  1. Shooting a bullet out of the air is really, really tough. There was a frontline special about the Patriot Missle, the fact that during the first Gulf War, it didn't work. So yeh. It's hard to do. And will require buckets of cash. I think there are more important things ATM.
  2. I bet he's just mad because a NS seasonal worker pays 25 cents into EI and gets a 1.25 out of it -- when they think that if it wasn't for Liberal corruption, they could get 2.25 for every dollar put in. What's really corrupt is how much power the seasonal workers have, and how they extract these insane concessions from the Liberals and Bloc for even more generous and outrageous EI benefits. I agree that the Liberal Party is corrupted. But I also think that the corrupted spirit of the Seasonal Worker is worse. The Chutzpah is striking! (PS. If it wasn't for the seasonal workers demand for unfair EI coverage in the first place, wages wouldn't have fallen to the point where you didn't need EI. It's called "Labour Hoarding". You might want to look it up sometime.)
  3. Most Conservatives I know arn't afraid of saying that they're grumpy Conservatives. Most of the Liberals I know are fairly leary of stating their political preference at the risk of gettind dissed in bars and at a parties. (And yes, I attend quite a few where politics is a topic of conversation). I'm also seeing it at a variety of functions I've been at. People who just get done telling me that they don't trust the Harper-Klein Axis, and that they're leaning Liberal turn around once a Con circulates in and then, promptly keeps their mouths shut about how they're feeling. I think that there is a distinct undercurrent here. I wish I had the data to drill in and find it, but I guess I'll have to wait for the CES, and also get the poll by poll data to compare postal code characteristics with which way the vote went. But yeh. It's just based on what I've read in the past, observed in the data myself, and a lot of anectdotal evidence from the past week.
  4. Asked and Answered. My familiarity with conservative thought makes it that much easier to criticize it. And I know that you're in awe of my awesome wisdom every day August.
  5. Oh the Drama. I can tell you're putting that BFA to good use.
  6. Accountability: Yes. But all the parties suck on this front. Economy: No. It's a non-issue in every region with employment less than 10 percent. Health Care: Yes. Security: No. It's not even on the radar screen. Criminal Law: No. It's not even on the radar screen. The most important issue, at the end of the day, will be accountability and who Canadians fear less: Martin Porking everything in sight. or Duceppe getting Harper to dismantle confederation one piece at a time. Either way, I will never support the party that hops in bed with the Bloc, ever again.
  7. Hi all. I'm takeanumber. I'm not a Liberal, NDP'er, Conservative, Bloc'er or even a Green. So if you're going to attack me instead of my arguement, make sure you attack me on some other personal level...such as my eyecolour or hairstyle. Some have taken to attacking my age. I've come to expect that, so don't think that'll hurt my feelings. Alright: Does anybody here remember that 1993 or 1992 election with Torie PM Major in Great Britain? Does anybody here remember how all the polls screamed Labour Majority, but on polling day, it was a Tory victory? The reason was that many Tory voters were closet Tory voters. I believe that there are many Liberal closet voters. Voters who are too embarassed to admit, in public or to a pollster, that they're going to hold their nose and vote Liberal simply because they can't stomach the alternative: a Bloc-Conservative Alliance, or even a Conservative majority. I don't believe there are as many Conservative closet voters -- for anectdotal reasons only. I won't have the completed CES for quite some time. I also believe that recent comments by Mr. White about s.33 came at the most devastating time, because many Canadians only just started paying attention this past week. I also think that the Conservatives lost a lot of the moral high ground when it came to negative advertising at the most crucial time. Why? The Pedophile charge put them on the same level as with the Liberals. It was pretty crass. I don't think the polls reflect the closet Liberal vote. I don't think the polls reflect the effects that strategic voting will have (which, according to Blais et al in the last election, meant 1 percent less for the PC's and NDP last election. If we apply the same logic to the Greens and NDP this election, the Liberals will pick up an extra 2-3 percent, especially in the ridings where it counts most. In conclusion: 1. I don't think that strategic voting or the closetted Liberal vote will be enough for the Liberals to win a majority. 2. I do think that the polls are underestimating Liberal support by about 4 to 6 percent overall based on past studies and anectdotal evidence. My projection (and I'm NON-PARTISAN, I'm just using what I know of electoral behaviour): Liberals: 38% (+4-6 percent, 2-4 from closet, 2 percent from strategic voting) Cons: 32% (Solid. Won't benefit from strategic voting anywhere, not many closetted ppl.) NDP: 16% (Victim of strategic voting.) Greens: 4% (Victim of strategic voting.) Bloc: 10% (Solid. Won't benefit from strategic voting or closet voters.) Libs might lose the seat count though by 10-15 seats. Regards, Takeanumber.
