Yes... but Germans MAKE STUFF.

Well you said you wanted us to have an export based economy.... So something we can make and export might be useful. LOL.
-
We tried to do that with free trade. Problem is we don't have any competitive advantage in most industries, so the effort made us even MORE dependent on domestic consumption of services. Call it what you want but this is the same approach used by every modern economy on earth for a century... whether it has conservatives or liberals in charge.

The problem is our economy and monetary systems are kinda like a ponzi scheme. If the population stops growing you really run into trouble because you run out of people to borrow money into the economy. And most of that borrowing is done to create new homes and businesses to server an increasing population. Without population increase, the money supply would shrink fast as existing loans were paid off, and less new loans and mortgages were taken out. This is what causes rampant deflation and that's what made the great depression "great". Also we have made all kinds of promises and obligations and borrowed money and created entitles all based on projects that both the population and the economy would grow. We CANT tax the current work force enough to fund all these entitlements over the next few decades. Is it possible to have a high standard of life and a vibrant economy without population growth? Probably... But that's not how our economic system is designed. We would need a whole new system for that.

Not rosey assumptions. The have statistics on how each immigrant class effects GDP, and per capita GPD. Doubling the number of Business and Economic class immigrants would raise immigrant wages 5% which be enough to cause both GDP and per capita GDP to grow. Both of the results are credible and convincing. I know... I can only offer my own opinion based on my own observations and research. I cant speak for "many on the left". Or the "current government". I realize you don't expect me to thanks to your "(not talking about you)" caveat. We NEED to grow the economy and the workforce in order not only finance our stand of life, but to pay for the huge glut of retirees that we are going to have. And we already have a labor shortage which is being addressed by things like immigration and guest worker programs. We are going to need more workers. We either have to better utilize the nation's sperm, uteruses and vaginas to produce more workers, or we need to find them elsewhere.

I wasn't trying to defend Liberal Government policy, so your reply is a bit confusing. Yup but the government already spends a lot on this, and success is limited. This is a trend throughout the whole western world not a Canada thing.

In any case we have the information to guide immigration policy. We know we are going to need MORE immigrants in the near future, and we know that we can increase the benefits of immigration to ALL Canadians by increasing the amount of Economic and Business Class immigrants.
-
There's actually been quite a few studies and there are basic ways to evaluate immigration policy. The latest study done in Canada found that Immigration increases GDP by 2.3 percent per year. But it also found that in the years study that the population grew by 2.5 percent. Meaning GDP per capita went down slightly. The study also found that if the number economic class immigrants was doubled, GDP per capital would go UP, and there would be a general positive effect for everyone in the entire country. Another study performed recently showed that Immigrants are more likely to start businesses and create new jobs. They are also more likely to be sole proprietors. They also have more education than Canadians on average. We also know that Canadas workforce is starting to retire fast. Canads workforce will dramatically shrink just due to demographics. For the first time in our nations history there is more people older than 65 than there is people younger than 15. And not only will the workforce shrink but the pool of seniors the workforce needs to support will grow. Right now there's no conceivable way besides increasing immigration.

We don't need hate speech laws for that. There's already exceptions to freedom of speech for slander and libel. A group of jews should be able to bring a class action suit before the courts, demonstrated damages, and get a cease and desist order, and even compensation for damages, or punitive judgements. And the "truth" is always a defense against slander and libel. We would need to tweak defamation laws in order to allow for this though. The last thing we need is a government bureaucracy to look at the millions of inflammatory statements pretty much every group makes about every other group, and make subject decisions on who should get charged.
-
It should IF that speech had a reasonable chance of causing that action. If I walked up to a random person on the street and said "You should kill all jews", then no. I have no influence over that person, and Im not in a position to incite anything. Same if I screamed "Every life form in the universe must die!". If however I'm speaking to an audience that considers me an authority on "jew killing", then my directive has a chance of being implemented, and it could be considered incitement. It would be extremely rare that I would want to prosecute someone for just saying or thinking something. There would basically have to be a criminal conspiracy under way involving people likely to take that speech seriously and act on the "You should kill all Jews" directive.

Being a member of an organization that the government doesn't like should be legal too. Whether its the KKK, or ISIL. As long as you don't directly violate the criminal code. Thought should never be a crime. Moral support should never be a crime. Membership in an organization should never be a crime (thats guilt by association). Committing a CRIME should be a crime.

