  1. http://www.canada.com/topics/news/story.ht...15-a34c8a722ef4 I'm not a fan of the NDP, but I'm always surprised that they don't ever even get a sniff at the opposition. Not surprised at all with Dion coming in third in the poll though.
  2. I could not disagree more. Anyone can run candidates. Having candidates is not a measure of political viability, electability is. If having candidates in every riding becomes the new standard, every fringe party will just make sure that they have that and chaos will ensue. Enough elected members to achieve official party status is the only real way for a party to prove that they have anything close to the support that they claim they have. Comparing the Greens to the Bloc is largely a smokescreen. If the Greens objections to the Bloc were realized, it would be more likely result in the exclusion of the Bloc, not the inclusion of the Green. I'm not so sure that would be a bad thing either.
  3. It'll be pretty tough to keep burning fossil fuels if we really do run out. Won't the problem have taken care of itself then?
  4. The NDP has been nothing but bad for Manitoba. They remain popular for one reason only: People are stupid.
  5. 12. Once they have elected 12, and are an official party, then they will have earned their spot.
  6. The number of people who believe either side is irrelevant. The truth is still true even if nobody believes it, and bullshit is still bullshit even if everyone believes it.
  7. Thousands of scientists disagree with the AGW hypothesis. No, they don't all agree with this particular scientist, but that's how science works. People test and falsify each others ideas to find the real answers. It's the polar opposite of how the AGW proponents work. They came up with the conclusion first, then fabricated the evidence to fit the models they came up with, then shout down anyone who actually wants to challenge their conclusions.
  8. Computer companies seem to think otherwise. Apple is currently suing a small computer maker for installing legally purchased copies of OS X on the machines they make. This is an after sale value added transaction, and yet Apple clearly has a case that their end user agreement has been violated because installing the OS on anything other than an Apple brand computer is forbidden.
  9. Unfortunately you learned a tough lesson that all men have to learn eventually; Women are evil.
  10. For some reason I had it in my head that official party status required 3 seats. I now realize I was mistaken, and was actually being too generous. The actual required number of seats is 12. If IFs and BUTs were candy and nuts, we'd all have a happy hanukkah. Everyone else has had to elect their members using the existing system. If the Greens really were anything close to the "major party" their supporters keep claiming they are, they'd have the seats. They don't, so they aren't. Why do you think YOUR favorite party should have status, but someone else's should be illegal? Are you in favor of equal treatment, or just special favors for you?
  11. Minorities ARE different. Fixed election dates only have relevance if the government cannot be defeated before the set election. Unless you are in favor of minorities being given 51% of all votes in the house anyway, you have no legitimate complaint here.
  12. I would strongly support that.
  13. You commit a crime in another country, you get punished according to their laws. Interfering in that process is not something I want our government involved in. Unless they have evidence that the person is falsely accused, staying out of it is the correct action to take.
  14. No they aren't. They still have yet to elect a single candidate. No chance that they should even be considered to participate in the debate before the ELECT at least 3 MPs.
  15. People always say that, but Manitoba has always recognized both french and english as official languages since its inception. All goverment departments must provide services in French if requested. Not every person on staff has to be bilingual, but every office has to have people that can speak either language. All government documents are issued in both languages (tickets too). Our stop signs are bilingual for crying out loud!! Even in France stop signs just say "STOP". If that isn't bilingual, what is?
  16. Bull****. The reports did not cease to exist on Tuesday. If anything, it gave the opposition EXTRA time to pour over them and be ready for a full media attack when the public would be listening. The reason they didn't make a big splash is not because they were burried, it was because there was nothing newsworthy there.
  17. I does work both ways though. The business owner is the only one who should decide what language is on anything related to his/her business. If they want to make all signage, advertising, etc, in Swahili, that is their decision to make, not the rest of the town or its elected council. Even if not a single person in said town speaks Swahili. ANY edict that dictates otherwise is overt fascism.
  18. We've had cooler temperatures all over the world for going on two years now, and no warming for almost ten. Doesn't stop the mainstream media from constantly reporting continued warming anyway. "Everything is fine" doesn't sell, "disaster, panic" does.
  19. Burying the reports would mean that they didn't release them. They were made public. This is a non-issue.
  20. The "previous business" one is going be stretched beyond credulity. I can see it now: "You have shopped in a mall, we are partially owned by a company that owns another company that has products that are sold in malls, therefore you are a customer of ours." Then there's the infamous, "you filled out a ballot" line.
  21. Agreed. The exceptions account for virtually all of the annoying phone calls I get, and would be the ones I most would want blocked.
  22. How does a timer on your dryer save you any money? The clothes need to be dried, it takes as long as it takes, and the dryer automatically shuts off when the clothes are dry (even if there is more time left). How does delaying when the cycle starts make any difference to the energy consumption?
  23. If they are right, why do they get caught lying so often? If you have the truth, why tell huge fibs to exaggerate your position?
  24. The pragmatic choice would be to defer until the alarmists can provide factual evidence for their claims.
  25. Consensus is not science. Nor is it evidence of fact. A lie is still a lie, even if everyone believes it.
