I know your idea about slavery is stuck on your brain, but PEOPLE are not goods, and they're not services.
Access to legal consel is still a cornerstone of our law system.
Let's look at the home of direct democracy... Switzerland...
Where they will have popular votes on everything, from membership in international organizations to how much allowance is to be paid to employees of a local train station for cleaning their unorm (!).
The vast majority of voters don't bother most of the time. And one Swiss canton holds the dubious distinction of being the last place in Europe where women got the right to vote... the (male) voters kept beating the idea over and over gain until the country's highest court ordered the canton to ignore the vote's result in 1990.
I'll pass.
Actually, nothing new there. Past generations of immigrants did it too.
Fact is, if you had a cousin, a former neighbour, you old high-school teacher, stuck in a war zone, you'dwant to do something too. As long as the people do it in a fashion respectful of the laws of this end, they have the right to express their concern, and their opinion.
It's actually a reflection of your prejudiced views about French-speaking Canadians.
Coming from someone who cannot even speak the word Quebec right... you pot, me kettle.
And after this one, you talk about other people being idiots?
I know the answer. And that answer is wrong on more than one account. "Bringing their baggages"? You mean like past Irish, Polish, BRITISH immigrants? "making their damnest to make the Canada we know into what they just left?" Yeah right. Bizarre, I am in Toronto and somehow I have no problem knowing I am in Canada.
Feel free to hide your prejudice against the "but many people think the same as I am". Common sense and logic are not a popularity contest. And besides, a majority of Canadians once thought Jews had no place in this country, and more people that you think still think it. Should we treat their opinion as valuable?
He was talking about YOU.
And let's not be fooled here. You don't think any Frog is worthy enough to be a canadian, no matter what.
To bad for you most people in this country, including a majority of those in Quebec, have more brains than that.
It does not matter when getting a doctor, a basketball player, a hockey player, and someone who can speak Chinese. That's the point you refuse to grasp.
Immigrants from Italy, Portugal, Eastern Europe faced the same prejudice and racism that immigrants today face. You cannot dismiss that by saying "oh, but they were Europeans".
Mind you, if I were you, I'd still try. After all, the fact that your predecessors in prejudice were wrong does not bode well for you.....
Bormann, Goebbls, Mengele, Rosenberg, Seyss-Inquart, Kaltenbrunner, Funk, Speer, Zhou En Lai, Mao were all university graduates or students.
Cr*p does not smell less because those peddling it carry a unversity degree.
You would have us believe that all you want is for immigrants to assimilate/
Will be pretty hard to believe after something like....
That's sounds pretty like advocating violence against immigrants to me.
Let's get back 50 years ago, and change Haitian to Italian, and Guatemlan to Portuguese. Same racist generalisation, that has been proven wrong over time.
