Here's my question: Is Quebec even remotely as compliant in favor of English, as the rest of the country is forced to be? 90% of hearsay says no, but I've never been and will probably never go.

Oh yeah. It's the #1 straw-man argument drawn by pride supporters.

Is it OK to insult Islam in Canada?

No but when the rider comes off and the head contacts the pavement, I don't imagine the results are going to be pretty. 1 The following persons are exempt from the requirements of section 221 of the Motor Vehicle Act: Such things aren't that common now, but the rate at which they are being added is frightening. -

When you have Religious beliefs taking precedence over judicial preceding, IE: 'People riding motorcycles in turbans but still getting access to state health care after they crash,' you guarantee that the two interact together toward a common goal. -

Wasn't my intent to get into specifics or defend Mark Steyn, just an example of precedent, and what the 'judicial' consequences are. -
Yup. Said tax dollars can be used to pay the lawyers for the human rights tribunal complaints.

Agreed. Stampede shouldn't get a penny either. If these festivities bring in so much money they should be able to support themselves.

Is any of this green stuff really making a difference? We smelt nickel utterly devastating local ecosystems, to put the batteries in hybrid cars with efficiency so poor that they don't further curb emissions. How much energy is required to make reusable shopping bags? What happens to the mercury in CFL's? How does Cap N' Trade reduce emissions when energy consumption is increasing? In the last 10 years of the global warming frenzy, have we done one significant thing to reduce the destruction of natural environments? But if one follows the money, it's pretty plain that a lot of people are making a pile of cash. In the long run, to really even start at change, I'd offer that this graph has to change significantly: Energy Consumption

I think freedom of religion pretty much guarantees there can be no separation between church and state. And Mark Steynproved that it is OK to offend religion, but damn expensive because our kangaroo court sees fit to impose court and defense costs on people, regardless of just how frivolous the accusations are. That in itself is already a punishment. -

Flawed statistics. The number of degrees I've seen from Mickey Mouse U, yet you try to teach, when this light goes on, press this button.......I'm not surprised employers choose not to recognize credentials. Don't blame them either. -
I don't believe that standing somewhere holding a sign offers a shred of influence anywhere. Protesting is becoming archaic via rapid fire internet and handheld communications. Opinions are swayed in seconds electronically. That being said, I don't not support the war enough to actually speak out against it, nor support enough to put a ribbon on my car. Ultimate fence sitter. Don't like all the people dying, especially in Iraq, don't like that my friend came home in a box from Afghanistan, but in reality, if I was going to get that upset over these things surely I would have gone insane by now from the est. 40,000 people that die of starvation every day. Surely North American resource consumption has killed far more innocent civilians than our armed forces ever will. In that sense, we are all hypocrites.

I don't support Iraq or Afghanistan, never did. Never protested or stood in support of anything, however in this point, I completely agree. If troops are going to be deployed in a combat zone, they should receive every reasonable assistance to stay alive, regardless of political circumstance. I really think this is starting to change under Harper, with the new Herc's & such, but you can probably shed better light on that. From the outside, it appears to have been a really bad 30 years.

Polish President Killed in Plane Crash
Handsome Rob replied to nicky10013's topic in The Rest of the World
They don't use ILS in Russia, similar technology, it's called PRMG. The two are incompatible, the Polish Aircraft was modified to use western ILS, unable to use the Russian type. Regardless Smolensk has no precision instrument facilities on the ground. This is what they were trying to do: -
Slam The Doors On Immigration
Handsome Rob replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Very broad statement. My boss (The Mrs.) was born overseas and is very much Canadian. My workplace is flooded with immigrants, as a white anglo-saxon male, I am very much a visible minority. However the overwhelming majority of those born in Canada are Canadianized per se. They may hold onto the language, and different food, but that's pretty much it. They still watch American television, buy consumer products en masse, speak english well, etc, etc. It's not uncommon to see things like Indian girls leaving home in traditional dress, headed for the club with mini-skirts the the parents don't know about hidden in the purse. -

Depends how you keep score. If money is the only means, then agreed. But when we print somebody a passport, we accept them as a Canadian. Does a Canadian not deserve to be able to bring there grandparents here? Should we all be slaving away at an infinite number of typewriters, ever pursuing that bottom line? Or should we try and build a nice place to live, where we can have some economic productions, and some losses that are traded for quality of life? I'd like to live in the second one, that's how I view present Canada, although I think we've moved much to far away from the bottom line and we're paying for it now. -
Not trying to cover up anything. How specifically is this a screwup? They killed guys carrying rocket propelled grenades, something clearly shown in the audio of the 40 minute video, not so clearly displayed in the video itself, and confirmed by the investigation released that it appears you won't read. It was the Iraqi forces that cleaned the site up afterword and dealt with them, surely they would mention something, no? How can somebody carrying a rocket propelled grenade be deemed an innocent civilian? As I stated above, there are many well documented failures, people have been punished, others have gone quietly. What specifically makes this video significant, besides the fact that they actually killed the right guys? Absolutely. I think they have it worse. They watch on this: http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/apache-helicopter-49.jpg Bumping through the air at greater than 100 kts, talking to a whole manner of people on the radio, trying to track everything on the ground, with people shooting at you. They've lost over 50 helicopters, including a couple of Apaches. It's far easier to analyze after the fact.

Should we abolish Canada's Human Rights Commissions?
Handsome Rob replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Impulse reaction, opening the can. I find it irritating that we're left with this legacy. And it's not 'only the change I want that counts,' I could care less about Quebec being recognized as a distinct society and such, and I more than happily make peace with the fact, that I have to deal with things that I don't like but other people need. If more people thought like me, it wouldn't be a Polish Parliament, concessions are possible, from all parties. Not only possible, but necessary. -
Close. It was Herr Chretien's little red book. Whole heartedly agree. You'd be surprised at what Immigrants have to contribute just to immigrate. How much it costs, how much money they have to raise and provide proof of to get dependents in. I'd say the loudmouth types crying represent a very small minority, the majority are just trying to get by.

Wow. Kind of speechless. With the looming retirement of the baby boomers, somebody has to pay the compounding medical costs and social services though. Who will that be, we as Canadians certainly aren't providing them. I think they really ought to encourage having Children. Further programs to cut taxes for child bearing families, and eliminate them for single mothers. -
Not just Vets. I am not one, but will remember friends lost. We're not all vicarious a-holes. I can understand the good things that come from the deployment in Afghanistan, but in the big picture, WTF is any westerner doing there? Do they even know what the strategic goal is? Or is it changing yearly like Iraq? Elimination of the Taliban? Will that ever happen, for every one you kill, their are 9 more to take his place?

Should we abolish Canada's Human Rights Commissions?
Handsome Rob replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Absolutely not. People make a choice to follow such things. People make a choice what clothes to wear. People do not make a choice what color their skin is, what language they were raised with, and often but not always, their sexual orientation. The differences there, to me, are plain as day. -

Tell that to Meech Lake & Charlotte town. Changing the name of Nfld or creating Nunavit don't exactly count. The phrase functional was carefully chosen, because any sort of an issue that exposes just how polarized Canada is in West VS East (Sometimes Including Quebec) VS Quebec all other times, rapidly degrades into a Polish Parliament. Fairly safe to say, Poland proved, this doesn't work. Regardless, off topic and a whole 'nother can of worms.
