No they were not. Stop with this ridiculous propaganda.

I changed FROM the Liberals before, I'm not sure what it would take for me to ever go back, but it would have to be pretty big.

Youth threatened by growing disparity.
Bryan replied to Rocky Road's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My university education was completely unrelated to my career. That's normal. I worked in an art studio with someone with an MSc. Once they were done with school, they just realized that wasn't what they wanted to do for a job. I think we do emphasize university too much. Its biggest result is big debt in a lot of people that are still going to end up doing jobs that don't require the education anyway. Somebody still needs to dig ditches. -
More of a Reynolds guy are you?
-
The good job they are doing is the reason why I'm writing that cheque. I'm under no obligation to do so. I've changed political parties before, I'm sure it could happen again.

If there was anything that was torqued or sensationalized int he ads, you might have a point. There are two ads. One is a matter of fact list of how badly Rae managed a fairly mild recession, the other is an account of how well our current government is handling one of the worst recession of all time. We do have the most open and accountable government we've ever had.

I was responding to the post previous to mine that contained the link. Here it is again: http://www.tradingeconomics.com/canada/unemployment-rate The lowest unemployment rate we've ever had was in 2007. No matter how you crunch the numbers, things were far worse at several points in the 80's and 90's. Not only are we not at record highs right now, we are well below the historical average.
-
Even 6 years is ridiculously light. It should have been a minimum of 10 years PER offense.
-
What exactly would an "overly harsh" sentence be for multiple counts of raping children?
-
No kidding. We went through some really mild recessions compared to this one with significantly worse economic results. Unemployment was much higher at several points in the 80's and 90's. Taxes and interest rates were substantially higher too. I think what Topaz might have gotten mixed up is that the Conservatives presided over the LOWEST unemployment rate in our history. That really is starting to get old, isn't it? I mean, I get it that lefties don't like the Conservatives, and I get it that politics is going to invite debate. But what is the deal with so many of the left-wing posters on this site thinking that just posting outright lies is a legitimate form of debate?

Who's putting words in your mouth? The problem is, as usual, you're talking out of both sides of it. Lenient sentences are not OK, but doing something to stop them is not OK either. People complaining about pedophiles are just emotional, a bunch of heartless meanies, right? Mandatory minimums absolutely are necessary, and this sentence is the proof.
-
Where is your evidence to support that? Very little that Maher and McGregor have reported on the Robocalls has turned out to be true so far.
-
Really? Then you're OK with a judge being able to just accept that this pig was remorseful and humiliated enough to warrant such a small sentence? There is no way in hell a judge should have any leeway when it comes to things like this. You give them an out to let scumbags off, and they'll do it. A crime like this should be a minimum of 10 yrs per offence.
-
Are there people STILL opposed to mandatory minimum sentences now?
-
Not if the reason for the pseudonym is so that they do not have to talk to the public, also not if there is no such actual person. I worked at a studio once where there were five of us who 'worked as' the same name. If someone phoned and asked for that person, they'd just get a made up story as to why she wasn't available.
-
I listed a lot of other jobs that commonly use pseudonyms. Call centres are definitely one of them.
-
Much. It's very common for the names associated with a web-based business to not be real. That anonymity is one of the advantages of being web-based.
-
Great company. They treat their creators really well, never try to interfere with the creative process, and they respect the privacy of their creators (many of whom do not publish under their real names).
-
People in marketing and web development use pseudonyms all the time. For the same reasons as the other jobs I listed. Also, in some cases, the fake name isn't even a real person at all. For some companies, there might be several different people who might at one time or another operate as that name. It's not so much that they identify with that name, so much as acting as that name is their job. Another reason why people use fake names is they don't want certain clients to be aware that they are working for another company. Coke might not like it that you also work for Pepsi, Marvel did not like it if we did work for DC at the same time, etc. I also worked in a studio once that did not like their employees having their own freelance clients.

I'm a graphic artist. I used to work exclusively on comic books, but now I do a wide range of different kinds of books and other projects. I've been credited as a pseudonym, I've had clients who only knew me by a pen name. I've even had clients who credited me as the name of a completely different real person. That actually happens a lot too, for artists and writers. Like I said, I know teachers who do it. Social workers too actually. It's really, really common for people who deal with the public or have their names put out in public to use fake names.
-
I'm not, but notice it took you less than a minute to think of two jobs where people do regularly use fake names. Now think about all the artists, actors, singers, dancers, musicians, writers, broadcasters, etc in this country. A lot of them use a different name for business. I know several teachers who do the same as well.
-
Depending on the project, sometimes I do. Many of the people I work with ALWAYS use a fake name. It's very common in many industries, especially anything dealing with media, publishing, entertainment, etc.
-
I'm not changing anything, I responded directly to the point you were addressing. Same reason you're using 'stopstaaron' , he wants to keep his private life private. No it isn't. It's done all the time, In some industries it's highly unusual for people to not use a pseudonym. People appreciate their privacy.
