  1. One problem that I have with Bible thumpers and religious zealots of any religion is that they want to create laws of the land which would have an impact on those of us who don't share their views. . <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But I notice you find it okay and for the Liberals to create laws of the land which have an impact on those who do not share those views. Double standard.
  2. http://www.trendlines.ca/politics.htm Dec. 2nd - Based on the campaign to date, TrendLines is currently projecting a Conservative Party Minority of 117 MP's on Election Day [Jan 23rd, 2006]
  3. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I for one am tired of the same sex issue and good for Harper to get it out of the way first and foremost. I do not want to pay for an election based on it as there are far more important issues confronting this country than SS and I hope that Harper delves into issues that need attention and have been left on the back burner for much too long. Enough is enough and let's move on with the issue of medicare, government accountability, change in how government works; elected senate if we must have one; education; and so forth. And I do not want an election spent discussing abortion either. If women want an abortion by all means have one but pay for it [i see that as an elective surgery - form of birth control] unless it is a life threatening situation then it should be part of our publicly paid system. Enough is enough!! I have had it up to my ying-yang the way this country is being run now.
  4. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cutting GST will help everyone. Rich or poor buy clothing; rich or poor purchase cars; rich or poor purchase homes or condo's, mobile homes; rich or poor purchase school supplies and medical supplies and on and on and on!! Name me a country that has eliminated poverty? There will always be the drug addicted, the homeless; the welfare cases; the low income earners; single parents; and on goes the list. How would you deal with these and where would all this money come from other than higher taxation which would affect purchasing power and the cycle begins.
  5. Should we warn the administrator LOL I will ignore the baiting from that quarter. Well, I'm looking forward to having Harper defend the clarity act, and defend Alberta too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yup!
  6. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Fair enough. The election is usually the government's to lose and the opposition's to win. The opposition must prove to the voters that they are worthy of governing. One of the worst things to do when attacked on a certain issue is to ignore it or attack your critic back on a different issue. If the Liberals attack Harper's right-wing past, he can't ignore the criticism if he is going to win. He must come back and say "you know what, you're right. I was against universiality of health care, against abortion, against big government, an advocate of free market, etc. but you know what? I was the head of a right-wing party and a right-wing lobbying group. Now I am the head of a major party and my views have shifted to the left. We are moderate and we will govern as Canadians want us to govern." THEN "And you, Paul Martin...famed socialist...you supported the Iraq war, missile defence, spoke about the defence of marriage...hell, you cut health care funding in order to rack up huge surpluses and now you are telling me you are for human rights and social programs?" I am not endorsing Harper and knocking Martin but it is just so frustrating to see Harper lose this election...I can only imagine what true Conservatives feel. Harper cannot win on scandal. An election run on scandal will produce a Liberal minority...because as some people I know argue, "no scandal will make me vote a socially conservative government into power." Silly, but true. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That being the case, Canadians lose again. Liberals can make promises but the question is will they keep them? They haven't in the past so why would anyone believe they would now. NDP would dig us under so I see no other alternative but the CPC and will take my chances as it cannot be worse than what we have now. Harper is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't - the fear mongering has set doubts in peoples minds but if one keeps an open mind and digs up current facts, that would be an intelligent way to make a decision and not from media bias and Liberal supporters rhetoric.
  7. Your reply is most unfair. The vast majority of immigrants are not the educated class. Educated immigrants must meet certain Canadian standards, which when met is not a clique but an opportunity to reap the benefits. I do not believe that the discussion here is about educated immigrants but the cost of those who come here that are uneducated and unemployed because they have no skills or even able to speak one of the two official languages. If you do not choose to become a citizen and have the attitude you hold, they why are you still here? I am curious.
