  1. Here is another story about 'Solar Ship'that is looking to do the same sort of things for remote areas. Toronto start-up designs solar-powered hybrid aircraft
  2. Who says it is?
  3. LOFL! A neat substitute for laziness. Blame the media.
  4. A revealing statement of definition (of yours) that you are personally refuting: That God is a "he" and that "he" would intervene to prevent starvation deaths of children in poor countries. This sounds like the classic 'God-in-thine-own-image' definition where you have defined God in your own image and then, because of your personal moral needs and wants not being fulfilled, God cannot possibly exist. If you are female, the classic father-figure replacement is just as valid, with the father-figure replacing 'thine-own-image.' The Gnostics might disagree with your definition.
  5. That's it? $.50 per tax payer? Oh. Wait. It is being "raped" from our "pockets." That changes everything since rape is both immoral and against the law. But... do you think that $10 million could be an investment of sorts? We help then find "...deposed dictator Moammar Gadhafi’s unaccounted for weapons of mass destruction..." and they cut us a deal on their oil. Or buy our products, wheat maybe?
  6. I maybe wrong, but I am betting you haven't even bothered to look for CBC financials and budget information. Fair is fair though. Hardner mentioned someone like you in another thread - someone who has difficulty searching the Internet for government information, so he has a point.
  7. Who would you prefer to have the tendency to determine what Canadian means - FOX? Pretty much, on the average, yeah. Now it's you are have the tendency to determine what "Canadian" means complete with political overtones. Let me guess: you work for the CBC. No, it sounds like trolling with old bait.
  8. But they are. I could point out that is merely your opinion not based in fact. Ummm, did you notice it was the top 30? Dig around for the newscasts, specialty channels, etc. I am sure people watch the CBC. Especially people in the different regions of Canada.
  9. "...a swing! ...and a miss." "Scribblet really whiffed on that one Buck." "He sure did Dan." Our rights, are not 'god given', they are given by man.
  10. I see. Then as a firmly footed Utilitarian, it will be easy for you to explain exactly how "taxpayer money" was "wasted." How does this show that there is an overabundance of teachers? In some cases, it shows shortages. Class Size It seems like the various boards do not have enough administration to handle the increase demands. Thus they should hire more administrators, which means more demand for that sector where high school maths and science will be just fine.
  11. Was it? That is, are you stating this as fact? Because if you are, it tells us a lot about you.
  12. I rarely agreed with Earl McRae, but he was fun to read and, at the very least, he got you thinking about things. He took on the causes of the little guy, he was a bit of a goof, he had insightful sports commentary. He was an excellent story teller of Canadiana. The logosphere lost a good one yesterday. Rest in peace, Earl McRae
  13. That communist bastard!
  14. OK, fair point. Let me revisit it. There is a demand for education. Thus we ought to have more teachers. Bitten by your own logic again. There is also a demand for public admininstration, management, legal services - the service sector where science and math isn't all that important. Labour Force Survey, Oct. 11 That's because there aren't very many jobs in those sectors - i.e. they are not in "demand." Where there are fewer job opportunities, there are fewer applicants for those fields. If you are such a math buff, then you will appreciate the reference to Statistics Canada. Anyone with basic high school math can pick up the math required for the above occupations, they don't need a math degree. Can you reference some sort of evidence that shows we have "way too many teachers?" Or are you just citing your opinion and wish to leave it at that? I want spend more money to hire more teachers for smaller classroom sizes to teach are children well. I think that is a most worthy cause for a redistribution of the wealth wouldn't you agree?
  15. Yes they do, by law in fact. You really are striking out a lot lately aren't you scribblet?
  16. Seriously Topaz, you need to learn a little bit more about your country. "Canada" Etymology - Wikipedia So yeah, Canada was Canada when the War of 1812 was fought and yeah Canadians fought in it. I can see that some of the 28 million being spent might even be worth for folks like you.
  17. Not quite. CBC Mandate Some of the top rated shows nationally in the country are on the CBC. This doesn't include the viewership of regional or specialty shows like the Doc channel or CBC news.
  18. So in other words there was no law broken and there is no illegality to it. Right? Only seems that some internal company "privacy" policy was - maybe - broken. Nothing illegal about it at all.
  19. I am sure they do as well as the millions of tourists over the years. But it was used as an example. As are national museums, parks, telecommunications services - all those 'entertainment' things the country owns.
  20. THen what law did Air Canada's investigation and comments say was broken?
  21. The government funds plenty of national publications. The government sponsors or contributes to plenty of national arts programmes, the National Arts Centre for example. The government sponsors plenty of sports, teams, sporting events, etc. Any more?
  22. How do you know that? Did you settle on a definition of "God" and then refute yourself?
  23. Is that your final answer? Because plenty of things "can't survive with private funds," like roads, national defence, General Motors... If you didn't quite think it through, I'll understand.
  24. You are the one stating that "the info was obviously obtained illegally." If it is so obvious, how about you tell us - at the very least - what law was broken?
  25. Interesting little tidbit from the Star starring one of Toronto's eagle eyed best, the bemusing Giorgio Mammoliti. Pay up, city tells Mammoliti Tsk, tsk, tsk Giorgio. One would think that he would cough up the cash toute suite because, you know, austerity is the rule of the day. Now the City has to hire a lawyer and incur more expenses on his behalf...
