  1. Is there some secret riding where they have two-for-one voting?
  2. Harper is right in the middle, with a slight leftward lean. If he looks far to the right to you, that means you're a lot farther left than you think you are.
  3. How is it unfair? Everyone knows how the system works, they all have to abide by the same rules. In 1993, both Reform and the BQ went from essentially nothing to 52 and 54 seats, the PCs only got two seats even though they got more votes than the BQ. Two brand new entrants became entrenched into the system and permanently replaced an established one! The lesson is, they learned how the system worked and made it work for them, rather than crying that it's not fair.
  4. I've had it done to me by the Liberals as well. These are closed events, that's just how it goes. The difference is, other party supporters aren't bitchy little girls that run to their media friends every time they don't get their way. If a non-Liberal supporter who was turned away went to he media, you know damn well the story would be exactly the opposite: that the LPC had to deal with a trouble-maker.
  5. Parliament has been dissolved, the government is still functioning and Stephen Harper is still the Prime Minister.
  6. From the blog "Uncommon Truths": Ain't that the truth!
  7. Yes, unfortunately, for all of the parties. During a national campaign, they are especially paranoid about keeping anyone out that they even remotely suspect of being a possible disruption.
  8. The real question is, is Ignatieff plagiarizing Obama's "Mother" ad? Obama: Ignatieff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vwg9xQgqzy8&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL The only moral here is there's nothing new under the sun.
  9. They both look like a thousand other "movie trailer" style ads.
  10. That is funny. I posted almost immediately after you. No idea why it didn't show up until hours later!
  11. Soldiers. In Our Streets. With. Guns.
  12. You said 'hard on'.
  13. 5.6 percentage-point margin of error.
  14. ...make for a fine whine.
  15. http://www.nationalpost.com/todays-paper/Mayturns+down+debate+with+fringe+partyleaders/4558702/story.html Mayturns down debate with fringe partyleaders I think my irony meter is broken....
  16. I agree. It just doesn't look good.
  17. The optics are bad, for sure. It's one of those things that I'm sure they wish they could do differently, yet will probably also begrudgingly do exactly the same way if it comes up again. The problem is, they do need to manage potential disruptions, and students are the ones most likely to do something disruptive for disruption's sake. Left-leaning ones, especially so. It's just a free rally, it's not like she had something terrible done to her. By the time they figure out why she's got a picture of herself with the opposition leader, it would have been over anyway. One suggestion I would make to the party is to do this kind of screening at the online registration stage. You do have to sign up in advance to go, so just hold back on the confirmation of their spot until you check their red flags. I'm guessing the party's answer would be that they running an election, not a babysitting service.
  18. My sentiment towards the Green Party itself (or Elizabeth May at the very least), IS as you say "put up or shut up", on that you are correct. They aren't taking the idea of running a political campaign seriously. They are operating as a lobby group, not a political party, and making demands on the system that was in place long before they came around. Whether any of us thinks it or says it or not, the end result is the same: they won't follow the rules in place that everyone else who stated from nothing had to follow, then have the nerve to complain that they are hard done by. If they were even remotely serious, they would worry about winning a seat first before they even tried to act on the national stage. That's how everyone else did it: start with a local grassroots movement, and branch out from there. YOU, on the other hand: Please, explain how your opinion differs, and why you think that the Greens have a right to dictate that Parliamentary Democracy should be changed to suit them.
  19. No. I was referring to the strategy of the Green Party, not whether YOU can say anything about it.
  20. I never said or implied any such thing. I only gave my opinion, which just so happened to be counter to yours. Feel free say whatever you like.
  21. There were given that spot, something no other fledgeling party was ever given, and they still couldn't get even one seat. Everyone else (CCF, Reform, Social Credit, Bloc, etc) has needed to show that they can elect representatives, and got the recognition that they deserved when they did so. Stop fighting the system we've got, and learn to work within it like everyone else.
  22. Does your brain actually believe this list, or are you just trolling for arguments?
  23. Where did you cut and paste this from?
  24. You seem to think that they're running in a different country. Local representation is what the national seats are comprised of.