  8. http://www.bcliberals.com/ndp_-_the_real_story/ Quote NDP: "Our province needs a dramatic and immediate increase in the number of long-term care beds that provide complex care around the clock. This is the only way we can relieve the stress on our hospital's acute care wards and emergency room backlogs." MISLEADING. To relieve pressure on our hospitals, we need to invest in new hospitals (NDP never did; we are – eg., new Abbotsford Hospital), technology, preventative health care, and skilled health professionals (who the NDP drove out of the province). The NDP platform says NOTHING about building new hospitals, investing in technology, supporting preventative health care, or training and recruiting skilled health professionals. FACT: Under the NDP, wait times for a residential care bed was as much as 1 year. Today average wait times for residential care are a fraction of that: ranging from 30 to 90 days. Our approach is working. Quote NDP: "To date the BC Liberals have not made a single announcement to build long-term care beds. Instead they are building assisted-living units, offering rent supplements and home support." WRONG. Examples of residential care bed projects: · 50 new complex care beds and 30 units for seniors with dementia at Gibsons (27 Sept 2004) · 155 new residential care beds at South Surrey Seniors Village (1 April 2005) · 30 new residential care beds at Hilton Villa in Surrey (14 April 2005) · 94 new residential care beds at Laurel Place in Surrey (14 April 2005) · 60 residential care and 40 dementia beds at Village by the Station in Penticton. · 46 specialized psycho-geriatric beds at Sandringham care centre in Victoria. (8 Mar 2005) · Redeveloping Simpson Private Hospital (Langley) including 40 additional beds (announced April 6, 2005) · And more…. Quote NDP: "But assisted living units do nothing to help seniors waiting in hospital beds because they require long-term complex care." WRONG. Having more options like assisted-living units helps free up residential care beds for those seniors who need them. Proof that this approach is working is in the reduction in wait times for residential care beds. Under the NDP, wait times were as much as 1 year – today, average wait time is 30-90 days. We believe that seniors want a range of options from assisted-living to home care to residential care. Seniors want a system that fits their needs. The NDP wants a one-size-fits-all program where seniors have no options but institutionalized residential care beds.
  9. Well maybe technically, translink is in charge of transit. Campbell offered multil millions plus to cover any cost overrun. The vote was pushed for three times within about a month; until the Campbell government got the yes vote they were looking for. This cost over run could be astronomical with all the tunnelling required under an extremely busy street and business area. Technically, BC Ferries is now a private company owned by the government. Which only means that they do not have to account for anything to the public. It is being run on a Campbell agenda to kill unions in BC. He is trying to make the province attractive to business by making sure the working man does not earn a decent wage. Well spoken like a union person - what's in it for me and be damned the rest of you. It is so nice not to be constantly held hostage by strikes and have a healthy economy. Union unrealastic wage demands in a sagging economy during NDP reign gave rise to cost of goods and services thus placing those who are in the poverty line to sink even deeper into poverty. But then that doesn't really matter, does it - so much for NDP caring for the little guy. Welfare rolls doubled - ever wonder why?. Why were people fleeing the province seeking work because there was non here? Making a province attractive to business creates employment and food on your table. There are more tax payers to provide needed services. What NDP did was drive business out and jobs along with it to other provinces. My gawd, even unions turned against the NDP in the last election which is one reason they could not even form an opposition. AS for Carole James, she has no policies and I would not hold my breath for anything constructive from her or Layton.
  10. No it did NOT take place during the NDP reign. The largest incident was the federal Liberal election just past but that was being done by BC Liberals. The ministerial aids that are now fired and one suspended with pay. They also, dabbled in drugs and money laundering. You are the one confused. You blamed the NDP, then gave an example of the Federal Liberals. Those Liberals were being led by members of the BC Liberals. Wrong. Dosanjh was harvesting the ethnics vote in Surrey. Martin did his own bidding and recruiting. Even Terquila Sheila was courrting. God help us if NDP get in again... surely we haven't such short memories.
  11. I see another right wing intellectual has joined the group. You mst have spent lots of time thinking up what to say for your post. The guy with the movie star looks is the NDP Surrey Panorama Ridge candidate Jagrup Brar - looks a lot like John Travolta. Gee thanks for such a nice welcome.
  12. The Green Party is anything but a right wing party. They are the party that effectively splits the NDP vote. If NDP was so good as government, why were they wiped in the last election? They could not even form an opposition. These people even stole money from charities. How soon we forget!! Campbell had to impose some tough love on BC & the gimmies after NDP left the province as a "have not". Province was stagnating. People are now working, even students are able to find employment. We are leading economically and things are turning around for the better. Things are not perfect and some policies don't sit well but it is sure better than we had under NDP. Ceasar now be honest - you know the ethnic manipulation took place during the NDP reign. It was the Federal Liberals that manipulated the ethnic vote in Surrey. Methinks u are confused by the two Liberal governments. My opinion - if u want BC to sink deep, vote NDP.
  13. Layton resembles Bugs Bunny as for charissma - where?
