  1. I am not much interested in what labels media gives to pedophiles. Other than the fact I was born Christian please be assured I have abandoned all the trappings of Christianity.
  2. Okay although I feel (I have nothing other than my perception) that many are nominal Christians. I was baptized as a Christian (Unitarian) and when I married I was encouraged to forward the aims of my wife's religon (Catholicism).
  3. "As for evil, there is no such thing as evil, it is a perception relative to each individual which is highly impacted based on there culture. What some people see as evil, others do not." I am not so sure I agree with you. I would like to use the example of the pedophile and the exploitation of children in such circumstances. In my view such conduct is clearly evil in nature. I would like to recommend several books written by M. Scott Peck. In addition to his book The Road Less Travelled he has written several books on the nature of evil. As I recall both he and his wife are psychiatrists speaking from a Christian perspective as well as that of clinicians.
  4. It may very well be a religon that was the dominant one in years gone by although I have serious doubts the majority here in Canada actually are active participants in this day and age.
  5. "Religion was suppose to about spreading the message of love." I am wondering where you got this idea from. "What did Jesus do? He went around helping the beaten, fallen and the damned." Even if there was a person by this name who acted in this manner how is this relevant in 2011?
  6. "If God is necessary to an individual to provide "meaning" to their life - great, if not - great." That pretty well sums it up.
  7. "Perhaps God is knocking....but they aren't listening. Paul of Tarsus rabidly hated and persecuted Christians, to the point of pursuing them earnestly....and became an Apostle." Another alternative is that there is no such thing as God other than in your imagination.
  8. The Bush Doctrine speaks for itself long after Dumbya left office.
  9. That is a quantum leap in logic my friend. I notice you have used the past tense in describing the existence of your god.
  10. There is one certainty that should be beyond dispute and that is we all will die sooner or later. You can split hairs about evolution, the meaning of theory, and other minute details but the inevitability of death is beyond dispute. Perhaps the bible provides some solace to those so inclined to accept such teachings based upon the stories described in the scripture and as interpreted over the generations. I have seen nothing to date that would cause me to believe that events are other than as I have described them.
  11. Bush and his neocon bretheren tried to impose their version of democracy at the barrel of a gun. One need only look to Iraq to see the folly of such a policy.
  12. of ruling party, report says Los Angeles Times | Feb. 5, 2011 | 9:00 a.m. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has resigned as leader of the country's ruling party today, according to state television. The 82 year-old president and his son, Gamal Mubarak, were among the leaders of Egypt's ruling National Democratic Party who resigned, state television said. It appeared the resignations were part of negotiations underway to transition the country to a new government, and did not signal that Mubarak would step down as president. 13. I would suggest the onus of proof is on you given the position you have staked out. Several of your fellow Christians have given you an opportunity to explain yourself and you have been rather obtuse in response.
  14. I see very little similarity between the events in Korea and the current circumstances Egypt finds itself in. In the case of Korea you have two superpowers influencing the events there whereas in the case of Egypt the USA has been the dominant force as well as the architect of the decades old military regime there. Secondly whether the USA withdraws support or not the military in Egypt will determine the outcome as the events unfold. Even if Mubarak is dispatched with his ill-gotten fortune intact there is still a command structure in place (i.e. the senior officers in the armed forces) that will wish to continue to dominate this society as a whole.
  15. Where is Dumbya these days?
  16. "Well, it's a bit more complicated than that...peace tribute for several nations in the region preceded Bush by several administrations for several other reasons. Bush wanted Mubarak to make a bold move in the wake of Saddam's downfall." Psst this is 2011. Talk is cheap.
  17. bush/cheney: You state: "No...active engagement has proven to be the best policy. Canada "supports" US policies in ways that you can't even imagine." What is a sand nigger? What specific ways should/would Canada support the US in this current circumstance? One of the impediments to progress is Mubarak's insistence to stay on until September. As you know this is an impediment to a move to more democratic institutions being put in place. In your view what steps, if any, should be taken in hastening Mubarak's departure?

  19. If I am correct you have premised your view of the earth's origins on Genesis. I would like you to walk me through Genesis to put some flesh and substance on the beliefs you seem to embrace. Bear in mind I am not as familiar with the bible as you claim to be.
  20. Isn't the real issue the support provided by the west to dictatorships and isn't the solution a move awy from such support? Maybe we could send this fellow bush-cheney over to Egypt to assassinate Mubarak. It would give him something useful to do.
  21. Betsy: You state: "I believe that God exists whether proven by science or not. My belief is cemented by my faith." That is fine but why have you setup your position based upon the premise God vs. Science?
  22. "The MB in Egypt is "clandestine" only because its been banned since 48. As to its intentions, they are clearly spelled out in their various publications. They want to see the Islamic version of Judgement Day come to pass. They are just as loony as any other religious zealots. You may not like Islamic orthodoxy, but its not better or worse than Christian, Jewish, or Hindi orthodoxy. As to them being a theat to the established world order, I suppose they are. After all, the mid east (in particular) is saddled with dictators and riddled with corruption." Religon is largely for the gullible and weak-minded. That religious zealotry is on the ascendency including here in Canada and the USA is cause for concern. By the way what religon does Mubrarak identify with?
  23. Have you considered establishing a new topic perhaps touching on the History of Western Civilization ?
  24. Thanks for responding. Many of your kind suggest a 6000 year time frame for the earth and the intitiation of human life. Are you in this camp or do you accept, as fact, that the earth is billions of years in formation?
  25. It might be helpful to focus on the crisis in Egypt. If I am in need of historical information I am sure that is available elsewhere. There is a lot of extraneous information exchanged here.
