the CPC leadership and he had a lot of votes - so where are those homophobics you are talking about? Throwing in the gay thingie is a cheap shot.

  15. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey shoop - think there is a full moon out tonight? Like you I agree whether alcohol or marijuna, no one should be allowed to drive impaired - legal or not.
  16. And the Aussie Prime Minister has told them all that Aussie have values & tradition and if these groups do not like it, they are free to leave to where their values are practiced. Good on Howard - the guy has guts!! Canada is a limp wimp!1 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Aussies stood up to the quest for Sharia law too, I have a soft spot for Oz, would like to go there one day. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Have been there many times - it is a lovely country with happy socially friendly people. Hope to make at least another couple of trips before I meet my maker.

  18. You bet, I love our Toyota and I shall continue to support non-union businesses.
  19. Layton only got something from the Liberals because he formed a coalition with them. You know, we keep you in power if you do this and that for us. Why do you think Martin is courting Layton to merge parties and Hargrove is right in there like a dirty shirt. Where would Layton have been had the Conservatives formed this coalition or the Bloc? A vote for NDP is a Liberal vote and a union vote. Watch out Canada cuz if this country is slipping down the heap, it will sink even lower.
  20. Good point justcrowing. Australia now has a simple and effective saliva test technique that detects small quantities of marijuana in the body. Australian police use it regularly. Personally I think Canada should have such a system in place even if we don't legalize it so we can catch marijuana-impaired drivers. Whether it's alcohol or marijuana, no one should be allowed to drive impaired. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can't believe I am going to write this but for a change I agree with your last sentence - oh well even the post. Sheesh, and I haven't even had a glass of wine so must celebrate but am not driving.
  21. Well, I have Normie on my ignore list but it doesn't help LOL I don't see any platform from tbe U,.S. thats a silly thing to say isn't it. I'm in full agreement with this one, I saw what it did (pot) to one of my kids. The liberals want to legalize prostitution too, Ahem....wake up Canada, time to get rid of this slime. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did you not know that Normies neck of the woods, B.C. grows the finest and most potent marijuana in the world - grow-ops in half million dollar homes - cops can't keep up with the abundance of grow-ops; tunnels dug into the U.S. for illegal export; drug wars; increased useage in schools - if you get satellite TV you can pick up B.C. news - it's all there. No wonder BCers want it legalized. Well if it must be legalized then it should be done so like alcohol but then how does one deal with a car driver who is high - how does one test his/her pot level of intoxication? Never smoked the darn stuff and never will but like alcohol, it will create a new problem for law enforcement be it legalized or not. Former Vancouver Mayor Campbell, tried a free needle exchange and providing free drugs to addicts to prevent overdose deaths, etc. Was it successful? Have not seen much about it on the news except that there were very few takers of the program. That being the case, legalizing pot will encourage its production and a lovely export market into the U.S. via smuggling. Now we will have another problem when the U.S. shuts the border or puts guards all along it or whatever they do. I think right now they have a group called "Minute Men" or something like that patrolling the border and people in B.C. are already upset. Nothing like creating more problems with our neighbors. All this sounds like the free condoms handed out in schools and on the street and to sexually active people who could not afford them - did it prevent teen pregnancy or aids? Nope - nothing changed, teens get pregnant and aids victims have not decreased.
  22. Martin a left wing radical? How do his policies differ from the former Progressive Conservatives? How do they differ from Joe Clark's? Or are the former PCs also left wing radicals by your definition? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah but they obviously do difer if Clark could not even get his feet off the ground and the voters did not like PC policies so votedt for Liberal. I think Clark was an honest and decent man and the media and lefties laughed at him but now that he is no longer in power, suddenly he is respected. Talk about hypocracy.
  23. You'll have to convince Harper. He now opposes a two-tier system even though he previously favoured it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well the socialist herd have been yapping negatively and he is simply trying to give you socialists what you want since you appear to be in the majority. Can't blame him but you know, it'll cost every citizen big time.
  24. Australia rated as the #1 best country in the world in which to live and rated higher than Canada regarding medicare, has a two-tier system - people in OZ are very happy with their medicare system. How do I know, cuz I have a lot of relatives there. http://www.medicare.gov.au/ I have extended medicare for which I pay which covers things that are not covered in our public system or is partially covered. So if you think that Canada does not already have a two-tier system, think again. I also pay for out of country medical treatment when I travel and this amount is deducted off my medical claim on my Income Tax. No, I & my spouse are not rich by any matter of means and on a fixed income and we can manage. Many other countries in the world have a two-tier system and it works well for their citizens. Canadians abused our system along with dumping hundreds of thousands of immigrants/refugees on a system that was unprepared for this influx of people. Liberals gutted it, so welcome to the new world that was created for you by the Liberals so stop whining since the complainers elected the Liberals.
  25. Then we can only come to another conclusion - that this country is run by left wing radicals who will destroy this country.