Yeah. Same position there. If speech directly encourages or incites violence then I guess something has to be done, but in all other cases no.

26 birth houses identified used by Mainland Chinese.

I didn't, I blamed it on the four major causes that the all the reports and studies found were the main contributors. You are right though that government backed mortgage DO put upwards pressure on housing prices. But super low interest rates put a whole lot more. And the reality is... Federal Reserve Board data show that: * More than 84 percent of the subprime mortgages in 2006 were issued by private lending institutions. * Private firms made nearly 83 percent of the subprime loans to low- and moderate-income borrowers that year. * Only one of the top 25 subprime lenders in 2006 was directly subject to the housing law that’s being lambasted by conservative critics. * Fanny and Freddy actually decreased their exposure to these loans prior to the crisis. They were one of the only rational actors. -

Actually the central banks all did studies on the recession and found that Fanny and Freddy had a negligible impact. The biggest factors were low interest rates, securitization itself, collateralize debt obligations, and crooked ratings agencies. Once that combination was in place a bubble was guaranteed. Banks no longer cared about screening borrowers because they knew they could just collect those fees and get the loans off their books by putting them in a multi tranche MBS, and that would be rated triple AAA by corrupted ratings agencies, and immediately bought up by investors. Private banks were making loans to homeless people... even dogs in some cases. Fanny and Freddy actually how much lower levels of toxic loans than private banks. -

Well, if you consider citizenship valuable you have to ask how a person that happens to squirt out of a Canadian uterus, has done more to earn that value than someone that squirts out of a foreign visitors uterus. Why would you think that person would make a better citizen? In any case immigration policy is driven by population control, which is an important part of managing wage and price stability. This kind of thing should be monitored, and if it becomes necessary the policy should be changed or capped to a quota. -
That's a really cool story bro!... That has nothing to do with question asked in the OP.
-
If hes directly inciting violence it should be a crime. Otherwise no.

The numbers that all these systems are based on is 5 hour peak days. My system IS 760khw per month based on 5 peak hours which IS a bit lower than the average usage in BC. The 900KWH system has 24 panels, so thats up around 400SQF. Still small compared to almost all roofs. And BC is not a likely case for off-grid applications. Grid power is too cheap here and its cloudy too often. It makes more sense in much of the US, and countries like Australia and many more. -

Yes we do... I speced out a system a few pages that that is relatively cheap and already available to consumers today. -

Or ANY lot with ANY yard space. You are right though... installing this kind of situation for apartment or strata dwellers would be a problem. They probably wouldn't even let you. But yeah... Im not claiming its a 100% solution in all cases. But it COULD replace the grid for most suburbs and rural areas, so that you only had to have a small grid for just for city centers, and less central plants. -

http://gens.lccdn.com/generaccorporate/media/library/content/all-products/generators/home-generators/generac-generators_home-backup_emission-warranty-11kw-below.pdf The device I linked to has been inspected and approved by the EPA for use in the US. It meets stringent federal anti smog standards. -

The diesel backup I recommended is quieter than a heat pump (used all over NA). And you could almost eliminate the noise entirely if you put it inside a little insulated structure about the size of a doghouse in the corner of your yard. Mmmmm more like 19% at least for the first few years. In any case that doesn't matter, because the system I speced out works fine with the panels it ships with, and they only need 270 square feet of roof area. -

The average residential utlity customer in the US uses about 800 KWH per month. -

The system I speced out has 18 panels that are 3 foot by 5 foot. It only needs 270 Square Feet of roof. Almost all lowrise homes have 5-10 times the space required. Nope almost all of them do. Even if you lived in a tiny 1000 square foot house, youre roof area is about 1200 and about half of it gets good sun. So even in that tiny house you have twice to space you need. Houses at higher latitudes DO pose a problem, but that problem is almost solved. Black Silicon cells collect more UV, and Ultraviolet energy. They work well in diffused light, and high lattitudes and on cloudy days. Researchers at Finland’s Aalto University have achieved a record-breaking 22.1% efficiency for a nanostructured silicon, or black, solar cell. They accomplished this by overlaying a thin, passivating film on the nanostructures by a process known as atomic layer deposition, and by integrating all of the metal contacts on the cell’s back side. They actually work BETTER in diffused light because solar cells are not as efficient once they get hot.
