Compas has released the numbers for that poll I linked to this morning: Large Conservative Majority CPC - 45 LPC - 24 NDP - 16 GRN - 7 BQ - 8 Regional: Ontario: CPC - 49 LPC - 32 NDP - 13 GRN - 6 Quebec: BQ - 37 CPC - 25 NDP - 19 LPC - 13 GRN - 5 http://www.compas.ca/data/110413-NationalElectionPoll_Prt1-VoteIntentions-EPCB.pdf

How awesome would it have been if he actually said that? That's all that people would have been talking about today.

Ignatieff was quoting Chairman Mao. Not his brightest moment. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/CanadaVotes/News/2011/04/12/17972976.html

On that note, the real winner is the Canadian public... for being spared the torture of listening to May's incoherent shrieking.

Quebec Liberal candidate accused of being a white supremecist
Bryan replied to Bryan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
John Reilly was on Rutherford last week tryting to defend his decision in a molestation case that in his own words involved digital penetration. Is that that same one you're talking about? -
Strange story with this Compas Poll: http://www.winnipegsun.com/news/decision2011/2011/04/12/17974236.html Tories destined for a majority They don't include the actual numbers, which leads me to believe that the first sentence of the article must be a typo: 21 points? And they don't show the break down? Nothing on Compas' site yet either. Also claims to be the largest poll so far of the campaign. 2,300 polled, 2.1% MOE.

Harper certainly came across as the most credible candidate for office, but Layton's zingers were awesome. His line about Ignatieff not showing up for work then expecting a promotion was the closest thing to a knock-out punch there was.

Why isn't Canadian Sovereignty an Election issue?
Bryan replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There isn't a shred of truth to this accusation. Some of the most stridently anti-american people I've ever met were at CPC meetings. Canadian Conservatism is a decidedly different animal from the American one. Making our country stand out on its own merits is the goal, not mimicking another one. If anything, it's the left in Canada that is obsessed with the US. -
This will be very telling. Jack's real support right now has been drained by the Liberals. If he's taking this seriously, he's going to go after Ignatieff with both barrels, and mostly ignore Harper. Attacking Harper would do nothing for Jack, because very few CPC voters would swing straight to the NDP anyway. My inclination would be that Harper will probably not go hard after the opposition. I think he wants them to pile on like they did in the last debate, while he calmly lets them take their shots. It makes them look desperate. No matter what Ignatieff does, the media will probably declare him the winner. Anything short of a complete mental breakdown on his part will seem so much better than what even his own supporters are expecting that it'll look great by comparison. As long as Ignatieff doesn't pee on his shoes, people will be impressed with him. Duceppe? Whatever he says or does is a waste of everyone's time. He should be limited in his role in the debate. When the Socreds were down to being only being represented in Quebec, Caouette only got to join in to a later segment of the debates, not the whole thing, specifically because he wasn't running in the rest of Canada.

Dead people seldom reoffend too. I'd love to see us incorporate caning into our penal code. That would be a day to truly be proud.

The Ridiculous State of Canada's Legal System

Despicable Comment by an NDP Candidate

CPC's track record for veracity outstrips the media and the opposition by several orders of magnitude. -

Something is funny about that. Is it that the LPC didn't deem it important enough to follow through with the announced firing, or is having someone step down strictly an honour system type of thing? Either way, that's strange. -
Why are Liberals lying about Ignatieff's past again?
Bryan replied to Bryan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Despite his frequent claims otherwise, no, he is not any kind of US citizen -- dual or otherwise. -
Margin of error for Ontario is 5.7 percentage points. That's huge. All of the movement is within half of the MOE. In other words, no change at all.

Winner.

Despicable Comment by an NDP Candidate
Bryan replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It wasn't a Tweet from the NDP candidate. Parry Sound NDP candidate Dr Wendy Wilson allegedly made the remark in public at an all candidates forum. So far only bloggers have picked up the story, so Clement put it out there on his twitter. -
There is no doubt that heads will have to roll not only for leaking this clearly confidential draft document, but for the clear and obvious media bias involved in sitting on said document, only to spring it as if it were some sort of scandal the day before the debate. Whomever was involved in leaking the document needs to be both fired and prosecuted. And Joan Dryden? If Harper does get his majority, it is going to really suck to be her for the next four years. What Goodale issue in 2006? The speculation as to whether he'd run for LPC leadership or not? Or are you referring to how Goodale threw Serge Nadeau under the bus to avoid being criminally charged when he leaked inside information about income trusts in 2005? As far as who may have informed on the Finance department to the RCMP, all roads there lead to the NDP. Judy Wasylycia-Leis in particular seemed to have a direct line to the RCMP at the time. The biggest difference between this and the AG draft report though, is it was the RCMP themselves who went public with the investigation, not some anonymous opposition member or the press. There's no doubt that both the timing (during an election) and the fact that the RCMP actually publicly confirmed it (which they usually do not do) was bizarre.

Neglecting health care? What are you smoking? The Liberals cut health care spending, the Conservatives are the ones who increased health care transfers to the province.

Interesting that the Vancouver Sun chose to only report on two of the questions asked by Ipsos-Reid for that poll. There's a lot more fun data in the rest of it: http://www.ipsos-na.com/news-polls/pressrelease.aspx?id=5196 The only category where Ignatieff doesn't come in third place is "Hidden Agenda" where he's in first place. The thing that I'm finding particularly interesting is how different the party leaders' scores are from their party. Harper's popularity is far higher than the Conservative Party itself, Layton's is better than the NDP too, but Ignatieff is polling well below the Liberals. The Harper numbers in particular are really fascinating. Not long ago, it was the opposite: CPC polled fair to middling, but Harper was the one people really disliked. I wonder if this is mostly a case of "the devil you know"?

The thread went like this: After which, you started talking about other countries. Harper and Ignatieff are running for government in Canada. What may be standard convention in another country doesn't necessarily fly here, regardless of those other countries' similar histories.
-
"And", this is a Canadian Politics forum. Other countries can go ahead and do what they do, doesn't make it "standard" here.

Why are Liberals lying about Ignatieff's past again?
Bryan replied to Bryan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Are you claiming that the Supreme Court of Canada does NOT make new law? Its decisions are binding upon all lower courts of Canada. Making new law is what it does. -

The independent nation of Canada's legal constitution is the 1982 Act. Under BNA, we were still a British dominion. -
Don't be obtuse. Other westminster parliamentary democracies are not Canada.
