A genuine Canuck’s view
ft.niagara replied to ft.niagara's topic in Canada / United States Relations
The anti-americanism transcends administrations. Trudeau was anti-american in some of his policies. Didn't he have a ten percent tax on American purchase of property? -
I live in Buffalo, right next to Canada. You would think that Buffalo would benefit from the free trade agreement, NOT. Jobs are lost all the time, but mostly to Mexico. No spinoff jobs from Canada to my knowledge. Perhaps mail drops, and truck stops. The rise in the Canadian dollar over the past ten years has been primarily from NAFTA. I thought the wine trade was especially interesting because NYS produces wine south of Buffalo along the lake, and along the finger lakes. Canada produces wine around Niagara on the Lake. You can see the vineyards, but the wine flows in one direction, south. In any event, get ready for more protectionism not less. The free trade buzz word will be replaced with the balanced trade buzz word. Why do you think that the foreign automakers are setting up shop in US? To prepare for that day.

US Democratic President
ft.niagara replied to Canadian Blue's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
John Kerry is my man. He is a war hero, good looking, senatorial, and rich. He has a quick wit, is able to organize, and would well represent the mainstream of the country. -
I agree that there are inconsistancies, but just like the Aliens and Kennedy and the Moon Landing, the debate will go on, but will not be solved. Many become obcessed, like you PolyNewbie. The interesting thing is these events did not happen one hundred or hundreds of years ago, they happened in many people's lifetime. Still, the answer will not come forth, and eventually these events will pass from memory, except for the Aliens.

You will use my sarcasm against me? And yes, my feet are very well thank you. Perhaps you should go back to school also. -
Thank you for giving it a reply. After Higgly complains about the irrelevant threads, I thought I would dig up this one. It was covered in the Buffalo media recently. The forum is Canada/US relations, and this certainly is relevant, but strangely Higgly and crowd made no comment, yet he continues to bump his irrelevant thread.

Higgly, the one who is always right and used to love to use profanity (until punished by the principal), and Remiel, the one who still has to finish school. Read any good political books lately? He could of been a great scholar. -
You have brought up many interesting issues. You are obviously passionate about Israel. I am not so passionate, and my concern about Israel is Israel=US and US=Israel to most of the world. Canada gets a pass. Germany gets a pass, and on and on. For that reason, I agree with Carter that there should be debate, just as you have done, debate him (Carter). I see nothing on TV about why this or how did that happen. Perhaps Al Jazerra should be broadcast into the US. Perhaps there would be a fuller debate of the how and why of the conflict. I do not like Carter, thought he was a bad President, and only agree with him on this issue that there should be debate. Further, there should be debate as to where is the rest of the world when it comes to this IS/PA problem. Truth is, I am concerned that there will never be peace over there, and the problem keeps getting worse year after year. Even if it is not the cause of xyz problem, it is used as the excuse for the cause., and again the "=" sign. In addition, I do not see Israel as strategicly or economically important to the US, Because I am a US citizen I believe I have a stake in what happens over there because of the '=' factor. Finally, cut and run has got to be an option sometime in the future, or/and let Europe guarantee Israeli security. Some think France gave them the atomic bomb, perhaps they will have to use it to make a point. I am all for the US stop acting as a policeman. There is no real benefit to it, only pain, expense, and death.

It is more complicated than that. Antisemitism is different from an observation that perhaps there is Jewish control over issues close to the heart of Jewish people. No, there is probably not a concious conspiracy, but there probably is an unconcious one. The Jewish people are incredibly wealthy as a group. They are not only wealthy, they control businesses. Some of those businesses influence thought and arguement. The media business is one of them. It is not logical to believe that the slant of media arguement might be influenced by ethnic background? In a controled society, they call it censorship. In a free society they call it capitalism, or who has the most money and power.

http://maroon.uchicago.edu/online_edition/...tes-of-america/ Even though we are neighbours, Americans do not tend to think of Canada much. As a Canadian, I’ve been treated like a discovered distant relative with whom you have more in common than you could possibly imagine. Often I am told that I am, for all intents and purposes, one of you. Yet in spite of all the goodwill between our two countries, there is also much that divides us bitterly. Anti-Americanism is endemic in Canada:..... This fellow has a chinese name, goes to the U of Chicago, but is a genuine Canuck. It basicly sounds as though the US should not act as world policeman, even though it has been a force for good, Hummm. Also, Anti-Americanism is endemic in Canada, Hummm

http://www.cbc.ca/canadaus/gallery/gfx/5.gif This cartoon exemplifys the Chretien government's anti-American scorched earth campaign which culminated in Canada's refusal to offer even moral support as the U.S., Britain and Australia marched off to confront Saddam. Backbench liberals sniped, Cabinet Minister Herbie Dhaliwal smeared President Bush, the Prime Minister blathered sanctimoniously, and heir apparent Paul Martin remained conspicuously silent. We turned our back on our best friend and biggest trading partner in a time of need and abandoned our traditional commonwealth allies. Canada will pay an economic price for the course that our government has charted, and rightly so. After all, unlike Saddam, these Liberal clowns calling the shots in Ottawa were duly elected by a majority of Canadians and continue to lead in the polls. It is to weep! Cartoonist: Jim Bradford Published: March 20th, 2003 in the Sault Star This cartoon is dated, but gives the same theme of those who elect, are responsible for those who are elected. -
http://clinton.senate.gov/news/statements/...s.cfm?id=264008 Washington, DC – Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today released a report that details the devastating impact of Canadian trade practices on New York’s farmers and growers. The report, compiled by the Senator’s office, with the help of the New York Apple Association, the New York Horticulture Society, the Northeast Council of Dairy Cooperatives, the New York Farm Bureau and the Empire State Potato Growers, details the impact of Canadian subsidies and trade barriers on dairy, fruits, vegetables, wine and agricultural products and concludes that while Canadian growers have little problem accessing New York markets for their produce, New York farmers and growers experience severe restrictions on selling their products in Canada. (You can download the pdf file of the full report with link given in article.) This from possibly the next president.

Talk about moronic assertions. The US is not directly responsible for the sorry state of Iraq. It is idiotic to claim such. The Iraqi people, at least some of them are the ones responsible for the sorry state of their own sorry country. This area was part of mankinds earliest civilized roots, but they have seemed to have forgotten them. -

David Duke suggests that there is faulty translations of statements. Since I do not speak farsi, who knows. Al Jazerra is not available in English, but is not picked up by the cable companies. Again, who knows. Is what you say true or not, do you really know? -
Are you Jewish? I am already circumsized, done many years ago. You sound a little out of control. If you really want to blow up, go to www.DavidDuke.com and his interview with Blitzer on CNN. In it he suggests the control of American Military by Israel. It makes you wonder. Democrats elected to get out of Iraq, they get elected, watch, they will not get out. It will be expanded.

All you are doing is illustrating YOUR faulty logic. Your bias is quite evident to all, and your spin doctoring "trying" is poorly done. You need to read a few more political books. -

This evening I saw Flags of Our Fathers. It is about Iwo Jima and the after lives of those who raised the flag. It is an interesting story. The country had become tired of the war, and was broke. The flag raisers were used to raise money for the war. I think now that the atom bomb was used not only to save American lives, but perhaps to save money. Save money which was not available anyway. Somewhat the same situation as with Iraq. The hell with Japan, the hell with Iraq, enough is enough.