  8. Nope. I'm not a Liberal. Here you go
  9. If it's a fact, you should have no problem prooving it. Well, go on. You said it was a fact, now prove it. (And make the proof so that I can't find a single counter-example, because if I can find a counter-example, your proof becomes invalid.)

  11. Harper failed. Even yogurt has more culture. Even a plastic monkey has more personality. Even Kerry does less flip-flopping. Anything short of a majority government should be treated as a personal failure and a personal humiliation.
  12. We already know what you think the election should be about Argus. But let's face it, you don't have agenda control. Which is probably a good thing, seeing as how most Canadians don't agree with you.
  13. Adults don't type with Caps Lock on. Go sit in a corner, and when you're ready to come play with the big kids, you can come out.
  14. He's definitely not likable. Same thing with Craig Oliver. And WTF is with the whole journalists interviewing journalists thing? Why should I care what Craig Oliver thinks? Why should I care what Peter Bogue thinks? Enough with the self-indulging tripe?
  15. I'm sure Craig Oliver will be thrilled with a Harper victory. I'm also sure that 'the duff' will be too.
  16. The Economy is good. Can't nail the Libs there. It's about the social issues. Too bad Harper is out of step with: Women, francophones living outside of Quebec, moderate 'l'iberal Canadians, most educated people (that means ppl who have more than a Grade 8 education), homosexuals, and liberal immigrants. In other words: 70% of the population of Canada.
  17. Last time I checked it was a free country for the most part.
  18. What's wrong with being unselfish and saying that everybody deserves the same level of healthcare, regardless of socio-economic background?
  19. Opposite. There are hardcore Lib supporters. They'll show up. (Sadly for you, August, I think the most digusted people won't show up because they don't think that their vote matters.)
  20. Such sweet prose.
  21. He's right. Martin is not Chretien. But I still got a dirty taste in my mouth from my ample student debt, contributed to by Martin. I benefited from the Millenium Scholarships, which was given out by Chretien, not Martin. So, what has Martin done for me lately? Meh. Waffles. But I don't like Waffles much, unless they're those fluffy Dempster's Waffles. Hmmmmm. With real maple syrup. But those have substance. Martin doesn't. So I'm screwed. I don't wanna vote on Monday, but I gotta. So let's review, in my opinion: Liberals: Liars. Pseudo-pro-human rights. Cons: Liars. Anti-basic-human-rights, anti-social-mobility. NDP: Union Liars. Policies will drive up the cost of living, drive down employment, bankrupt Canada. Bunch of kooks. Bloc: No matter what, somebody is gonna be sucking Duceppe's Yule Log. Greens: Looking better, but why I don't just compost my ballot? It would have greater value as fertilizer than one cast for them.
  22. Spin Spin Spin Careful, you'll get too dizzy and up chuck.
  23. The South Koreans got North Korea breathing down their necks. Worse, most Americans see the violent protests of South Koreans against the US, and that has damaged support for keeping those troops there. So, yeh. It's sad that he got beheaded. But I must admit, we can't blink in the face of that kind of terror. Because then, where would it end. Would they demand the end of democracy in the US, or they'll cut off so and so's head? Would they demand the nuclear bombing of Israel, or they'll cut off so and so's head? Would the demand the mass conversion of the free West to repressive Islam, or they'll cut off some woman's head? It doesn't end with them. The fundamental conflict here is that the West wants to continue to exist, and those extremist muslims oppose the West's ongoing existance.
