Conservative Party Logo on Government cheque

Much ado about nothing. If this is what constitutes a controversy, that only goes to prove what a great job the Conservatives are doing otherwise. -
Bureaucrats objected to gov't ad campaign: sources
Bryan replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Whiny Liberal hacks making low blow attacks at the Government? I'm sure we will. -
At this point, I'm beginning to think that the Nobel selection committee consists of the editorial staff at The Onion.

Liberals looking to defect to the Tories
Bryan replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Just because one guy spoke out of turn, does not mean that the CPC, it's membership, or it's supporters were ready to welcome defecting Liberals. The overwhelming majority of Conservatives are not interested in adding Liberal baggage at this time. People have different opinions, and Alykhan Velshi's opinions are his and his alone. And just because the PM has rebuked Velshi for speaking out of turn, doesn't mean that these right leaning LPC MPs don't exist. There are several reporters who claim to have spoken directly to these MPs. If they are accepted, there's going to be a significant outcry from CPC members, not a celebration. Sure it could happen, but Conservatives for the most part won't like it. Again this depends on who it is. The oft-rumoured Ruby Dhalla? No way. -
Liberals looking to defect to the Tories
Bryan replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No they weren't. The nearly universal reaction among Conservatives when they heard these stories was "no f-ing way". The Liberal party is imploding quite nicely on it's own, we don't need to get involved. -
You say this often enough that we could base a drinking game on it.

Liberals looking to defect to the Tories
Bryan replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It totally depends on who they are. Most of them, no. In fact, I'm quite certain that's exactly what happened; several Liberal MPs probably did come to the Conservatives asking to be let in, and Harper showed them the door. -
Liberals looking to defect to the Tories
Bryan replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course, that is in stark contrast to Don Martin's claim that he has personally spoken to the as-yet-unnamed Liberal MPS who have confirmed to him that they are indeed thinking about defecting. The truth is, it's clear that a lot of current Liberal MPs are wondering what they are doing on this sinking ship, and that leaving the party is one of the things that they are at least considering. -
Martin had no idea what he was doing. He collected the GST money that Mulroney implemented and his party was so dead set against, he benefitted greatly from the increased revenue from Mulroney's free trade agreements that the Liberals also fiercely opposed. Then he stole billions from EI and offloaded billions more onto the provinces. Then he started claiming a "surplus" that never existed.

How much socialism does the US already have?
Bryan replied to GostHacked's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It's not socialism itself that Americans (or Canadians for that matter) don't like. Most of them openly embrace it without even realizing it. It's just the word that they don't like. -
I know people who are very healthy and have great appetites who are stick thin. These people naturally exist, it's not necessarily an issue. They also happen to have the look fashion designers are looking for. So what?

In my wife's case, she works for the government, and annual flu shots are always been mandatory in her department. No, she's not in health care either.

The line; "I get high with a little help from my friends" is a pretty good clue. Harper didn't change it when he sang it either. Harper isn't going to have a music career when his political one is over, but he certainly did not embarrass himself. He definitely needs to do more of these kinds of things that show his real softer side as opposed to contrived "image" projections.
-
I don't know either. Manitobans are hard to judge. There's a huge contingent who would only ever choose between NDP or Conservative/PC, never Liberal. It defies logic.
-
It's not a technicality. It's the bang on fact. This nation, Canada, has never colonized anyone. The creative lawyering is all yours. It's like trying to blame the crimes of a parent on their children with the excuse that the parents either couldn't be found or are dead.

Conservatives - the Natural Governing Party?
Bryan replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Absolutely. Even the most hard core right wingers in the CPC brass are adamantly against pushing anything on people who don't want it. They want to slowly incrementally pull the country toward the them, not foist extreme conservatism on people who aren't ready to receive it yet. -
Kevin Paige- PBO about to be fired by Harper.
Bryan replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm really torn about wether getting rid of paige is a good idea. One one hand, he clearly has overtstepped his bounds on several occasions. He's being more of an activist predicting just about anything that contradicts the government instead of reporting facts. On the other hand, I don't think the optics would be good at all. Even if replacing him is totally justified, you know that is not the spin that the CBC, CTV, Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, etc will put on it. They'll claim it's "a lack of transparency", laced with copious crazy quotes from moonbat opposition MPs like Hedy Fry and Thomas Mulcair. -
As a Conservative, my choice would be for Selinger to win. The financial mess the NDP have left this province in (several billion in deficit off the books while claiming a balanced budget) will be much easier to pin on the finance minister during an election.
-
Canada is not the UK. Canada has never colonized any other independent country. The statement is accurate.

This is what I've been saying since the 2006 Liberal Leadership Convention. Ignatieff will be easier to beat than Dion, Rae even more so.
-
That depends on your definition of "force". Many people, my wife included, have mandatory vaccination policies at work. Sure, they don't strap her down and physically force her, she does have a choice: she can quit her job.
-
And that's without even having an actual election campaign for Ignatieff. The more he talks, the lower his support. An election campaign with him at the Liberal helm will be glorious entertainment.

Tories to table EI benfits for self employed!
Bryan replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Where is the reversal? -
Patently ridiculous allegations from Hedy Fry. I suppose she wanted the Oly logo to be a burning cross. Is that a diplomatic 'no direct personal attacks' way of saying that "he's lying as usual"?
